Introduction: Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and lymph node metastasis (LNM) presence are poor prognostic factors that have importance for cancer patients. The study objective was to determine whether hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and prominin-1 (CD133) in pleural fluid (P) and serum (S) could be used as biomarkers for diagnosis of lymph node involvement in patients with MPE.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-six patients with MPE and 30 healthy control subjects were included.

Young people have to cope with many negative life events and stress factors to maintain their happiness. Although there are studies on how they benefit from different coping strategies and their results, there is no study that profiles/groups young people according to negative life events and coping styles. From this point of view, the study aims to determine different life events classes and stress coping profiles in young people, and to examine the differences in happiness among the new groups created according to the discovered classes and profiles.

In this work, we developed a new copper(II)-selective potentiometric sensor and investigated its surface with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Besides the surface images of the sensors conditioned in copper(II) solutions, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and mapping studies were carried out. According to the results obtained, it was determined that copper(II) ions adhered to the porous areas on the sensor surface, and that Cu ions showed a wide distribution on the sensor surface in mapping studies.

The most important complication of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is secondary amyloidosis. The aim of this study is to investigate the risk of developing FMF-related amyloidosis with macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), interleukin 4 (IL-4), and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) variants. This study included 62 FMF patients with amyloidosis, 110 FMF patients without amyloidosis, and 120 controls.

The differentiation of antemortem and postmortem fractures is a challenging and important issue in forensic medicine. To investigate the usability of chemical element levels in blunt fracture ends for the differentiation of antemortem and postmortem fractures, antemortem and postmortem fractures were created in rats and left to decay in the natural environment. Forty-eight rats were used in this study.

Determining the antioxidant abilities and enzyme inhibition profiles of medicinally important plants and their oils is of great importance for a healthy life and the treatment of some common global diseases. Kiwifruit () oil was examined and researched using several bioanalytical methods comprehensively for the first time in this research to determine its antioxidant, antiglaucoma, antidiabetic and anti-Alzheimer's capabilities. Additionally, the kiwifruit oil inhibitory effects on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), carbonic anhydrase II (CA II), and α-amylase, which are linked to a number of metabolic illnesses, were established.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder marked by hyperglycemia, caused by impaired insulin secretion and activity. Chronic inflammation holds a significant role in the development, progression, and complications of DM and obesity. There are publications reporting that the monocyte/ high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-C ratio (MHR) and plasma atherogenic index (PAI) could be used as indicators of systemic inflammation.

Sarcoid-like granulomatous inflammation (SLGI) is defined as the development of non-necrotizing epithelioid granulomas in patients who do not meet the criteria for systemic sarcoidosis. Its occurrence is known to be linked to diverse conditions, including malignancies, infections, the use of certain drugs and inorganic substances. To the best of our knowledge, the available literature to date lacks any description regarding SLGI in a paraganglioma.

Objectives: Despite the presumed overdiagnosis of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) which has resulted in a new trend toward less-extensive surgery and a preference for active surveillance, the impact of microscopic extrathyroidal extension (mETE) on the clinical outcomes of PTMC is still controversial. This study assessed the impact of mETE on the clinical outcomes of patients with classic subtype PTMC.
Methods: The data of consecutive patients who underwent thyroidectomy and were histopathologically diagnosed as classic subtype PTMC were analyzed.

Background: Pharmacological treatment is the primary approach in chronic migraine (CM), although non-drug interventions such as physical therapy are used as adjunct treatments. We aimed to review the efficacy of physical therapy and rehabilitation approaches for CM and their impact on quality of life (QoL) and disability.
Methods: This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in adults with CM.

Recurrent oronasal fistula closure is a challenging phenomenon that has been managed with many surgical or flap techniques, such as local, regional, and distant flaps, with various modifications. Despite these options, the ideal method to repair this kind of chronic fistula has not yet been established. It is difficult to repair because recurrent surgical repairs or interventions cause this region to become more fibrotic with less vascular tissue, which considerably reduces the likelihood of closing this kind of fistula.

This paper proposes a tuning method based on the Pythagorean fuzzy similarity measure and multi-criteria decision-making to determine the most suitable controller parameters for Fractional-order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID) and Integer-order Proportional Integral-Proportional Derivative (PI-PD) controllers. Due to the power of the Pythagorean fuzzy approach to evaluate a phenomenon with two memberships known as membership and non-membership, a multi-objective cost function based on the Pythagorean similarity measure is defined. The transient and steady-state properties of the system output were used for the multi-objective cost function.

In Alzheimer's disease, which is characterized by amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain tissue, many components such as acute phase proteins, cytokines, and proteases contribute to the progression of the disease or are part of the pathological process. The macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) gene encodes a cytokine, which is secreted by lymphocytes, and has a role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune/inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The purpose of this study to investigate the association between Alzheimer disease and MIF gene promoter polymorphisms.
