Effect of tulle on the mechanical properties of a maxillofacial silicone elastomer.

The purpose of this research was to investigate if physical properties could be improved by incorporating a tulle reinforcement material into a maxillofacial silicone elastomer. A-2186 silicone elastomer was used in this study. The study group consisted of 20 elastomer specimens incorporated with tulle and fabricated in dumbbell-shaped silicone patterns using ASTM D412 and D624 standards.

Cleft palate is a commonly observed congenital maxillofacial defect. One of the most important problems with clefts is the interference with feeding. An affected infant cannot produce negative pressure in the oral cavity and therefore cannot move the bolus backward to the pharynx.

Carotid and coronary artery occlusion in a patient with Takayasu arteritis.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory disease involving the aorta and its principal branches, leading to narrowing and occlusion of the vessels. Since the clinical manifestations depend on the location and severity of the lesions, stroke may be the initial presentation of the disease. Here we report the case of a young man with TA and complete thrombotic occlusion of the right common carotid artery who underwent surgical intervention at our institution.

Facilitation of facial prosthesis placement with tattoo markers: a clinical report.

Repeated application may be hindered when none of these references is present.

Transcutaneous axillary artery cannulation.

The axillary artery may be an alternative cannulation site for patients with diffused atherosclerosis, aortic dissection, and aneurysm. There are different techniques for axillary artery cannulation that can be performed easily with a transcutaneous approach. Small incision necessity, less dissection, and good wound healing are other advantages of this technique.

A simple atraumatic clamp technique without a stabilizer in off-pump CABG: how to do it.

A method of stabilization of the heart and the coronary artery during the construction of the distal anastomosis in coronary artery procedures without cardiopulmonary bypass is described. The technique exposes and immobilizes the coronary artery, allowing a precise anastomosis on the beating heart. In addition, it is simple, safe, and inexpensive.
