Mutant huntingtin, which causes Huntington's disease (HD), is ubiquitously expressed but induces preferential loss of striatal neurons by unclear mechanisms. Rab11 dysfunction mediates homeostatic disturbance of HD neurons. Here, we report that Rab11 dysfunction also underscores the striatal vulnerability in HD.

The brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) is the most prevalent tick in the world and a well-recognized vector of many pathogens affecting dogs and occasionally humans. Pathogens exploit tick salivary molecules for their survival and multiplication in the vector and transmission to and establishment in the hosts. Tick saliva contains various non-proteinaceous substances and secreted proteins that are differentially produced during feeding and comprise of inhibitors of blood congealing and platelet aggregation, vasodilatory and immunomodulatory substances, and compounds preventing itch and pain.

Purpose: To understand the actual impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and frame the future strategies, we conducted a pan India survey to study the impact on the surgical management of gastrointestinal cancers.
Methods: A national multicentre survey in the form of a questionnaire from 16 tertiary care gastrointestinal oncology centres across India was conducted from January 2019 to June 2021 that was divided into a 15-month pre-Covid era and a similar period of active Covid pandemic era.
Results: There was significant disruption of services; 13 (81%) centres worked as dedicated Covid care centres and 43% reported suspension of essential care for more than 6 months.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a severe neurodegenerative disorder of the brain that manifests as dementia, disorientation, difficulty in speech, and progressive cognitive and behavioral impairment. The emerging therapeutic approach to AD management is the inhibition of β-site APP cleaving enzyme-1 (BACE1), known to be one of the two aspartyl proteases that cleave β-amyloid precursor protein (APP). Studies confirmed the association of high BACE1 activity with the proficiency in the formation of β-amyloid-containing neurotic plaques, the characteristics of AD.

Purpose: Influenza virus can cause serious respiratory illness sometimes resulting in epidemics and pandemics associated with significant morbidity and mortality across the globe. Hence, continuous surveillance of the activity of the influenza virus and its subtypes is necessary to help the policy makers to take effective and appropriate decisions regarding its control. The study aimed to determine distribution of influenza viruses in Assam of north-east India having subtropical climate that may lead to viral subtype divergence.

Glioblastoma multiforme, a rare traumatic brain disorder, is at the research climax for its uncontrolled growth leading to a catastrophic outcome. Throwing light on the target-based virtual screening of drugs using natural phytocompounds is a striking cornerstone in glioblastoma-based drug discovery, accelerating with leaps and bounds. This project aims to develop promising lead compounds against glioblastoma brain cancer using OliveNet™, an open-source database.

Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) is a protein that works as a chaperone and an antioxidant and is activated by heat shock, environmental stress, and pathophysiological stress. However, HSP27 dysregulation is a characteristic of many human cancers. HSP27 suppresses apoptosis and cytoskeletal reorganization.

Background: Cardiac complications are a leading cause of maternal death. Cardiac imaging with echocardiography is important for prompt diagnosis, but it is not available in many low-resource settings. The aim of this study was to determine whether focused cardiac ultrasound performed by trained obstetricians and interpreted remotely by experts can identify cardiac abnormalities in pregnant women in low-resource settings.

The ripe fruit pulp of different Musa species is known for its excellent source of nutrient contents. Musa balbisiana (MB) is one such variety of Musa species, mainly found in the southern part of Asia, especially in the North-eastern part of India, remains unexplored despite its continuous use by the local traditional healers. The present study focuses on identifying and quantifying the active chemicals present in the ripe fruit pulp of Musa balbisiana (RFPMB) to understand its combined efficacy and nutritional benefit to control human metabolic complications specially related to diabetes and cardiovascular disorder.

The current study aimed to validate the mice model of alcohol (ALC), high-fat diet (HFD), and HFD + ALC combination affecting neurobehavioral and neurochemical anomalies via inflammatory cascade, lowered neurogenesis, enhanced microgliosis, reactive astrogliosis, activated IDO-1 (indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase), and reduce CHAT (choline acetyltransferase) signaling in the hippocampus (HIP). The adult male Swiss albino mice were provided with ALC (3-15%) and in-house prepared HFD for continuous 12 weeks. The HFD and HFD + ALC consumption impacted the liver and mediated HIP damage.

Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cause of cancer death, and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the most prevalent type worldwide, with a poor prognosis due to late diagnosis. The search for new molecular prognostic biomarkers revealed that dysregulation of anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) activation due to altered expression of APC molecules might lead to perturbed mitotic progression leading to malignancy. We analyzed the expression of the four different subunits of the APC/C complex-APC3, APC4, APC5 and APC7-by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).

The increase in the number of cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the complications associated with the side effects of chemical/synthetic drugs have raised concerns about the safety of the drugs. Hence, there is an urgent need to explore and identify natural bioactive compounds as alternative drugs. Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) functions as a negative regulator and is therefore considered as one of the key protein targets modulating insulin signaling and insulin resistance.
