Background: This study aimed to identify the resilience and burnout status of nurses working in the field of oncology.

Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 140 oncology nurses. The data were collected using a socio-demographic attributes form, Resilience Scale for Adults, and the Maslach's Burnout Inventory.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 3 first-line chemotherapy combination regimens for HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer (mBC).

Patients And Methods: In this open-label, 3-arm, randomized phase II trial, patients were randomized to all-oral NORCAP (vinorelbine/capecitabine), GEMPAC (gemcitabine/paclitaxel), or GEMDOC (gemcitabine/docetaxel) as first-line chemotherapy for HER2-negative mBC. Stratification factors were center, previous (neo)adjuvant anthracycline, and age.

Clinical Results of Meniscal Repair Using Submeniscal Horizontal Sutures.

Background: Parts of the implants placed over the meniscus during meniscal repair can wear down the cartilage in the contact zones and cause chronic synovitis. Placing horizontal sutures under the meniscus may overcome this potential hazard. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the midterm results of arthroscopic meniscal repair using submeniscally placed out-in horizontal sutures.

Apical traction: a novel visual echocardiographic parameter to predict survival in patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Aims: In some pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients, we noted a motion pattern where the right ventricular (RV) apex is pulled towards to left ventricle (LV) during systole, caused by traction from the LV ('apical traction', AT). Herein, we characterize patients with AT to investigate its prognostic significance.

Methods And Results: Echocardiograms of 62 pre-capillary PH patients (42 females, age 61 ± 15 years) were retrospectively analysed.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearances of primary amelanotic malign melanoma in the nasal cavity: a rare case.

Malign melanoma of the nasal cavity that arises at such an unusual location is an exceptional case only occasionally mentioned in the literature. An amelanotic form, which is an uncommon type for this malignancy, also has an unusual radiological appearence from the classic melanotic form. We report here the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of a 46-year-old man who had a nasal cavity mass diagnosed as an amelanotic malign melanoma and discuss the importance of differential diagnosis with such an unusual radiological manifestation in this location.

Unilateral right pulmonary agenesis in adulthood.

Congenital malformations of the lung, which may vary in degrees of severity, are very rare diseases. Pulmonary artery agenesis is a rare anomaly that may occur during the early involution of the proximal portions of the sixth aortic arch, during embryological development of the heart. This agenesis may be accompained by a complete or partial absence of the lung and its bronchus on the same side, which is diagnosed as pulmonary agenesis.

Ketamine is toxic to chondrocyte cell cultures.

Ketamine has been used in combination with a variety of other agents for intra-articular analgesia, with promising results. However, although it has been shown to be toxic to various types of cell, there is no available information on the effects of ketamine on chondrocytes. We conducted a prospective randomised controlled study to evaluate the effects of ketamine on cultured chondrocytes isolated from rat articular cartilage.

Effects of topical intranasal doxycycline treatment in the rat allergic rhinitis model.

Objectives: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic upper respiratory tract disease that inflames the mucous membranes of the nose and occurs when circulating inflammatory cells including eosinophils and basophils migrate to and accumulate in the inflammation area by passing through the interstitium and capillary walls. To pass through these barriers, the inflammatory cells degrade extracellular matrix proteins. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) released by inflammatory cells mediate the degradation of these proteins.

Migration of intrauterine devices with radiological findings: report on two cases.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are one of the most reliable and cheapest contraception methods. Our aims are to evaluate misplaced IUDs with radiological findings and to emphasise the importance of radiological imaging. We report two cases with radiological findings, one of complete migration to the abdomen without colonic perforation and one of partial migration to the bladder lumen with pregnancy.

Saphenous vein wrapping for the treatment of a perigraft seroma: report of a case.

A 61-year-old man who had undergone an iliofemoral bypass with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft was readmitted to our hospital for the investigation and treatment of a possible complication of the surgery. A tender, pulsatile, bulging mass, about the size of an adult fist, was palpated around the left lower abdominal region. Diagnostic procedures showed a large low-density area around the PTFE graft and angiography revealed a patent graft with no anastomotic leakage.

Unsuccessful probing and nasolacrimal canal agenesis in congenital epiphora.

Purpose: To present 3 cases with nasolacrimal canal agenesis who underwent repetitive unsuccessful probing for treatment of congenital epiphora.

Materials And Methods: Three patients who had undergone topical antibiotic therapy, lacrimal sac massage and repetitive probing in Ondokuz Mayis University, Medical School, Ophthalmology Department between June 2006 and March 2007 were included in the study. Thin-section computerized tomography (CT) scan was performed in all cases since nasolacrimal duct could not be detected during repetitive probing.

Factors that effect sputum culture conversion rate in hospitalized patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who were applied directly observation therapy and non-directly observation therapy.

Directly observation therapy (DOT) has been accepted as the basic method for controlling tuberculosis. The present study aimed to determine the risk factors that affect sputum culture conversion rate in the DOT managed and non-DOT managed hospitalized patients. The study was included 50 cases with positive sputum cultures between the dates April 2001-April 2002 when DOT was not applied and 60 cases between the dates May 2002-May 2003 when DOT was applied.

Comparison of two different laparoscopic hysterectomies: laparoscopic hysterectomy vs. total laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Although sildenafil and vardenafil are widely used, there is a high percentage of people who do not respond to these drugs. This study was performed in order to evaluate the efficacy of the lastly presented phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor, tadalafil, in nonresponder group of patients to sildenafil and vardenafil.
