Turkish Society of Gastroenterology: Pancreas Working Group, Acute Pancreatitis Committee Consensus Report.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinical condition that arises acutely in the pancreas through various inflammatory pathways due to multiple causes. Turkish Society of Gastroenterology Pancreas Working Group developed comprehensive guidance statements regarding the management of AP that include its epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, disease severity, treatment, prognosis, local and systemic complications. The statements were developed through literature review, deliberation, and consensus opinion.

The effect of ocular dominance on choroidal structures.

This study aimed to compare the dominant and non-dominant eyes of healthy individuals in terms of CT and CVI values to assess the effect of ocular dominance on choroidal morphology. Three hundred eyes of 150 individuals were included in this study. All patients underwent routine ophthalmological examinations and hole-in-the-card tests to determine the dominant eye.

The effect of examining somatic alterations with NGS in patients with solid tumors, on patient management: A single-center experience in Turkey.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of analyzing somatic alterations using next-generation sequencing (NGS) on treatment management in patients with metastatic solid cancers and their ability to access NGS recommended treatments.

Methods: This retrospective study included eligible patients who underwent NGS on somatic tumor tissue. We examined the clinical and pathological characteristics of these patients and the alterations in their treatment following NGS results.

Cytokine expression profiles in children and adolescents with tic disorders.

The etiology of tic disorders (TDs) is not precisely known, although several lines of evidence suggest involvement of the immune system in pathogenesis. Here, we aimed to determine the expression levels of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in children with TD and compare them with those of healthy controls. Furthermore, we also evaluated their association with clinical variables in the TD group.

Simultaneous Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty and Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty for Corneal Endothelial Failure With Stromal Scarring.

We present an alternative surgical procedure including simultaneous deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) in a case with endothelial failure and stromal scarring. A 62-year-old woman presented with vision loss caused by pseudophakic bullous keratopathy. While waiting for a corneal transplant, the patient developed infectious keratitis, which was treated with medication.

We evaluated the short- and long-term effects of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) on their cardiovascular system. The study population consisted of 38 MIS-C patients and 55 control patients. Standard echocardiographic measurements and aortic stiffness parameters were compared between the two groups at different time points.

COVID-19 disease in children and adolescents following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A report from the Turkish pediatric bone marrow transplantation study group.

Background: Data on the risk factors and outcomes for pediatric patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19) following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are limited.

Objectives: The study aimed to analyze the clinical signs, risk factors, and outcomes for ICU admission and mortality in a large pediatric cohort who underwent allogeneic HSCT prior to COVID-19 infection.

Method: In this nationwide study, we retrospectively reviewed the data of 184 pediatric HSCT recipients who had COVID-19 between March 2020 and August 2022.

The Effectiveness of Adjuvant PD-1 Inhibitors in Patients With Surgically Resected Stage III/IV Acral Melanoma.

Our aim was to assess the efficacy of adjuvant programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors and compare the other adjuvant treatments in patients with surgically resected stage III or IV acral melanoma. This study is a multicenter, retrospective analysis. We included 114 patients with stage III or IV acral malignant melanoma who underwent surgery within the past 10 years.

Objective: To evaluate the predictive potential of the maximum standardized uptake value(SUVmax) value of intraprostatic tumors derived from preoperative 68Ga-PSMA-I&T PET/CT (SUVT), and its ratios to SUVmax in the liver (SUVTLR) and parotid gland (SUVTPR) with respect to histopathological findings.

Materials And Methods: Data from patients who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer (PC) at our clinic between 2017 and 2020 were assessed. Patients with a secondary malignancy, a history of transurethral prostate resection, prior treatment for PC, or who received salvage RP were excluded.

Purpose: To evaluate the quality of available information on Youtube videos about VNS as a "source of health information" for patients with drug resistant epilepsy.

Methods: Youtube videos were searched and screened using the terms "VNS for seizures," and "VNS surgery," "VNS epilepsy" in May 2023. The quality of the videos was evaluated the Quality Criteria for Consumer Health Information (DISCERN) and Global Quality Scale (GQS).

A Modification of the Intraocular Lens Blocking Technique Without Posterior Capsulorhexis for Intraocular Foreign Body Removal.

Purpose: The intraocular lens blocking technique described for the removal of intraocular foreign bodies emerged as a result of an effort to prevent the foreign body from being retracted into the posterior segment because of the resistance encountered while removing it from the corneal incision. However, in the technique described, in addition to the difficulty of the surgical procedure, the new concern is to create a posterior capsulorhexis according to the size of the foreign body and to pass the foreign body through the capsulorhexis.
