Purpose: Urinary retention (UR) is common in older patients. The aim of this observational cohort study was to measure the prevalence of UR in patients aged ≥ 75 years on admission to an acute geriatric hospitalisation unit and to determine which at risk group would benefit from screening.
Methods: Post-void residual volumes (PVR) were measured within 3 days of admission with an ultrasound bladder scan.

No reliable, non-invasive biomarker of metastatic breast cancer (mBC) exists: circulating CA15-3 (cCA15-3) is the marker mostly used to monitor mBC. Circulating collagen IV (cCOLIV) has been evaluated in other metastatic cancers and has been found to be a promising biomarker. The overarching aim of this study was to evaluate cCOLIV as a potential biomarker in patients with mBC.

Purpose: In this retrospective study the relationship between cochleovestibular function and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI-) based classification system of endolymphatic hydrops was investigated.
Methods: Seventy-eight patients with unilateral definite Menière's disease who underwent MRI were included. The parameters of Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA), caloric irrigation test, cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials, and video Head Impulse Test were compared between the grades of endolymphatic hydrops (EH) and perilymphatic enhancement (PE) on MRI.

Background: The peak of the global COVID-19 pandemic has not yet been reached, and many countries face the prospect of a second wave of infections before effective vaccinations will be available. After an initial phase of viral replication, some patients develop a second illness phase in which the host thrombotic and inflammatory responses seem to drive complications. Severe COVID-19 disease is linked to high mortality, hyperinflammation, and a remarkably high incidence of thrombotic events.

Background: Distal tibialis anterior tendinopathy (DTAT) is condition which is infrequently described in literature and is usually treated with conservative means. If resistant to a rehabilitation protocol and unloading, a surgical treatment could be proposed. The aim of this research is to report on the history and clinical image of DTAT and present the clinical results of a simple surgical decompression of the tendon with local debridement and release of the distal extensor retinaculum.

The aims of the 'Mobile-based lifestyle intervention in women with glucose intolerance after gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)' study (MELINDA) are: (1) to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of glucose intolerance after a recent history of GDM; and (2) to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of a telephone- and mobile-based lifestyle intervention in women with glucose intolerance after GDM. This is a Belgian multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) in seven hospitals with the aim of recruiting 236 women. Women in the intervention group will receive a blended program, based on one face-to-face education session and further follow-up through a mobile application and monthly telephone advice.

The histopathological growth patterns (HGPs) of liver metastases of colorectal cancer and of several other tumor types predict outcome of patients in multiple studies. The HGPs of liver metastases have a prognostic but also a predictive value with one of the growth patterns, the replacement growth pattern, related to resistance to systemic treatment. Given that the HGP can only be assessed in a reliable manner when a surgical resection of the metastasis has been performed, this biomarker cannot be exploited to the full.

Objectives: To assess the incidence and onset of cochlear obliteration after translabyrinthine and retrosigmoid vestibular schwannoma surgery.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively identified a consecutive series of eighty ears in eighty vestibular schwannoma patients who were treated via a translabyrinthine or retrosigmoid approach by a single neuro-otological surgical team in a tertiary referral center from May 2011 to January 2018. Postoperative, high- resolution T2-weighted turbo spin echo three-dimensional magnetic resonance (MR) images of the posterior fossa were evaluated at the level of the membranous labyrinth and internal auditory canal.

Eftilagimod alpha (IMP321), a soluble dimeric recombinant form of LAG-3, is a first-in-class antigen presenting cell activator under clinical development. By stimulating dendritic cells through MHC class II molecules, IMP321 was proven to induce sustained immune responses. Combining active immunotherapy with a standard cytotoxic chemotherapy regimen represents a promising novel strategy that might lead to therapeutic improvements in metastatic breast cancer.

Mutations and splice variants in the estrogen receptor (ER) gene, ESR1, may yield endocrine resistance in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. These putative endocrine resistance markers are likely to emerge during treatment, and therefore, its detection in liquid biopsies, such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cell-free DNA (cfDNA), is of great interest. This research aimed to determine whether ESR1 mutations and splice variants occur more frequently in CTCs of MBC patients progressing on endocrine treatment.

We report the imaging features of a case of a temporal bone meningioma extending into the middle ear cavity and clinically presenting as a serous otitis media. Temporal bone meningioma extending in the mastoid or the middle ear cavity, however, is very rare. In case of unexplained or therapy-resistant serous otitis media and a nasopharyngeal tumor being ruled out, a temporal bone computed tomography (CT) should be performed.

We report a case of a young woman with an aberrant right internal carotid artery (ICA) presenting as a retrotympanic reddish mass. This variant of the ICA represents the collateral pathway that is formed as a result of an embryological agenesis of the cervical segment of the ICA. The embryonic inferior tympanic artery is recruited to bypass the absent carotid segment.
