Isolated sign language recognition through integrating pose data and motion history images.

This article presents an innovative approach for the task of isolated sign language recognition (SLR); this approach centers on the integration of pose data with motion history images (MHIs) derived from these data. Our research combines spatial information obtained from body, hand, and face poses with the comprehensive details provided by three-channel MHI data concerning the temporal dynamics of the sign. Particularly, our developed finger pose-based MHI (FP-MHI) feature significantly enhances the recognition success, capturing the nuances of finger movements and gestures, unlike existing approaches in SLR.

Evaluation of the aquaporin molecules characterization in the sperm cells of men from different aged.

Background/aim: Male infertility rises for many reasons, along with age; therefore, we aimed to research the characterization of aquaporin-3, 7, and 8 in human sperm belonging to different age groups.

Material And Methods: This study was conducted on sperm samples of men aged over 18 years. A total of 60 men were included in the study and divided into three age groups: group 1, age 18-25 years (n = 20); group 2, age 26-35 years (n = 20); and group 3, age ≥35 years (n = 20).

Postintensive care syndrome: Development and psychometric validation of a knowledge test.

Introduction: Postintensive care syndrome (PICS) is a combination of short-, medium- and long-term morbidities that occur in patients discharged from the Intensive care unit (ICU). ICU professionals have a crucial role in managing and understanding the PICS. This study aimed to develop the PICS Knowledge Test (PICS-KT), which measures ICU professionals' awareness and knowledge levels regarding PICS, and to determine its validity and reliability.

Lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio as a new biomarker for predicting mortality and morbidity in Fournier's gangrene.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to research the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio (LCR), and Fournier's Gangrene Severity Index (FGSI) for predicting prognosis and mortality in patients with Fournier's gangrene (FG).

Material And Methods: Patients diagnosed with FG and treated in a tertiary referral hospital in the period from January 2013 to June 2020 were reviewed. LCR, FGSI, and NLR values were calculated.

Introduction/aim: Turkey has experienced a heavy migration burden in recent years due to its location and benevolent policies. This study aimed to retrospectively examine and discuss the reports prepared for foreign nationals who requested assistance at the Forensic Medicine Department of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital in Tokat, which is located in the Middle Black Sea Region of Turkey, between 2014 and 2022.

Materials And Methods: This study retrospectively evaluated reports prepared between 2014 and 2022 in the outpatient clinics of Forensic Medicine at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital.

Assessment of serum granulysin and cathepsin-L levels in vitiligo patients.

Objective: Cellular and humoral immunity plays a role in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. T lymphocytes and natural killer cells involved in cellular immunity carry out their cytotoxic activities through perforin/granzyme-dependent granule exocytosis, in which granulysin and cathepsin-L are also involved. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible role of serum granulysin and cathepsin-L in the etiopathogenesis of vitiligo and their association with disease activity and severity.

Vascular endothelial growth factor I/D variant and postmenopausal osteoporosis risk in the Turkish population.

Introduction: Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is a common metabolic bone disorder manifested by low bone mineral density and increased fracture risks in postmenopausal women. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been shown to play an important role in bone formation. In this study, we investigated the potential association between the VEGF insertion/deletion (I/D) variant (rs35569394) and PMOP in a cohort of postmenopausal Turkish women.

Handmade Loop Versus Hem-o-Lok Clip in Closure of Appendiceal Stump During Laparoscopic Appendectomy: Limited Setting in a Peripheral University Hospital.

Today, laparoscopy is frequently used in abdominal emergencies such as acute appendicitis. There are several techniques used to close the appendiceal stump during laparoscopic appendectomy. Potential Impact of Climate Change-Induced Alterations on Pyroptotic Cell Death in Animal Cells: A Review.

Climate change-induced alterations in temperature variation, ozone exposure, water salinity and acidification, and hypoxia might influence immunity and thus survival in diverse groups of animals from fish to mammals. Pyroptosis is a type of lytic pro-inflammatory programmed cell death, which participates in the innate immune response, and is involved in multiple diseases characterized by inflammation and cell death, mostly studied in human cells. Diverse extrinsic factors can induce pyroptosis, leading to the extracellular release of pro-inflammatory molecules such as IL-18.

Background: Drug combination studies help to improve new treatment approaches for colon cancer. Tumor spheroids (3D) are better models than traditional 2-dimensional cultures (2D) to evaluate cellular responses to chemotherapy drugs. The cultivation of cancer cells in 2D and 3D cultures affects the apoptotic process, which is a major factor influencing the response of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic drugs.

Effectiveness of Psychosocial Skills Training and Community Mental Health Services: A Qualitative Research.

This study employs a phenomenological approach to investigate the experiences of individuals who access services at a community mental health center (CHMC) in Türkiye The aim of this study is to comprehend the experiences of individuals who participate in psychosocial skills training at the CHMC. Thematic analysis of data from sixteen in-depth interviews revealed three main themes and eight sub-themes. Functionality theme emphasizes the positive impact of CHMC services and training on daily life and social functioning.
