Coconut endosperm residue is a rich dietary fiber resource; however, its hydration properties are poor. To enhance the functionality and applications of coconut endosperm residue dietary fiber (CERDF) in the food industry, ultrasound, cellulase, and hemicellulase hydrolysis combined with carboxymethylation or phosphate crosslinking have been used. The impact of the modified CERDFs on egg white protein gel (EWPG) was also studied.

Background: A full examination of gastrointestinal tract is an essential prerequisite for effectively detecting gastrointestinal lesions. However, there is a lack of efficient tools to analyze and recognize gastric anatomy locations, preventing the complete portrayal of entire stomach. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in identifying gastric anatomy sites by analyzing esophagogastroduodenoscopy images.

Despite advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, cancer continues to pose a challenge to disease-free longevity in humans. Numerous factors contribute to the onset and progression of cancer, among which sex differences, as an intrinsic biological condition, warrant further attention. The present review summarizes the roles of hormone receptors estrogen receptor α (ERα), estrogen receptor β (ERβ) and androgen receptor (AR) in seven types of cancer: Breast, prostate, ovarian, lung, gastric, colon and liver cancer.

The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays a critical role in various biological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue homeostasis. Aberrant activation of this pathway is strongly associated with the development of various cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, and gastric cancers, making it a promising therapeutic target. In recent years, inhibitors targeting different components of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, including small molecules, peptides, and nucleic acid-based therapies, have been developed to suppress cancer cell growth.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) pose substantial public health issues, necessitating population-specific characterization due to variations in pharmacogenes. This study delineates the pharmacogenomic (PGx) landscape of the South Korean (SKR) population, focusing on 21 core pharmacogenes. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was conducted on 396 individuals, including 99 healthy volunteers, 95 patients with chronic diseases, 81 with colon cancer, 81 with breast cancer, and 40 with gastric cancer, to identify genotype-specific drug dosing recommendations.

The standard approach for stage IV gastric cancer is palliative chemotherapy. However, despite the advancements in various chemotherapy regimens, the prognosis remains poor, highlighting the urgent need to develop more effective treatment strategies. The controversy persists regarding the integration of a local therapy including surgery in the management of unresectable stage IV gastric cancer.

To analyze the long-term prognosis of patients with locally advanced gastric cancer in the stage of ypT0~2N0M0 after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The clinical data of 78 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radical resection at ypT0~2N0M0 stage from January 2012 to December 2019 in the Department of Abdominal Surgery/Pancreatic and Gastric Surgery of the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences were retrospectively analyzed. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the overall survival and disease-free survival, and the survival difference between patients with postoperative ypT0N0M0 and ypT1~2N0M0 was compared.

Multigene panel testing has allowed for the detection of a growing number of inherited pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in people at high risk of cancer, including endometrial cancer (EC). Hereditary syndromes associated with EC include Lynch syndrome, PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. This manuscript provides the latest recommendations from the NCCN Guidelines for Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Colorectal, Endometrial, and Gastric on the screening and management of EC in patients at high risk for these syndromes, as well as the advantages and limitations of multigene panel testing.

Although body weight (BW) and body surface area (BSA) are utilized to establish the appropriate dosage of anticancer drugs, their distribution in cancer patients is poorly studied, making it challenging to predict the amount of drug use and related costs of BW or BAS-dosed regimens. This study investigates the distribution of BW and BSA in adults with selected cancers who initiated systemic anticancer treatment in the eastern Emilia-Romagna region hospitals between 2011 and 2021. BW and BSA were collected at the first cycle of each new treatment line, with multiple measurements for patients receiving various treatments or treating for other primary malignancies.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus capable of establishing lifelong latent infections, leading to a wide spectrum of diseases. It can affect multiple organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, typically through lymphoproliferative syndromes or gastric cancer, while acute gastrointestinal disease is rare and poorly understood. Two cases of EBV-induced acute colitis in kidney transplant recipients were described.

Here, we report a unique case of severe CMV gastritis in a patient receiving cemiplimab, an anti-PD-1 antibody, and talimogene laherparepvec (T-VEC), an oncolytic virus, without prior irAEs or immunosuppressive treatment. A 63-year-old man with advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma received cemiplimab for one year and a single T-VEC injection for recurrent disease.

In recent years, cancer immunotherapy has introduced novel treatments, such as monoclonal antibodies, which have facilitated targeted therapies against tumor cells. Programmed death-1 (PD-1) is an immune checkpoint expressed in T cells that regulates the immune system's activity to prevent over-activation and tissue damage caused by inflammation. However, PD-1 is also expressed in tumor cells and functions as an immune evasion mechanism, making it a therapeutic target to enhance the immune response and eliminate tumor cells.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors and is associated with poor prognosis. To improve the prognosis of GC patients, an effective immune-related prognostic biomarker is urgent. Here, we aim to explore the correlation between the expression of procalcitonin gamma subfamily A, 10 (PCDHGA10) and clinicopathological characteristics, especially its relation with tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TILs) in GC.

Helicobacter infection is a key cause of gastric B cell mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. This study examined the role of B cell-activating factor (BAFF), a major driver of B cell proliferation and many B cell disorders, in this malignancy using a model in which conditional knockout mice for NOD-like receptor family CARD domain-containing 5 (Nlrc5) are infected with Helicobacter felis. Gastric BAFF production was significantly increased in H.

Rationale: As a paraneoplastic syndrome, Trousseau syndrome (TS) is a collective term for various thromboembolic events caused by clotting and fibrinolytic abnormalities in patients with tumors, clinically manifesting as venous and arterial thromboembolism, as well as disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The incidence rate of arterial thrombosis in patients with TS is 2% to 5%.
Patient Concerns: This article reports 2 patients with TS-induced cerebral infarction.

Epidemiological and eradication trial evidence indicates that , a major causative factor in peptic ulcer and gastric cancer, is a driver of the hypokinesia of Parkinson's disease (PD). Psychological (cognitive impairment, depression and anxiety) and gastrointestinal (peptic ulceration and constipation) PD features can precede the symptomatic onset of motor features by decades. We hypothesise that the non- (NHPH), which have farm, companion and wild animals as their main hosts, can have a role in PD aetiopathogenesis.
