This study investigates the effects of two parathyroid hormone (PTH) analogs, rhPTH(1-34) and dimeric PTH(1-34), on bone regeneration and osseointegration in a postmenopausal osteoporosis model using beagle dogs. Twelve osteoporotic female beagles were subjected to implant surgeries and assigned to one of three groups: control, rhPTH(1-34), or dimeric PTH(1-34). Bone regeneration and osseointegration were evaluated after 10 weeks using micro-computed tomographic (micro-CT), histological analyses, and serum biochemical assays.

Background: Osteosarcopenia, characterized by the simultaneous loss of bone and muscle mass, is a serious health problem in the aging population. This study investigated the interplay between host genetics, gut microbiota, and musculoskeletal health in a mouse model of osteosarcopenia, exploring the therapeutic potential of gut microbiota modulation.
Methods: We examined the effects of Rg3, a phytochemical, on osteosarcopenia and its interactions with host genetics and gut microbiota in six founder strains of the Collaborative Cross (CC) population.

Chaperonin containing TCP1 (CCT) is an essential protein that controls proteostasis following spinal cord damage. In particular, CCT2 plays an important role in neuronal death in various neurological disorders; however, few studies have investigated the effects of CCT2 on ischemic damage in the spinal cord. In the present study, we synthesized a cell-permeable Tat-CCT2 fusion protein and observed its effects on HO-induced oxidative damage in NSC34 motoneuron-like cells and in the spinal cord after ischemic injury.

Excessive fluoride ions (F) in drinking water and food is harmful for human health and the environment. Therefore, a fluorescent probe tetraphenylethylene-quinoline (P-1) is developed with multiple sensing properties for the sequential detection of tert-butyldiphenylsilyl chloride (TBDS), F, and viscosity. Sensor P-1 first recognized TBDS and then observed an intramolecular charge transfer process, which produced an intermediate sensor P-2 in addition to fluorescence quenching at 576 nm.

To mitigate adverse reactions induced by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), Cnidium officinale fraction 2 (F2) polysaccharides served as the macromolecular carrier, facilitating its reaction with carboxymethyl-5-fluorouracil (C-5-FU) for producing F2-C-5-FU. Subsequently, this compound could react with folic acid (FA) through the ester bond, forming F2-C-5-FU-FA, as verified through NMR analysis. The in vitro anticancer efficacy of F2-C-5-FU-FA was evaluated using SKOV-3 cells that expressed folate receptor (FR) and FR-deficient A549 cells, showing greater cytotoxicity in the SKOV-3 cell line due to the FRs on the cell membrane.

Oxidative stress induced by glutamate is a significant contributor to neuronal cell damage and can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and ischemic brain injury. At the cellular level, oxidative stress increases Ca ion influx and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which activate the MAPK signaling pathway. Additionally, the generation of ROS causes mitochondrial dysfunction, triggering apoptosis by promoting the translocation of AIF to the nucleus from the mitochondria.

Understanding the pathway complexity of supramolecular polymerization in biomimetic systems has been a challenging issue due to its importance in the development of rationally controlled materials and insight into self-assembly in nature. We herein report a kinetic trapping strategy as a new methodology on how to control the pathway of metallosupramolecular polymerization by employing secondary metal ions and/or ligands which form competitive complex species. For this, we proposed monoalkynylplatinum(ii) metalloligand (Pt-L) derived from a bis(amideterpyridine) receptor with one unoccupied terpyridyl terminal as a coordination site for the secondary metal ion (Ag or Fe).

The study focuses on the development of folate-targeted conjugates utilizing Angelica gigas polysaccharide (F2) as a drug carrier for colorectal cancer therapy. We synthesized F2-C-5-FU conjugates by linking carboxymethyl-5-fluorouracil (C-5-FU) with folic acid (FA) through ester bonding. The drug release behavior of F2-C-5-FU-FA was pH-dependent, favoring release under alkaline conditions.

In epithelial cells, Scribble forms cell-cell junctions and contributes to cell morphology and homeostasis by regulating apical-basolateral polarity in mammals and functions as a tumor suppressor in many carcinomas. The initial diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma is important, and its prognosis is poor when accompanied by metastasis. However, research on the mechanisms of oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis is insufficient.

This study aims to analyze the trends, causes, and future prospects of aerosols in the Arctic region using ground-based observations, satellite data, and reanalysis model data. An analysis of aerosol remote sensing data from AERONET stations in the Arctic from 2000 to 2023 showed a long-term decrease in aerosol optical depth (AOD), aligning with emission regulations in Europe and North America and changes in atmospheric circulation patterns. However, the maximum AOD values observed at AERONET stations in Canada and Russia during the period of 2018-2023 were up to five times higher than the long-term average.

Background: The shift from traditional two-dimensional (2D) planning to three-dimensional (3D) virtual surgical planning (VSP) has revolutionized orthognathic surgery, offering new levels of precision and control. VSP, combined with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, enables the creation of patient-specific surgical guides and implants that translate preoperative plans into more precise surgical outcomes. This review examines the comparative accuracy and operative efficiency of VSP, especially when used with custom surgical guides, against conventional 2D planning in orthognathic surgery.
