Infections remain the leading cause of mortality among neutropenic patients with haematologic malignancies, making effective infection management crucial. Achieving a sufficient neutrophil count is essential for the elimination of pathogens. Granulocyte concentrate (GC) can be a treatment option for neutropenic patients with severe infections.

Craniosynostosis (CS) is the premature fusion of skull sutures, with all sutures except the metopic suture typically fusing in adulthood. Premature fusion constrains brain growth, leading to abnormal skull shape and potential neurocognitive or neurological issues, along with syndromic features in some cases. While CS is rare, its occurrence in siblings is exceptionally uncommon and holds significant academic importance.

Background: Although evidence supports the improved safety profile of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) over warfarin (WF), outcomes among elderly traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients on this regimen remain unclear. This study describes the association between anticoagulation status (DOAC vs. WF use) and the rates of occurrence of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), hematoma progression, need for surgical intervention and mortality in elderly TBI cases.

Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) is a neuropathological condition characterized by demyelination and necrosis of the corpus callosum. This condition is commonly found in malnourished and alcoholic patients, but it is rarely observed in non-alcoholic individuals. In this case report, we describe a non-alcoholic patient who underwent two consecutive gastrointestinal surgeries.

The interaction between germ cells and somatic cells in the ovaries plays a crucial role in establishing the follicle reserve in mammals. Turner syndrome (TS) predominantly affects females who have a partial or complete loss of one X chromosome. Our understanding of the role that granulosa cells (GCs) play in TS disease progression and pathogenesis remains limited.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is highly prevalent in women of reproductive age worldwide, exhibits highly heterogeneous clinical presentation and biochemical parameters, and has no cure. This study aimed to investigate the role of miR-34a-5p in PCOS, its effect on glycolysis in granulosa cells (GCs), and its potential contribution to follicular dysregulation.
Methods: Herein, Follicular follicular fluid (FF) samples were collected from six patients with PCOS and six healthy controls undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer.

Objective: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with a significantly increased risk of various cardiovascular and thromboembolic events. Existing studies suggest an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in GCA, but results vary. This meta-analysis aims to quantify the association between GCA and the risk of various cardiovascular outcomes, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the cardiovascular burden in patients with GCA.

The most severe stage of TBIs is diffuse axonal injury and swelling affecting the whole brain. Management strategies are based on the classification of TBIs by severity and type and range from cognitive therapy sessions to complex surgeries.

Objective: Neuroendoscopic surgery (NES) has been proven to be safe and effective in hematoma evacuation for cerebral hemorrhage. However, its efficacy for thalamic hemorrhage accompanied by intraventricular hematoma (THAVH) remains unclear. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of NES in treating THAVH.

Background: Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is the most common acquired heart disease in dogs. Mitral valvuloplasty (MVP) addresses regurgitation, but the pre- and postoperative changes in myocardial function remain uncertain.
Objectives: This study evaluated myocardial motion before and after MVP using two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE).

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common complication of glucocorticoid (GC) therapy. Recent advances demonstrate that sympathetic nerves regulate bone homeostasis, and GCs lower the sympathetic tone. Here, we show that the dramatically decreased sympathetic tone is closely associated with the pathogenesis of GC-induced ONFH.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by the synovitis and bone erosion. The combination therapy of glucocorticoids (GCs) and methotrexate (MTX) is recommended in early RA management, although the precise underlying mechanism of action remains unclear. This study is aimed to clarify the mechanism of MTX in combined with GC in treating RA.

Background: Slum communities face health risks influenced by environmental, human, and animal health factors, particularly antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Tailored, community-driven solutions are needed to address these multifactorial health determinants. This study explores One Health challenges in urban slums using a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) approach.

Introduction: Open traumatic brain injury (OTBI) is associated with high mortality and morbidity; however, the classification of these injuries and the determination of patient prognosis remain uncertain, hindering the selection of optimal treatment strategies. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel OTBI classification system and a prognostic model for poor prognosis.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients with isolated OTBI who received treatment at three large medical centers in China between January 2020 and June 2022 as the training set.

Introduction: In stable children with penetrating abdominal trauma, literature regarding the use of laparoscopy (LAP) remains limited. Given increasing evidence in favor of LAP for selective adult trauma patients, we reviewed contemporary practices and outcomes in pediatric trauma patients.
Methods: The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Quality Programs data was utilized to identify children (<18 years) from 2016 to 2021 with a penetrating abdominal injury who underwent surgery within 24 h of admission.

Decreased nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) content has been shown to contribute to metabolic dysfunction during aging, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the effect of NAD on ovulatory dysfunction in PCOS by regulating glycolysis has not been reported. Based on the observations of granulosa cells (GCs) transcriptome data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, the signal pathways including glycolysis and nicotinate-nicotinamide metabolism were significantly enriched, and most genes of the above pathway like LDHA and SIRT2 were down-regulated in PCOS patients.
