The impact of cold application on pain and comfort during the process of diabetic foot care.

Background And Aim: Given the significance of pain management in the context of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) care, particularly in terms of ensuring patient adherence to treatment regimens, this study was undertaken to ascertain the impact of cold washing on pain and comfort levels during diabetic foot care.

Methods: A single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in the chronic wound care clinic of a teaching and research hospital in the southeastern region of Turkey. The sample consisted of 68 patients, with 34 assigned to the cold application group and 34 assigned to the control group.

Background: The Rome IV criteria offer symptom-based recommendations for diagnosing functional gastrointestinal diseases (FGID) in children and adolescents without esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of Rome IV criteria for ruling out organic disease in patients with and without alarm symptoms.

Background: Gene polymorphisms of rearranged during transfection (RET) and its ligand neurturin (NRTN) are one of the focus of studies in the investigation of cancer pathogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. In this study, we aimed to examine the possible risk of breast cancer between RET G691S, L769L, S904S, and NRTN IVSI-663 polymorphisms and to evaluate serum NRTN, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) levels.

Atraumatic forceps-guided insertion of the cervical pessary: a new technique to prevent preterm birth in women with asymptomatic cervical shortening.

Objectives: As previous studies on the use of a cervical pessary to prevent preterm birth (PTB) have produced conflicting results, we aimed to investigate the feasibility, acceptability and safety of a new technique for inserting a cervical pessary and compare it with the traditional technique in patients at high risk of PTB.

Methods: Women at high risk of PTB treated with a cervical pessary between January 2018 and January 2021 were retrospectively evaluated. After applying exclusion criteria, a total of 68 eligible patients were identified and retrospectively analyzed.

One such exercise, the lawn-mower (LM) exercise, is frequently used in scapular rehabilitation protocols due to its multijoint, multiplanar, and kinetic chain-based nature. Design/Objective: This study aimed to compare trapezius muscle activation levels and ratios during the LM exercise in standing and quadruped positions through a randomized controlled trial.

Inhibitor development upon switching from plasma-derived to recombinant factor VIII in previously untreated patients with severe hemophilia A: the PUP-SWITCH study.

Background: The SIPPET randomized clinical trial showed that in previously untreated patients (PUPs) with severe hemophilia A, treatment with plasma-derived factor (F)VIII (pdFVIII) within the first 50 exposure days (EDs) was associated with a lower cumulative incidence of inhibitors than with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII). Switching to rFVIII beyond 50 EDs with pdFVIII is a treatment often implemented by many centers. The question is whether or not this switch may induce a risk of inhibitor development.

Attitudes toward and exposure to gender discrimination in work life by pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons: a questionnaire-based survey among Turkish thoracic society members.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate attitudes toward and exposure to gender discrimination in work life by chest diseases specialists and thoracic surgeons.

Methods: A total of 275 members of Turkish Thoracic Society (TTS) were included on a voluntary basis in this online cross-sectional questionnaire-survey using an internal member-only social media platform of TTS. The questionnaire form elicited items on sociodemographic characteristics, occupational characteristics and gender discrimination in work life (general opinions, attitudes and exposure).
