Rheumatol Ther

April 2022

Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, SIUMB School of Bologna, Maggiore Hospital, Bologna, Italy.

Introduction: Adhesive capsulitis (AC), which is characterised by shoulder pain and a limited range of motion (ROM), is usually diagnosed on the basis of clinical suspicion, with imaging only being used to exclude other causes of similar symptoms. The aim of this study was to identify and describe the typical ultrasound (US) features of AC in a group of patients with shoulder pain and stiffness.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 1486 patients with AC in which two experienced US specialists examined the axillary pouch (AP), the coracohumeral ligament (CHL), the superior glenohumeral ligament (SGHL), and the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT), and dynamically visualised the infraspinatus tendon during passive external rotation (PER) during a US evaluation of shoulder ROM.

The current study aimed to verify whether or not passive static stretching affects balance control capacity. Thirty-eight participants (19 women and 19 men) underwent a passive static stretching session, involving the knee extensor/flexor and dorsi/plantarflexor muscles, and a control session (no stretching, CTRL). Before (PRE), immediately after (POST), after 15 (POST15) and 30 min (POST30) from stretching (or rest in CTRL), balance control was evaluated under static and dynamic conditions, with open/closed eyes, and with/without somatosensory perturbation (foam under the feet).

Introduction: Work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) pain is a highly prevalent condition and one of the main contributors to disability and loss of work capacity. Current approaches to the management and prevention of work-related MSK pain do not consistently integrate current evidence-based knowledge and seem to be outdated. The Prevent4Work (P4W) Project aims to collect and spread evidence-based information to improve the management and prevention of work-related MSK pain.

Wide resection is currently considered the mainstay treatment for primary bone tumors. When the tumor is located in anatomically complex segments, 3D-Printed Titanium Custom-Made Prostheses (3DPTCMP) are possible reconstructive solutions. The aim of the present paper is to analyze indications, results and complications of a series of 14 patients who underwent pelvis reconstruction with 3DPTCMP after tumor removal from January 2015 to December 2019.

Objective: Soluble CD14 (sCD14) plays an important role in the innate immune response of the oral cavity. The investigation of this biomarker for detection of carious lesions is an even more actual procedure due to its non-invasiveness and the ease of withdrawal. The purpose of the present observational case-control study was to evaluate whether the quantification of sCD14 in children and adolescent's saliva can discriminate healthy subjects from those suffering from tooth decay.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Cochrane have been collaborating for a long time. As a part of "Rehabilitation 2030: a call for action", WHO's Department of Noncommunicable Diseases is developing a Package of Rehabilitation Interventions (PRI) which provides a set of prioritized evidence-based interventions, along with resource requirements for their delivery. Cochrane Rehabilitation were asked to contribute to the methodological development of the PRI, with particular involvement in the initial phases of the evidence selection and extraction.

Introduction: Narrow band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) and psoralen-ultraviolet A (PUVA) remain inexpensive and effective anti-psoriatic therapies adopted worldwide with different frequency protocols. We aimed to systematically assess the evidence on the effects of different frequency protocols of phototherapy in treating psoriasis.

Evidence Acquisition: We used the following terms, namely "photochemotherapy," "phototherapy," "psoriasis," "UVB," "UVA" and "ultraviolet therapy," to search the Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials, MEDLINE and Embase databases on August 1, 2019.

Background: During the recent COVID-19 outbreak, masks became mandatory and shortages frequent, therefore the prevalence of non-CE (European Conformity Mark) approved masks increased in the general population. We aimed to quantify the prevalence of mask-related cutaneous side effects and the differences between CE and non-CE approved masks.

Methods: In this multicenter prospective observational study conducted from March 20, 2020 to May 12, 2020(during and after quarantine), patients attending emergency departments for a dermatological consult were clinically assessed and their masks were inspected to detect CE marks and UNI (Italian National Unification Entity) norms.

Hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia are often observed in individuals with type II diabetes (T2D) and related mouse models. One dysmetabolic biochemical consequence is the non-enzymatic reaction between sugars, lipids, and proteins, favoring protein glycation, glycoxidation, and lipoxidation. Here, we identified oxidative alterations in key components of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecule antigen processing and presentation machinery in vivo under conditions of hyperglycemia-induced metabolic stress.

Objective: Clinically overt symptomatic bone disease in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is rarely seen today, and osteoporosis is the dominant finding. Subperiosteal bone resorption in the fingers and skull mottling are typical bone PHPT findings, the contemporary prevalence of which is unknown. We evaluated these mild lesions and investigated the impact of their occurrence on PHPT clinical management.

Background: Chronic supplementation with carnosine and β-alanine (Carn-βA) has been proposed to improve muscle contractility and reduce muscle fatigue mainly through an increase in intracellular pH buffering capacity. However, the acute ergogenic effects of Carn-βA supplementation are poorly investigated. This study aimed at evaluating the acute effects of a single Carn-βA supplementation on the cardiorespiratory and metabolic response during a ramp cycle-ergometric test.

The present study aimed to perform a systematic critical appraisal of the methodological quality of systematic reviews (SRs) on the effect of autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) in the treatment of periodontal intraosseous defects and to provide a synthesis of the main clinical findings available. An electronic and hand search was performed up to February 2020; 14 systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), of which 11 were meta-analyses, were included. Only one SR fully satisfied all 11 items of the AMSTAR ("A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews") checklist for methodological quality evaluation, 3 SRs were classified of high quality, 8 of medium quality, and 2 of low quality.

October 2020

Section of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, University of Perugia, Perugia, Italy.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are common and influence negatively the patient's therapeutic options. They recognize multiple pathogenic mechanisms, some of immunological origin, and the clinical manifestations involve several organs and systems, including skin and/or mucous membranes in 25-30% of patients. The identification of the trigger drug remains a medical challenge, mainly in poly-medicated patients.
