With the intention of advancing our research on diverse C-20 derivatives of camptothecin (CPT), CPT derivatives bearing sulphonamide and sulfonylurea chemical scaffolds and different substituent groups have been designed, synthesised and evaluated for cytotoxicity against four tumour cell lines, A-549 (lung carcinoma), KB (nasopharyngeal carcinoma), MDA-MB-231 (triple-negative breast cancer) and KBvin (an MDR KB subiline). As a result, all the synthesised compounds showed promising cytotoxic activity against the four cancer cell lines tested, and were more potent than irinotecan. Importantly, compounds , , and possessed better antiproliferative activity against all tested tumour cell lines with IC values of 0.

circIARS: a potential plasma biomarker for diagnosing non-small cell lung cancer.

Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai)

June 2024

Medical School of Nantong University, Nantong University, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Nantong 226001, China.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world, and early diagnosis can effectively improve patient survival. Here, differentially expressed circIARS genes are screened from the sequencing results, and their molecular characteristics are examined by Sanger sequencing, RNase R assay, agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE), and fluorescence hybridization (FISH). Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) is performed to detect the expression level of circIARS.

Non-Coding RNAs in Kidney Stones.

Biomolecules

February 2024

Department of Urology, Institute of Urology, Gansu Nephro-Urological Clinical Center, Key Laboratory of Urological Diseases in Gansu Province, Lanzhou University Second Hospital, Lanzhou 730030, China.

Nephrolithiasis is a major public health concern associated with high morbidity and recurrence. Despite decades of research, the pathogenesis of nephrolithiasis remains incompletely understood, and effective prevention is lacking. An increasing body of evidence suggests that non-coding RNAs, especially microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), play a role in stone formation and stone-related kidney injury.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a potential alternative to traditional cancer treatments as it offers deep cellular penetration and reduced invasivity. Sonosensitizers generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) under ultrasound activation, focusing the ultrasound energy on malignant sites located deep in tissues and causing cell apoptosis and necrosis. However, due to tumor hypoxia and the limited levels of intracellular endogenous hydrogen peroxide (HO is a fundamental species for supplying oxygen catalase activity), SDT efficacy is still insufficient.

Introduction: The treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and lenvatinib individually has shown favorable outcomes, but there is currently no meta-analysis based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to investigate the efficacy and safety of this combined treatment for HCC. The aim of this study was to identify the efficacy and safety of TACE plus lenvatinib for the treatment of HCC.

Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE (via PubMed), the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and the Web of Science was conducted on July 31, 2023.

There are several established methods for obtaining repeated blood samples from rats, with the most commonly employed methods being lateral tail vein sampling without anesthesia and jugular vein sampling with anesthesia. However, most of these methods require assistance and anesthetic equipment and sometimes pose difficulties in terms of blood collection or the poor quality of blood samples. In addition, these methods of blood collection consume significant time and human resources when repeated blood sampling is required for a large number of rats.
