This study evaluated acrylamide (AA) levels and various quality parameters in homemade fried potatoes prepared in different sizes by integrating principles from the Slow Food Movement with advanced sensor technology. To this aim, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was first developed for the determination of AA in homemade fried potatoes at low levels, and the AA levels in the samples were established. First of all, monolayer formation of allyl mercaptane on the SPR chip surface was carried out to form double bonds that could polymerize on the chip surface.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how the difference in eye pressure between a damaged eye and a healthy eye can predict problems after eye surgery.
  • They examined 538 patients with a serious eye condition called retinal detachment and separated them into two groups based on whether they had issues with eye pressure after surgery.
  • The results showed that a bigger difference in pressure between the eyes meant a higher chance of having low eye pressure after surgery, which could cause vision problems.

Article Synopsis
  • Signet-ring cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is often diagnosed late due to its rarity and potential to occur secondary to other cancers, complicating management and treatment.
  • A 37-year-old woman experienced unusual vaginal bleeding, leading to the discovery of a cervical mass diagnosed as primary cervical signet-ring cell carcinoma after extensive evaluations; she underwent radical surgery and is disease-free two years later.
  • Accurate diagnosis requires imaging and immunohistochemical studies, but due to limited cases, there's no established treatment protocol, highlighting the importance of increased awareness for early detection and management.

This radiologic work aimed to display the alteration in the superior orbital fissure (SOF) morphology in the pediatric population with advancing age. This pediatric examination consisted of computed tomography images of 180 subjects (90 males/90 females) aged 1-18 years. The length (SOF-L) and width (SOF-W) of SOF were measured, and its shape was noted.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • FLVCR1 is a protein involved in transporting essential compounds like heme and choline, with mutations linked to serious developmental disorders and neurodegenerative conditions in humans.
  • Researchers identified 30 patients with biallelic FLVCR1 variants who displayed severe developmental issues, including brain malformations and other complications, paralleling symptoms seen in mouse models and conditions like Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA).
  • The findings emphasize that FLVCR1 variants could cause a wide range of health problems, underscoring the need for diverse genetic testing and consideration of animal model data in understanding human genetic disorders.

Investigation of Nrf2-Keap-1 pathway, Sestrin 2 and oxidative stress markers in serum of patients with placenta Accreata spectrum.

Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol

November 2024

Department of Medical Biochemistry, Medical School, Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) refers to a serious condition where the placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall, leading to complications like heavy bleeding and the need for hysterectomies, especially as cesarean rates rise.
  • This study focused on the Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway in PAS patients, measuring various biomarkers related to oxidative stress and antioxidant activity using the ELISA method.
  • The findings indicate significant differences in levels of Nrf2, Keap1, and related markers between PAS patients and a control group, suggesting that the pathway is disrupted in PAS and may help assess the severity of the condition.

This Letter presents the first study of the energy dependence of diboson polarization fractions in WZ→ℓνℓ^{'}ℓ^{'}(ℓ,ℓ^{'}=e,μ) production. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.
