Acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by ischemia and, exogenous or endogenous nephrotoxic agents poses a serious health issue. AKI is seen in 1% of all hospital admissions, 2-5% of hospitalizations and 67% of intensive care unit (ICU) patients. The in-hospital mortality rates for AKI is 40-50, and >50% for ICU patients.

Objective: There is a need for sensitive biomarkers in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), to enable earlier diagnosis and to help assess potential treatments. The main objective of this study was to compare two potential biomarkers, threshold-tracking short-interval cortical inhibition (T-SICI), which has shown promise as a diagnostic aid, and neurofilament light chains (NfL).
Methods: Ninety-seven patients with ALS (mean age 67.

The European Society of Cardiology issued updated syncope guidelines in 2018 which included recommendations for managing syncope in the emergency department (ED) setting. However, these guidelines lack detailed process-oriented instructions regarding the fact that ED syncope patients initially present with a transient loss of consciousness (TLOC), which can have a broad spectrum of causes. This study aims to establish a European consensus on the general process of the workup and care for patients with suspected syncope and provides rules for sufficient and systematic management of the broad group of syncope (initially presenting as TLOC) patients in the ED.

Introduction: Ultrasound elastography (US-E) is a novel, tissue stiffness-sensitive imaging method. We aimed to investigate whether lung ultrasound (US) and US-E can play a role in diagnosing interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) in which lung elasticity is affected due to fibrosis.
Materials And Methods: A prospective cohort study.
Purpose: To compare the oncological outcomes of clear cell RCC (ccRCC), which is common in renal cell carcinomas (RCC), and chromophobic RCC (chRCC), which is less common, and to define the factors affecting survival in the Turkish patient population for both RCC subclassifications.
Materials And Methods: Patients with a pathologically confirmed RCC diagnosis after radical or partial nephrectomy in the Turkish Urooncology Association (TUOA), Urological Cancers Database-Kidney (UroCaD-K), were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with ccRCC and chRCC were included in the study.

Introduction: Technical advances and the increasing role of interdisciplinary decision-making may warrant formal definitions of expertise in surgical neuro-oncology.
Research Question: The EANS Neuro-oncology Section felt that a survey detailing the European neurosurgical perspective on the concept of expertise in surgical neuro-oncology might be helpful.
Material And Methods: The EANS Neuro-oncology Section panel developed an online survey asking questions regarding criteria for expertise in neuro-oncological surgery and sent it to all individual EANS members.

Objective: Pancreatic surgeries inherently cause ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury, affecting not only the pancreas but also distant organs. This study was conducted to explore the potential use of dexmedetomidine, a sedative with antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, in mitigating the impacts of pancreatic IR on kidney and liver tissues.
Methods: A total of 24 rats were randomly divided into four groups: control (C), dexmedetomidine (D), ischemia reperfusion (IR), and dexmedetomidine ischemia reperfusion (D-IR).

Objective: Caffeine and modafinil are used to reverse effects of sleep deprivation. Nicotinic alpha-7 receptor and AMPA receptor positive allosteric modulators (PAM) are also potential substances in this context. Our objective is to evaluate the effects of caffeine, modafinil, AVL-3288 (nicotinic alpha-7 PAM) and CX516 (AMPA receptor PAM) on cognition and mood in a model of sleep deprivation.

Thymic tumors are very rare neoplasms in children and account for less than 1% of mediastinal tumors in pediatric patients. One-third of the pediatric patients present with symptoms related to the compression of the tumor mass on the surrounding anatomic structures, and paraneoplastic syndromes such as myasthenia gravis, pure red cell aplasia, acquired hypogammaglobulinemia, and connective tissue disorders, which rarely occur in children with thymic tumors. Herein, we report a case of thymic carcinoma mimicking the symptoms of a connective tissue disease with symmetrical polyarthritis accompanying myositis, fever, weight loss, and malaise in a 15-year-old male patient.

Kidney transplantation (KT) is the best option for patients with end-stage renal disease, but recipients still have legacy bone mineral disease from the pretransplant period, especially patients with severe secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT). Patients who had severe sHPT and underwent KT were analyzed retrospectively. Two groups were identified (patients with severe sHPT who had parathyroidectomy or calcimimetic before KT).
