We report the first observation of spectral blue shift of plasmon resonance of synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) due to a negative optical nonlinearity of a local ambient medium, , indigo carmine (IC) solution at around 420 nm wavelength. The blue shift occurred at a larger concentration of AgNPs or at a larger concentration of IC solution, being in obvious contrast to spectral red shift which was widely witnessed in plasmon spectral shift in a linear regime. Plasmon-enhanced local fields could excite the third-order optical nonlinearity for blue shift even under continuous (non-pulsed) light illumination.

We investigated the coupling phenomenon between plasmonic resonance and waveguide modes through theoretical and experimental parametric analyses on the bimetallic waveguide-coupled long-range surface plasmon resonance (Bi-WCLRSPR) structure. The calculation results indicated that the multi-plasmonic coupling gives rise to the enhanced depth-to-width ratio of the reflection dip compared to that of LRSPR excited using a single set of Ag and Teflon. The optimized thickness of Ag(40 nm)/Teflon(700 nm)/Ag(5 nm)/Au(5 nm) was obtained and generated the highest plasmon intensity enhancement, which was 2.

The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to spread rapidly, and patients with diabetes are at risk of experiencing rapid progression and poor prognosis for appropriate treatment. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), which includes accurately tracking fluctuations in glucose levels without raising the risk of coronavirus exposure, becomes an important strategy for the self-management of diabetes during this pandemic, efficiently contributing to the diabetes care and the fight against COVID-19. Despite being less accurate than direct blood glucose monitoring, wearable noninvasive systems can encourage patient adherence by guaranteeing reliable results through high correlation between blood glucose levels and glucose concentrations in various other biofluids.

Heavy-metal-free carbon materials were prepared from spent coffee grounds (SCG) using the coupled KOH-urea and NaOH-urea as activating agents, and these were compared with SCG activation by the alkali salts alone. SCG was impregnated with the activating agents before being pyrolyzed at 800 °C under a N atmosphere. Characterization of the as-pyrolyzed carbon materials was performed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and measurement of N adsorption-desorption isotherms.

The high genetic diversity of rear-edge refugia populations is predicted to have resulted from species repeatedly migrating to low latitudes during glacial periods over the course of Quaternary climate change. However, several recent empirical studies of cold-tolerant plants revealed the opposite pattern. Sn-aminoclay (SnAC)-templated FeO nanocomposites (SnAC-FeO) were prepared through a facile approach. The morphology and macro-architecture of the fabricated SnAC-FeO nanocomposites were characterized by different techniques. A constructed meso/macro-porous structure arising from the homogeneous dispersion of FeO NPs on the SnAC surface owing to inherent NH functional groups provides new conductive channels for high-efficiency electron transport and ion diffusion.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of blue honeysuckle (BH) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced acute hepatic damage in mice.
