Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and all-cause, cardiovascular (CVD) mortality, in individuals with osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Methods: Using NHANES data from 2005 to 2019, 6,824 participants diagnosed with osteopenia and osteoporosis were analyzed. Participants were categorized based on GNRI tertiles, and statistical methods like the fitted curves, Kaplan-Meier curves, cox regression, and subgroup analyses were employed.

Pyroptosis is one of the ways to cause proximal tubular epithelial cell death in diabetic nephropathy (DN), but the exact mechanism remains unclear. Absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), a sensor for double-stranded DNA, creates an inflammasome that triggers the cleavage of gasdermin D (GSDMD), leading to a type of inflammatory cell death called pyroptosis. This study investigated the role of AIM2 in pyroptosis within proximal tubular epithelial cells in DN.

Gastric cancer ranks among the most prevalent malignancies globally, characterized by limited treatment efficacy and high recurrence rates. Effective management of this disease requires a comprehensive understanding of its underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Galectins have emerged as promising targets in gastric cancer therapy, with Galectin-9 (LGALS9) receiving considerable attention in recent years.

This study analyzed transcriptomic and proteomic data to identify molecular changes during heart failure (HF). Additionally,we embarked on an exploration of the prospect of therapeutic intervention through the manipulation of proteins implicated in ferroptosis. Three publicly available microarray datasets (GSE135055, GSE147236, GSE161472) profiling left ventricular samples from HF patients and healthy controls were obtained.

Oxaliplatin (OXA) is the first-line drug for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC), and susceptibility to drug resistance affects patient prognosis. However, the exact underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Platinum-acquired resistance in CRC is a continuous transition process; though, current research has mainly focused on the end state of drug resistance, and the early events of drug resistance have been ignored.

Background: Previous studies have adequately demonstrated that physical activity or healthy sleep duration can reduce the risk of hypertension. However, the combined effects of physical activity and healthy sleep on hypertension have not been well explored in studies using nationally representative samples.
Methods: The data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2018).

Background: Acute lung injury is a critical life-threatening complication of pulmonary and cardiac surgery with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) has been reported to play an important role in protecting vital organs from damage. This study aims to investigate the potential protective role and mechanism of FGF21 in pulmonary ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced acute lung injury.

Endothelial cells (ECs) are crucial for maintaining the integrity of blood vessel walls and reducing thrombosis. Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a common thrombotic disease and its diagnosis and treatment remain at the stage of coagulation function examination and post-onset treatment. Thus, identifying the pathogenesis of DVT is important.

Background And Aims: The monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), an inflammatory marker, has an unclear relationship with the risk of residual inflammation in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) below 1.4 mmol/L. This study aimed to assess the association between the MLR and cardiovascular and all-cause mortalities in these patients.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are characterized by permanent dilatation of the abdominal aorta, which is accompanied by inflammation, degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and disruption of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) homeostasis. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is involved in the regulation of inflammation, oxidative stress and VSMC apoptosis, all of which are critical factors in AAA development. Although several studies have revealed the occurrence of ER stress in AAA development, the specific biological functions of ER stress in AAA development remain largely unknown.

is one of the most common causes of hospital-acquired infections, especially due to the emergence of the hypervirulent (hvKp) strains. Multiple methods have been developed to discriminate hvKp strains from classical (cKp) strains, such as the presence of candidate genes (, -344, , and ), high level of siderophore production, hypermucoviscosity phenotype, Although the string test is commonly used to confirm the hypermucoviscosity of strains, it is a method lacking rigidity and accuracy. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with machine learning algorithms has been widely used in discriminating bacterial pathogens with different phenotypes.

Introduction: Apigenin is a natural flavonoid compound with promising potential for the attenuation of myocardial hypertrophy (MH). The compound can also modulate the expression of miR-185-5p that both promote MH and suppress autophagy. The current attempts to explain the anti-MH effect of apigenin by focusing on changes in miR-185-5p-mediated autophagy.

Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) can lead to vascular dysfunction and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and arterial diseases. Nevertheless, mechanisms underlying CIH-induced vascular dysfunction remain unclear. Herein, this study analyzed the role of aortic smooth muscle calciumactivated potassium (BK) channels in CIH-induced vascular dysfunction.
