[Mortality prediction ability of phycians in intensive care units of Turkey (MOPAP)].

Introduction: Intensive care physicians are increasingly involved in decision making about the prognosis of intensive care unit ICU patients. With this study; we aimed to evaluate the power of clinician foresight at prediction of mortality in patient at triage to intensive care and patient follow-up.

Materials And Methods: This study was conducted in ICUs located in various geographical regions of Turkey between January 1, 2017-April 30, 2017.

Carotid intima-media thickness in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and survival: A multicenter prospective study.

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a noninvasive method assessing atherosclerosis.

Objective: It was aimed to determine relationship and survival between COPD and CIMT.

C-Reactive Protein and Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratio as Potential Tumor Markers in Low-Alpha-Fetoprotein Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

The hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor marker alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is only elevated in about half of the HCC patients, limiting its usefulness in following the effects of therapy or screening. New markers are needed. It has been previously noted that the inflammation markers C-reactive protein (CRP) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are prognostically important and may reflect HCC aggressiveness.

Ureterorenoscopy with stenting and its effect on male sexual function: A controlled randomised prospective study.

Seventy-two male patients, who were included in this study, underwent ureteroscopic stone surgery (study group). Forty-two healthy males were enrolled as control group. Changes in sexual function were evaluated using International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire in pre-operative, first and third postoperative terms.

Investigation of Helicobacter pylori antigen in stool samples of patients with upper gastrointestinal complaints.

Helicobacter pylori infection is usually acquired in early childhood and it can persist throughout life without antibiotic treatment. This study aimed to compare the accuracy of the noninvasive H. pylori Stool Antigen Test-applied on the stool samples with the invasive gold standart Rapid Urease Test-applied on the gastric biopy samples of patients with upper gastrointestinal complaints.

Smoking and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.

Purpose: Pharmacologic effects of nicotine are multifaceted and complicated. Despite numerous studies, the effect of smoking on lower urinary tract functions, have not been yet studied in detail. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of smoking addiction on lower urinary tract and sexual functions on the basis of respiratory functions.

Phenylthiocarbamide taste perception as a possible genetic association marker for nutritional habits and obesity tendency of people.

Ability to taste Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) a bitter molecule, is usually used to know the heritable characteristic in both genetic and physiological studies. So far, no research has yet attested whether PTC blindness relation with obesity and some nutrition behaviors of human. This study is the first attempt on a large scale to examine PTC sensitivity in healthy and overweight people in Turkish population to define in the perception of bitter senses which is associated with nutrition habits, body mass index, age, gender, and to be in stable weight.

Intracellular levels of Na(+) and TTX-sensitive Na(+) channel current in diabetic rat ventricular cardiomyocytes.

Intracellular Na(+) ([Na(+)](i)) is an important modulator of excitation-contraction coupling via regulating Ca(2+) efflux/influx, and no investigation has been so far performed in diabetic rat heart. Here, we examined whether any change of [Na(+)](i) in paced cardiomyocytes could contribute to functional alterations during diabetes. Slowing down in depolarization phase of the action potential, small but significant decrease in its amplitude with a slight depolarized resting membrane potential was traced in live cardiomyocytes from diabetic rat, being parallel with a decreased TTX-sensitive Na(+) channel current (I(Na)) density.

The informed consent status for surgery patients in eastern Turkey: a cross-sectional study.

This study assesses the quality of the informed consent process and satisfaction with the informed consent process, for surgery patients in Turkey. Four hundred and eighty three patients were interviewed after their surgeries. More than half of the patients were satisfied with the information on eight issues that pertained to the informed consent process.

First description of the disease by Conidiobolus osmodes on Tipula paludosa larvae with the report of a natural epizootic.

A new fungal pathogen of Tipula paludosa (Tipulidae: Diptera) larvae, Conidiobolus osmodes (Ancylistaceae: Entomophthorales), was found during a survey of tipulid larval pathogens in Northumbria and Cumbria in England in 1997-1999. The fungus caused an epizootic in a population at Close House during autumn 1999 and spring 2000 with prevalence rising fourfold reaching about 40% in April 2000. The disease development was presented and the fungus was described from naturally infected larvae and artificial cultures.
