Aims: To determine if estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) can predict cardiovascular disease mortality risk at different levels of glycaemic tolerance.

Materials And Methods: The eGDR levels of 11 656 individuals aged 45-79 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cycles 1999 to 2010 were analysed. Associations between eGDR levels and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were examined using Cox proportional hazards and Fine and Gray models, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess changes in dry eye symptoms in 21 highly myopic patients after undergoing posterior chamber phakic refractive lens (PC-PRL) implantation, with follow-ups at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months post-surgery.
  • Significant postoperative differences were found in the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores, peaking at one week and stabilizing thereafter, while non-invasive tear break-up times decreased but returned to baseline levels by three months.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that while PC-PRL implantation affects tear film stability immediately after surgery, overall dry eye parameters either stabilized or showed no significant changes at the 3-month mark.

In order to understand the status of aflatoxin contamination in dried chilli products in Gansu Province and the risk of dietary exposure, a total of 106 samples of dried chilli products from farmers' markets and supermarkets in 14 prefecture-cities of Gansu Province were collected and analysed by isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed that the detection rate of aflatoxin in dried chilli products in Gansu Province was 30.2%, and the average level was 1.

Introduction: Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is an index for the quality evaluation of the traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus and an important material basis for Astragalus to exert its medicinal effects, and it is difficult to obtain a single AS-IV by ordinary separation methods.

Objective: To find a new isolation method that can prepare AS-IV quickly and efficiently.

Methodology: AS-IV was isolated from Astragalus membranaceus extract by high-speed countercurrent chromatography using a two-phase solvent system consisting of ethyl acetate/n-butanol/water (4.

Effects of home-based telemedicine and mHealth interventions on blood pressure in stroke patients: a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

J Stroke Cerebrovasc Dis

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Environmental Ecology and Population Health in Northwest Minority Areas, Medical College of Northwest Minzu University, Lanzhou, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Stroke is a common cerebrovascular disease. Elevated blood pressure is the most significant manageable factor for both initial and recurrent strokes. Despite the potential benefits of telemedicine and mobile health technology (mHealth) in managing blood pressure among stroke patients, there remains skepticism.

Article Synopsis
  • * 26 patients were analyzed, divided into two groups: the test group (greater trochanter approach) and the control group (K-L approach), with no significant differences in initial demographics or surgery timing.
  • * Results showed that while operation time was shorter for the test group, there were no notable differences in incision length, intraoperative bleeding, or hip function between the two methods, although the test group demonstrated better hip muscle strength.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact and underlying molecular mechanisms of electroacupuncture on mice with poststroke depression (PSD). Mice were randomly allocated into sham, PSD, and electroacupuncture groups. Mice in the PSD and electroacupuncture groups underwent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) surgery following with sedentary behavior.

Background: Lung cancer is a malignant tumor, for which pulmonary nodules are considered to be significant indicators. Early recognition and timely treatment of pulmonary nodules can contribute to improving the survival rate of patients with cancer. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) is a noninvasive, fusion imaging technique that can obtain both functional and structural information of lung regions.

Leucine-rich repeat-containing 8A (LRRC8A) is a key component of the volume-regulated anion channel (VRAC) that influences essential homeostatic processes in various immune cells. These processes include the regulation of cell volume and membrane potential and the facilitation of the transport of organic agents used as anticancer drugs and immune-stimulating factors. Therefore, understanding the structure-function relationship of LRRC8A, exploring its physiological role in immunity, assessing its efficacy in treating diseases, and advancing the development of compounds that regulate its activity are important research frontiers.
