Background: Existing evidence suggests a relation between cardiovascular dysfunction and diminished ovarian reserve. While it is known that pre-existent cardiovascular dysfunction is also associated with the development of preeclampsia (PE) during pregnancy, we hypothesize that signs of diminished ovarian reserve may occur more frequently among women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). The aim of our study was therefore to analyse if women with a history of HDP show signs of diminished ovarian reserve, represented by lower anti-Mullarian hormone (AMH) levels, compared to controls.

Aim: The aim was to explore how findings of whole-body MRI including diffusion-weighted imaging (DW-MRI) compared to the routine diagnostic workup with CT and/or F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/CT in patients with suspected recurrent colorectal cancer (CRC).

Method: This was an exploratory retrospective analysis of 55 patients with a clinical suspicion of recurrent CRC who underwent DW-MRI following CT and/or FDG-PET/CT. Two readers in consensus interpreted all clinical imaging reports and converted each described lesion into a confidence score (1 = definitely benign to 5 = definitely malignant).

Patient-derived glioblastoma organoids reflect tumor heterogeneity and treatment sensitivity.

Neurooncol Adv

November 2023

Department of Radiation Oncology (Maastro), GROW School for Oncology and Reproduction, Maastricht University Medical Centre, Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on glioblastoma (GBM), a dangerous brain cancer, and how patient-derived cancer organoids (PGOs) can help understand how tumors respond to treatments and why they sometimes don't work.
  • - Researchers created PGOs from GBM samples and tested how they respond to a cancer drug called temozolomide (TMZ), finding that different organoids had different reactions based on their unique genetic traits.
  • - The results show that PGOs can keep the important genetic differences of the tumors and could be used in the future to tailor treatments to individual patients and discover new drug targets.
