Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the relationship between hypothyroidism and oxidative stress markers in women, specifically assessing conditions like Hashimoto's thyroiditis and nonautoimmune hypothyroidism after treatment with levothyroxine.
  • A total of 116 women participated, with findings showing that both hypothyroid groups exhibited lower levels of important antioxidant compounds compared to healthy controls, indicating a shift towards oxidative stress.
  • Despite treatment with levothyroxine, the hypothyroid groups did not show significant improvement in oxidative stress marker levels, suggesting that the treatment may not effectively address the oxidative stress associated with these conditions.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols challenge the conventional and rigid methods of surgery and anesthesia and bring about novel changes that are quite drastic. The core principle of the protocol is to minimize the metabolic disturbance caused by surgical injury, facilitate the restoration of functions in a brief period, and promote the resumption of normal activity at the earliest. To compare the outcomes of ERAS and standard protocol for patients who have undergone radical cystectomy (RC) with ileal conduit urinary diversion.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) guided by ultrasonography is routinely used to identify thyroid nodules prior to surgery. Although FNAB has great diagnostic accuracy and safety, it is limited by its relatively low diagnostic accuracy in follicular lesions, such as non-diagnostic or atypia of unclear significance (AUS)/follicular lesion of uncertain significance (FLUS). Additional diagnostic tests are required to overcome these challenges in evaluating thyroid nodules.
