Article Synopsis
  • Cancers of unknown primary (CUPs) pose diagnostic difficulties due to their unidentifiable origins and poor prognosis when associated with massive pleural effusion (MPE).
  • A 62-year-old woman with MPE underwent fluid extraction and was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, raising concerns for gynecological cancer, despite imaging showing no primary malignancy.
  • Chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel improved the patient's performance status and reduced symptoms, suggesting that initial treatment can be effective even in patients with poor health conditions.

Adrenal insufficiency in systemic lupus erythematosus is rarely detected, especially in male patients. Nevertheless, such coexistence can occur, and screening for systemic lupus erythematosus should be considered in primary adrenal insufficiency with symptoms of systemic multiorgan involvement. We report a 22-year-old Asian man, initially diagnosed with bicytopenia, developed severe unintentional weight loss, skin and mucosal hyperpigmentation, along with persistent fatigue.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the prognostic role of vimentin in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients, focusing on how it relates to chemotherapy types and p53 mutant expression.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 72 TNBC patients over 48 months, finding that vimentin expression was linked to better overall survival, particularly in those receiving non-platinum-based chemotherapy and those with p53 mutations.
  • - The results suggested that while vimentin was generally associated with improved survival rates, its significance varied based on the chemotherapy regimen and the presence of p53 mutations.

Malaria is known to be a significant risk factor and also a potential complicating factor during the treatment of lymphoid malignancy. There has not been a reported case of malaria reactivation that occurred weeks after cytotoxic chemotherapy completion, especially in non-endemic regions. Our patient was a 47-year-old man with a history of repeated falciparum malaria infection experiencing 2 months of progressive unilateral nasal blockage and recurrent anterior epistaxis, which was diagnosed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) through pathological examination.

Purpose: Determining the optimal strategy to implement systemic treatment modalities has been challenging in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). We aim to investigate the role of microRNA-223 (miR-223) as prognostic factor and predictor of response toward chemotherapy in TNBC.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the association of pretreatment miR-223 expression with clinicopathologic characteristics and 36-month overall survival (OS) of 53 all stages TNBC patients.

Background: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) (represents roughly 25% of all breast cancers in Yogyakarta) still has the worst survival compared to other breast cancer subtypes. Results from recent studies have shown that inhibition of programmed death-ligand 1 receptor (PD-L1) in TNBC patients is associated with better prognosis. Currently, data on PD-L1 expression and its prognostic value in Indonesian TNBC patients are still relatively unknown.

Background: Occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) is defined as the presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA in the serum and/or liver in HBsAg-negative individuals. OBI is associated with the risk of viral transmission, especially in developing countries, and with progressive liver disease and reactivation in immunosuppressive patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relation of OBI to HLA-DP single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) encoding antigen-binding sites for the immune response to HBV infection.

Background: The VEGF gene polymorphism rs699947 related to clinical pathology, mortality, and recurrence of HCC. Few studies mentioned an association between VEGF gene polymorphisms with illness progression in chronic liver disease. We aimed to explore differences of VEGF gene polymorphism rs699947 in chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma patients in Indonesian population.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is fibrotic lung diseases of the pulmonary parenchyma following chronic inhalation of inorganic dusts containing crystalline silicon dioxide. The acute manifestations observed after heavy ashfalls include attacks of asthma and bronchitis, with an increased reporting of cough, breathlessness, chest tightness, and wheezing due to irritation of the lining of the airways. The chronic health condition of most concern is silicosis, a diffuse nodular fibrosis of the lungs, develops slowly, usually appearing 10 to 30 years after first exposure.

Angiogenesis is generally induced in the process of necro-inflammation and regeneration in chronic liver diseases (CLD). Whereas VEGF is a major humoral factor in relation to neo-vascularization, the receptor, VEGFR-2, is located in hepatocytes and sinusoid endothelial cells. The aim in this study is to investigate the significance of soluble form of VEGFR-2 (sVEGFR-2) in various CLDs.
