Unlabelled: Industrialization has driven lifestyle changes in eastern and western Chinese populations, yet we have a poor understanding of the dynamic changes in their gut microbiome and resistome under industrialization, which is essential for the scientific management of public health. Here, this study employed metagenomics to analyze the gut microbiota of 1,382 healthy individuals from China, including 415 individuals from the eastern region of advanced industrialization and 967 individuals from the western region of developing industrialization. Compared with western populations, eastern populations show a significant increase in interindividual dissimilarity of microbial species composition and metabolic pathways but a significant decrease in intraindividual species and functional diversity.

Introduction: Near-natural restoration measures enhance the stability of plant life forms in degraded grasslands, facilitating the natural succession of plant communities.
Methods: In this study, we investigated the effects of three natural restoration measures on the alpine meadows of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau: banned grazing (BG), rest grazing (RG), traditional grazing (TG), and continuous grazing (CG). We utilized redundancy analysis (RDA), variation partitioning(VP), hierarchical partitioning (HP), and partial least squares pathway modeling (PLS-PM) to dissect the quantitative relationships between the distribution of plant life forms and soil physical properties under these restoration measures.

Jasmonic acid (JA), as a defensive plant hormone, can synergistically or antagonistically interact with common hormones such as gibberellin (GA), abscisic acid (ABA), indole-3-acetic hormone acid (IAA), and ethylene (ETH) during the plant growth process, as well as interact with hormones such as melatonin (MT), brassinolide (BR), and resveratrol to regulate plant growth and development processes such as metabolite synthesis, pest and disease defense, and organ growth. The core regulatory factor MYC2 of JA mainly mediates the signal transduction pathways of these hormone interactions by interacting with other genes or regulating transcription. This article reviews the mechanism of cross-talk between JA and hormones such as ABA, GA, and salicylic acid (SA), and discusses the role of MYC2 in hormone interactions.

The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP), one of the most important ecological regions in the world, is experiencing a decline in ecological function as a result of severe grassland degradation. Elymus nutans is one of the ecological grass species for restoring degraded grasslands in QTP. The seed yield and seed quality are often limited by soil nutrients in QTP, so it is very important to optimize the application rates of fertilizer for E.

Evaluating the dynamic co-evolution and feedback mechanisms within socio-ecological systems is crucial for determining the resilience and sustainability of environmental governance strategies. The grass-livestock system, as a complex entity encompassing livestock nutrition, foraging behavior, vegetation ecology, pastoralists' economic income, and policy interventions, indicates that any change in a single element may trigger a chain reaction within the system. This paper uses a system dynamics approach to construct a simulation model of the grass-livestock system in alpine pastoral areas, simulating the long-term dynamic co-evolution of the socio-ecological system in the Qilian Mountains region of China.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are highly conserved endogenous non-coding RNAs that play a crucial role in fish immune response by regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. In recent years, the viral diseases caused by infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) have caused significant economic losses in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) aquaculture, whereas the immune regulatory mechanisms of miRNAs involved in rainbow trout resistance to IHNV infection remains largely undefined. In this study, we analyzed the structural characteristics of Oncorhynchus mykiss tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 (OmTRAF3) by bioinformatics software and explored the molecular mechanism of miR-203-3p in rainbow trout resistance to IHNV by regulating OmTRAF3 in vivo and in vitro.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has caused significant harm to the global pig industry since its discovery. In this study, a highly pathogenic strain of GIIa PEDV CH/HBXT/2018, isolated previously, was continuously passaged in Vero cells up to passage (P)240, resulting in a completely attenuated virus. The proliferation characteristics of different passages of the strain in Vero cells, pathogenicity in newborn piglets, and mutations in S gene sequence indicated that as the passage number increased, the replication efficiency of PEDV in Vero cells gradually improved, with a more pronounced cytopathic effect.

In order to explore the water and fertilizer requirements of eggplants in the western oasis of the river, the experiment was conducted in Minle County of Gansu Province in 2022 and 2023 under three water stress gradients and three nitrogen application levels: (1) moderate water stress (W, 50-60% in field water capacity [FC]), mild water stress (W, 60-70% in FC), and full irrigation (W, 70-80% in FC); (2) low nitrogen (N, 215 kg·ha), medium nitrogen (N, 270 kg·ha), and high nitrogen (N, 325 kg·ha). Moderate and mild water stress were applied during eggplant flowering and fruiting while full irrigation was provided during the other growth stages; a control class (CK) was established with full irrigation throughout the whole plant growth without nitrogen application. This study investigated the effects of water-saving and nitrogen reduction on the yield, quality, and water-nitrogen use efficiency of eggplants in a cold and arid environment in the Hexi Oasis irrigation area of China.

Low-temperature (LT) stress seriously affects the distribution, seedling survival, and grain yield of maize. At the seedling emergence stage, maize's coleoptile is one of the most sensitive organs in sensing LT signaling and, in general, it can envelop young leaves to protect them from LT damage. In addition, brassinolides (BRs) have been shown to enhance LT tolerance from various species, but the effects of BRs on coleoptiles in maize seedlings under LT stress are unclear.
