Phenotypic plasticity plays an essential role in adaptive evolution. However, the molecular mechanisms of how genotype-by-environment interaction (G × E) effects shape phenotypic plasticity in marine organisms remain poorly understood. The crucial temperature-responsive trait triacylglycerol (TAG) content and its major gene adipose triglyceride lipase (Atgl) expression have divergent plastic patterns in two congeneric oyster species (Crassostrea gigas and Crassostrea angulata) to adapt to relative-cold/northern and relative-warm/southern habitats, respectively.

HFC-23 (trifluoromethane) is a potent greenhouse gas released to the atmosphere primarily as a by-product of HCFC-22 (chlorodifluoromethane) synthesis. Since 2020, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol has required Parties to destroy their HFC-23 emissions to the extent possible. Here, we present updated HFC-23 emissions estimated from atmospheric observations.

Novel flame retardants (NFRs) have emerged as chemicals of environmental health concern due to their widespread use as an alternative to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic devices. Humans and ecosystems are under threat because of e-waste recycling procedures that may emit NFRs and other anthropogenic chemicals into the e-waste workplace and the surrounding environment. The individual toxicity of NFRs including novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs), their combined effects and the underlying mechanisms of toxicity have remained poorly understood.

Bromine is a significant environmental threat due to its corrosive nature and contribution to ozone layer depletion. It often coexists with iodine and forms interhalogen complexes (IBr), which require an effective and selective bromine adsorption strategy. Leveraging the electrophilic nature of bromine, we designed an electron-rich thiophene-based porous organic polymer (POF-2).

Molecular frameworks have recently shown a great potential in atmospheric water harvesting, in which the water release at low temperatures is challenging. Anion-organic frameworks based on anion-coordination chemistry are presented herein to meet this challenge. These frameworks are prepared as tubular single crystals in pure water from the in situ protonation and crystallization of pyridine-terminated triphenylamine derivatives with hydrochloric or hydrobromic acid.

Background And Aim: Identifying the factors contributing to the progression of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), a lifestyle-related disease, is crucial for preventing future liver-related deaths. This study aimed to epidemiologically investigate factors, including single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels >30 U/L and potential risk factors for liver fibrosis, in a general population cohort of patients with MASLD.
Methods: Among 1059 participants in the health checkup project, 228 who were diagnosed with MASLD were analyzed.

Background Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is a key enzyme selectively expressed in unstable, rupture-prone atherosclerotic plaques. Previous research has established a strong link between the gene and the development of coronary artery disease (CAD). While traditional risk factors like cholesterol levels and blood pressure are valuable, there remains a need for more specific biomarkers to identify individuals at heightened risk of atherosclerosis before the onset of clinical symptoms.

Successful subscapularis repair in stemless shoulder arthroplasty is crucial to reduce complications and improve postoperative function. As stemless shoulder arthroplasty continues to grow in popularity, several subscapularis tendon repair techniques are being developed, with a current trend toward knotless devices and double-row anchor-based constructs. In this article, we present our technique for repair of a subscapularis tendon peel using a suture-capture construct that aids in compression of the tendon onto its footprint and then gradually releases the tension as the capture resorbs and tendon healing occurs.

This paper discusses the controlled morphology of hierarchical liquid crystalline DNA assemblies. Through a process of heating and slow cooling, double-stranded DNAs (dsDNAs) having 23 complementary bases and two base overhangs (a pair of 25mer oligonucleotides) spontaneously assemble into micro-sized hexagonal platelets in a solution containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and salt. Remarkably, the addition of a shorter dsDNA with AA/TT overhangs (a pair of 18mer oligonucleotides) to a PEG-salt solution of 25mer DNA with AA/TT overhangs results in the formation of molecular tubes, each with a central blockage.

We sought to characterize cellular composition across the cardiovascular system of the healthy Wistar rat, an important model in preclinical cardiovascular research. We performed single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) in 78 samples in 10 distinct regions, including the four chambers of the heart, ventricular septum, sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, aorta, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary veins, which produced 505,835 nuclei. We identified 26 distinct cell types and additional subtypes, with different cellular composition across cardiac regions and tissue-specific transcription for each cell type.

To address the problems of ecological pollution and food safety caused by the excessive use of chemical fertilizers in modern agriculture, it has become a hot topic of current research to develop novel low-cost, biodegradable, and efficient gel slow-release fertilizers. Herein, using xanthan gum and ZrMOF as raw materials, urea as a nutrient, acrylic acid and itaconic acid as co-monomers, a novel ZrMOF gel slow-release fertilizer (ZrMOF@CpM) was prepared by free radical copolymerization. After being characterized, its swelling and water retention properties and slow-release behavior were investigated.

Hydrogels are promising wound dressings due to their extracellular matrix-like properties and tunable structure-function characteristics. Besides the physical isolation effect, hydrogel dressings are highly expected to possess tissue-adhesive performance and antibacterial capacity, which are beneficial for their clinical translations. Herein, a guar gum (GG)-based nanocomposite hydrogel was fabricated by mixing methacrylated GG (GGMA), acrylic acid, acrylated 3-aminophenylboronic acid, mangiferin (MF)-loaded cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) micelles (MF@CTAC) and radical initiator.
