This review explains the various methods of conversion of Carbon dioxide (CO) to methanol by using homogenous, heterogeneous catalysts through hydrogenation, photochemical, electrochemical, and photo-electrochemical techniques. Since, CO is the major contributor to global warming, its utilization for the production of fuels and chemicals is one of the best ways to save our environment in a sustainable manner. However, as the CO is very stable and less reactive, a proper method and catalyst development is most important to break the CO bond to produce valuable chemicals like methanol.

The thrombin binding aptamer (TBA) is a 15-mer DNA oligonucleotide (5'-GGT TGG TGT GGT TGG-3'), that can form a stable intramolecular antiparallel chair-like G-quadruplex structure. This aptamer shows anticoagulant properties by interacting with one of the two anion binding sites of thrombin, namely the fibrinogen-recognition exosite. Here, we demonstrate that terminal modification of TBA with aromatic fragments such as coumarin, pyrene and perylene diimide (PDI), improves the G-quadruplex stability.

Conventional chemical methods to transform methane and carbon dioxide into useful chemicals are plagued by the requirement for extreme operating conditions and expensive catalysts. Exploitation of microorganisms as biocatalysts is an attractive alternative to sequester these C1 compounds and convert them into value-added chemicals through their inherent metabolic pathways. Microbial biocatalysts are advantageous over chemical processes as they require mild-operating conditions and do not release any toxic by-products.

Two sterically crowded benzo-tetrathiafulvalene (BTTF)-annulated expanded porphyrins (BTTF7-F and BTTF8) are synthesized. Detailed photophysical investigations reveal their intrinsic intramolecular charge transfer (CT) character, originated from partial electron transfer from electron-rich TTF units to the relatively electron-deficient macrocyclic core. This finding stands in contrast to what was observed in the previously reported Figure-of-eight conformer of BTTF-annulated [28]hexaphyrin (BTTF6), in which a typical π-π* electronic transition from HOMO to LUMO was observed.

By attaching the1-pyreneiodide ancillary ligand to the surface of polyvinylpyrrolidone-stabilized gold (Au:PVP) cluster or the cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide-stabilized gold (Au:CTAB) nanorod, a new class of luminescent mixed ligand-stabilized gold nanostructures is synthesized. This postsynthetic surface modification method followed by us is a comparatively easier and hassle-free technique to acquire surface-active luminescent "". Careful analyses of transmission electron microscopy images revealed that the sizes of these Au-clusters or Au-nanorods remain unchanged without any noticeable aggregation in the medium.
