Targeting of the G9a, DNMT1 and UHRF1 epigenetic complex as an effective strategy against pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive cancer with limited treatment options and a poor prognosis. The critical role of epigenetic alterations such as changes in DNA methylation, histones modifications, and chromatin remodeling, in pancreatic tumors progression is becoming increasingly recognized. Moreover, in PDAC these aberrant epigenetic mechanisms can also limit therapy efficacy.

Immigrant Health and Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer Disparities: Results From the Spanish Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer Consortium.

Purpose: To better understand immigration disparities among a Spanish Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer (SECOC) subset, according to the country of origin.

Patients And Methods: We selected 250 consecutive participants from the SECOC consortium. Data on baseline patient and tumor characteristics, family history of colorectal cancer (CRC), and follow-up were collected.

Introduction: Specific training at surgical super-specialities and its objective evaluation is a challenge nowadays in order to measure the potential benefits that it might add.

Material And Methods: An online survey addressed by the "Grupo Joven de la Asociación Española de Coloproctología" has been performed in order to evaluate the level of formation achieved specifically at colorectal surgery.

Results: 128 surgeons participated, representing 81 colorectal surgery units.

Unlabelled: The diagnosis of Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) is frequently challenging, especially in terms of the distinction from the other non-neoplastic causes of cytopenia. Currently, it is based on the presence of peripheral blood cytopenias, peripheral blood and bone marrow dysplasia/blasts, and clonal cytogenetic abnormalities, but MDS diagnostic features are polymorphic and non-specific. We investigated the utility of complete blood count (CBC) and research parameters (RUO) from the analyzer BC 6800 Plus (Mindray Diagnostics) to discriminate MDS-related cytopenia.

Thromboprophylaxis during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for bladder cancer reduces thromboembolism and bleeding.

Objectives: To assess the risk of venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) and bleeding with or without thromboprophylaxis during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in bladder cancer patients scheduled for radical cystectomy.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 4886 patients with non-metastatic bladder cancer undergoing cystectomy across 28 centres in 13 countries between 1990 and 2021. Inverse probability weighting analyses were performed to estimate the effect of thromboprophylaxis on VTE and bleeding.

Basic host response parameters to classify mortality risk in COVID-19 and community-acquired pneumonia.

Improved phenotyping in pneumonia is necessary to strengthen risk assessment. Via a feasible and multidimensional approach with basic parameters, we aimed to evaluate the effect of host response at admission on severity stratification in COVID-19 and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Three COVID-19 and one CAP multicenter cohorts including hospitalized patients were recruited.

Acetazolamide-induced pulmonary oedema: A disproportionality analysis from the EudraVigilance database.

To our knowledge, no prior study has analysed a possible association between acetazolamide and pulmonary oedema. The aim of this study was to use data from the EudraVigilance to detect a safety signal for acetazolamide-induced pulmonary oedema. We performed a disproportionality analysis (case-noncase method), calculating reporting odds ratios (RORs) up to 22 February 2024.

Latent tuberculosis infection treatment completion in Biscay: differences between regimens and monitoring approaches.

Introduction: Contact tracing and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a key element of tuberculosis (TB) control in low TB incidence countries. A TB control and prevention program has been active in the Basque Country since 2003, including the development of the nurse case manager role and a unified electronic record. Three World Health Organization-approved LTBI regimens have been used: isoniazid for 6 months (6H), rifampicin for 4 months (4R), and isoniazid and rifampicin for 3 months (3HR).

Advanced Lipoproteins and Lipidomic Profile in Plasma Determined by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Before and After Bariatric Surgery.

Background: Obesity is related to cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, and hypertension, which increase mortality. Basic lipid determinations could underestimate the true atherogenic risk of patients and the impact of bariatric surgery. The objective of the study is to demonstrate the change in the advanced molecular profile of lipoproteins determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy in plasma after bariatric surgery, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The therapeutic relationship from the perspective of patients and nurses in the first days of admission: A cross-sectional study in acute mental health units.

The therapeutic relationship (TR) is essential in mental health nursing care and plays a fundamental role in the understanding and treatment of the patient's health status. Despite being a bidirectional construct, limited evidence is available to shed light on this issue in mental health units and even less so in the first days of admission. This study aimed to examine the association and differences between nurses' and patients' perspectives on the establishment of the therapeutic relationship in acute mental health units during the first days of hospitalization.

Background: Although transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) is often underdiagnosed, clinical suspicion is essential for early diagnosis.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a feasible prediction model and score to facilitate the diagnosis of ATTR-CA.

Methods: This retrospective multicenter study enrolled consecutive patients who underwent Tc-DPD scintigraphy for suspected ATTR-CA.

Variables related to health-related quality of life among breast cancer survivors after participation in an interdisciplinary treatment combining mindfulness and physiotherapy.

Background: Breast cancer diagnosis and treatment increase the potential psychological impact on breast cancer survivors (BCS). The objective of this study was to assess the effects of an interdisciplinary intervention during follow-up in BCS and identify variables related to improvements in HRQoL.

Materials And Methods: In a non-randomised quasi-experimental design performed on an outpatient basis in a hospital gynaecology and oncology unit, 60 BCS were assigned to an interdisciplinary experimental group (EG) or a usual care group (CG).

This meteorological phenomenon, which is considered one of the most dangerous, can affect the entire population, but certain populations are at greater risk. Concretely, elderly people are more prompt to suffer from chronic diseases and therefore to be on medication that can interact with the different temperature-regulating systems of the body.

Urachal sinus: An atypical case and review of the literature.

Urachal sinus is a rare type of urachal abnormality. It happens because of blind focal dilation at the umbilical end and has increased risk of infection. We report the case of a 23-year-old female with abdominal pain and umbilical discharge.
