Many studies published recently have shown that many cytokines (interleukin (IL) IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, TNF and IFN-) are significantly increased in COVID-19 patients with pneumonia, and especially IL-6 in combination with other cytokines has shown to be the main cause of the cytokine storm. Since IL-6 level is associated with clinical worsening in COVID-19 patients, anti-IL-6 therapy is seen as a promising treatment.
