Evaluation of KIAA1549::BRAF fusions and clinicopathological insights of pilocytic astrocytomas.

Background: Pilocytic astrocytoma (PAs) represents a significant portion of childhood primary brain tumors, with distinct histological and radiological features. The prevalence of KIAA1549::BRAF fusion in PAs has been well-established, this study aims to assess the prevalence of KIAA1549::BRAF fusions and explore their associations with tumor characteristics, radiological findings, and patient outcomes in PAs.

Methods: Histologically confirmed cases of PAs from a 5-year period were included in the study.

Access to Affordable Health: A Care Delivery Model of GNRC Hospitals in North-Eastern India.

Introduction: The healthcare delivery system of Assam faces several challenges to provide affordable, accessible and quality care services. GNRC (Guwahati Neurological Research Center) is the first super-speciality hospital to address many of these gaps by delivering integrated affordable healthcare services to the populations of Assam and other parts of North-eastern India.

Description & Discussion: This paper describes the implementation of a care delivery model which provides integrated care delivery services through linking hospitals to primary healthcare services, including preventive, promotive, and curative care, along with delivering easily accessible and affordable care to the people of Assam and other parts of North-eastern India.

Cervical Trident-Shaped Neurofibroma: A Rare Variant.

Spinal nerve root tumors can arise throughout the spine and at multiple levels, likely representing plexiform neurofibromas that grow from the nerve root into the intraspinal space either intradurally or epidurally and exit through the neural foramen, producing a dumbbell-shaped appearance. Although many cases of dumbbell-shaped extramedullary neurofibromas in the cervical spine have been reported, to the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of trident-shaped extramedullary neurofibromas. Oxidative stress-A key determinant of complications and negative outcome in hepatitis E virus infected pregnancies: A comprehensive account involving cases from northeast India.

Regulated oxidative stress (OS) is important during pregnancy. Sporadic studies suggest the significance of deregulated OS in hepatitis E virus (HEV) infected pregnancy, but with limited reactive oxygen species (ROS) or antioxidant markers. The present novel study, therefore, aimed to evaluate the significance of ROS-antioxidant imbalance and resulting altered OS in HEV infected pregnancy complications like preterm delivery (PTD) and outcome.

Dengue virus serotypes and genotypic characterization from northeast India.

Dengue is a rapidly spreading acute arboviral infection transmitted through a human and Aedes mosquito cycle. Though northeast region of India has been experiencing dengue outbreaks regularly for over a decade, reports on genetic characterization of the virus from this region are limited. The present study was undertaken to detect the genotype and genetic composition of circulating dengue virus (DENV) in this region.

Reference Ranges for Serum Uric Acid among Healthy Assamese People.

This study was designed to establish reference ranges for serum uric acid among healthy adult Assamese population. A community based study of the relationship between homocysteine and some of the life style factors.

Till date no community based data on plasma homocysteine is available in North Eastern Region. Hence, the present study was conducted to analyze and correlate the plasma homocysteine level with some life style factors like diet, alcohol intake, smoking habit and body weight, in a cross-section of population. 12 h fasting samples of 970 apparently healthy, Assamese population of both genders in the age group of 35-86 years, mostly from the urban area of Assam were tested for plasma total homocysteine level over a period of 3 years.
