Research on the dynamic expression of genes in plants is important for understanding different biological processes. We used the large amounts of transcriptomic data from various plant sample sources that are publicly available to investigate whether the expression levels of a subset of highly variable genes (HVGs) can be used to accurately identify the phenotypes of plants. Using maize ( L.

In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and dextran (Dex) were chemically modified to obtain amino-functionalized PEG (PEG-(NH)) and oxidized dextran (ODex). They were subsequently reacted via -NH and -CHO groups to synthesize a macromolecular Schiff base particle. The structures, morphologies, and thermal properties of the macromolecular Schiff base particle were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA).

Spermatogenesis and sperm maturation are complex biological processes that involve intricate cellular and molecular interactions. The Aldh2 gene is involved in the metabolism of specific aldehydes generated by oxidative stress. Aldh2 is abundantly expressed in the testis and epididymis; however, the specific role of Aldh2 in regulating spermatogenesis and sperm maturation remains unclear.

Near-natural restoration is acknowledged as an effective strategy for enhancing soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration in degraded grasslands. However, the alterations in SOC fractions, stability, and relative sequestration capacity after restoration of degraded alpine meadows remain uncertain. In this study, we utilized the degraded alpine meadows on the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau as a research area, with grazing as the control (CK) and restoration of 20 years of banned grazing (BG) and growing season resting grazing (RG).

Precocious sexual inducer (psi)-producing oxygenases (Ppos) participate in the production of C8 moldy volatile compounds (MVOCs), and these compounds could act as signal molecules modulating G protein signaling cascades, which participates in the growth and development, secondary metabolisms and pathogenicity of filamentous fungi. In this study, PePpoA and PePpoC proteins were identified in . The deletion of decreased C8 MVOC production in , while they were not detected in the strain ( < 0.

Manganese is one of the trace elements necessary for organisms to maintain normal biological activities and is also a cofactor for manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) and manganese peroxidase (MnP). In order to find a simple and effective method to rejuvenate the degenerated strains, we explored the effect of the exogenous addition of MnSO on the antioxidant vigour and productivity of degenerated strains of . The results showed that the exogenous MnSO had no significant effect on the non-degenerated strain T0, but it could effectively increase the mycelial growth rate, mycelial biomass, and LBL decolouring ability of the degenerated strains T10 and T19, and reduce the production cycle and increased the biological efficiency of T10; it helped the severely degenerated T19 to regrow its fruiting body; and it also significantly increased the viability of the matrix-degrading enzymes such as EG, Lac, Xyl, etc.

Under the increasing severity of drought issues and the urgent need for the resourceful utilization of agricultural waste, this study aimed to compare the soil water retention properties of hydrogels prepared from Chinese cabbage waste (CW) and banana peel (BP) using grafting techniques with acrylic acid (AA) and acrylamide (AAm). Free radical polymerization was initiated with ammonium persulfate (APS), and N, N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) served as the crosslinking agent to fabricate the grafted polymer hydrogels. The hydrogels were subjected to detailed evaluations of their water absorption, reusability, and water retention capabilities through indoor experiments.

Accurately analyzing the type of land use and change characteristics of disaster damage in landslide areas is of great significance to scientifically promote the optimization of regional land use pattern and disaster prevention and mitigation. We analyzed the characteristic parameters of landslides as well as the characteristics and driving factors of land use change from 1985 to 2020 in Tongwei County, Gansu Province, using ALOS DEM data and 1985-2020 land use data, GIS spatial analysis, land-use dynamic attitude, transfer matrix, and Geodetector. The results showed that a total of 1012 landslide samples were identified, characterized by medium elevation, gentle gradient, low elevation difference, short length, and small size.

Valsa canker, caused by fungal pathogens in Valsa species, is a fungal disease of apple and pear growing in China and even in Asia. Malectin-like kinases play crucial roles in plant recognition of the pathogen-induced signals and subsequent activation of partially host immune responses. However, the role of MEDOS1 (MDS1), a Malectin-like kinase, in plant immunity has not yet been extensively explored.

This study developed ferritin-based nanoparticles carrying the African swine fever virus (ASFV) p30 protein and evaluated their immunogenicity, aiming to provide an experimental basis for the research on nanoparticle vaccines against ASFV. Initially, the gene sequences encoding the p30 protein and SpyTag were fused and inserted into the pCold-I vector to create the pCold-p30 plasmid. The gene sequences encoding SpyCatcher and ferritin were fused and then inserted into the pET-28a(+) vector to produce the pET-F-np plasmid.

Unlabelled: Sheep are one of the globally significant livestock, providing meat, dairy products, and wool for human life, playing an indispensable role in human civilization. Despite significant advancements in microbiome research in recent years, most studies have focused solely on the rumen, lacking a comprehensive study covering the microbiome of different gastrointestinal tract (GIT) regions in sheep. In this study, we collected 338 samples from 10 different regions of the sheep GIT and systematically investigated their microbiome signatures, including community structure, enterotypes, interactions among taxa, and microbial community assembly.

Background: Ruminants possess a rich repository of natural antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) within their bodies, surpassing those found in humans and mice. These peptides, including Defensin, Cathelicidin, and Lysozyme, are integral to the body's innate and adaptive immune responses and represent promising alternatives to antibiotics with significant application potential.
Results: In the present study, we conducted a systematic analysis of 40 Defensins, 38 Cathelicidins, and 61 Lysozymes in cattle and sheep.

Texenomycins are a family of linear lipopeptaibols with a long polyketide side chain at the N-terminus and 21 amino acid residues at the -terminus, presenting demonstrated potential as antibiotics against plant fungal pathogens. In this study, texenomycins were identified and isolated from the fungus strain TTI-0396 and showed effective antifungal properties against two plant pathogens and . Through analysis of the whole-genome data of strain TTI-0396, we discovered a hybrid PKS-NRPS system with the polyketide synthase (PKS: TexQ), thioesterase (TexO), acyl-CoA ligase (TexI), and three nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs: TexG, TexJ, TexV) in the gene cluster that were proposed to be responsible for the biosynthesis of texenomycins and another related lipopeptaibol, lipohexin.

Capripoxviruses (CaPVs), such as lumpy skin disease, sheep pox, and goat pox, cause significant production and economic losses and are major constraints to the growth of livestock production in endemic areas. Understanding the pathogenic mechanism of CaPVs and their translation into clinical applications depends on the availability of a suitable cell line. In this study, we used a lentiviral packaging system to establish an immortalized hTERT-bOEC cell line by ectopic introduction of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT).

It has four congeners: 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-ADON), 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (15-ADON), nivalenol (NIV), and fusarenon X (FX). These five mycotoxins have been associated with the detrimental effect on food intake.
