The presence of strong G x E (genotype by environment interaction) is a major hurdle for selecting superior genotypes when genotypes are placed into new and unfamiliar production systems. Genotype or cultivar (s) with high yield potential and having less adaptability and stability to particular environment is never a suitable choice for a breeder and farmer particularly. Purposefully, four successive seasons were chosen to enumerate the phenotypic stability of 27 French bean genotypes for yield and quality traits by involving modern statistical tools like AMMI (Additive Main Effect and Multiplicative Interaction), GGE [G + (G x E)] and cluster analysis.

We report a new spectroscopic detection scheme for molecular oxygen that achieves roughly two orders of magnitude higher sensitivity for fully rotationally resolved spectra than the current state of the art. Two-color (2 + 1') resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) via the 3 Rydberg complex yields state-selective spectra with signal comparable to the intense but diffuse 3σ Π ← Σ (2 + 1) REMPI bands without significant saturation or broadening. The resulting increase in sensitivity permitted observation of the very weak 3π Δ ← Σ transitions and is independent of the intermediate state.

Department of Chemistry, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, 45110, Greece; Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, University Research and Innovation Center, Ioannina 45110, Greece. Electronic address:

The presence of emerging contaminants in environmental aqueous matrices is an ever-growing problem, since conventional wastewater treatment methods fail to adequately remove them. Therefore, the application of non-conventional methodologies such as advanced oxidation processes is of great importance to tackle this modern problem. Photocatalysis as well as catalytic activation of persulfates are promising techniques in this field as they are capable of eliminating various emerging contaminants, and current research aims to develop new materials that can be utilized for both processes.

Local adaptation of populations results from an interplay between their environment and genetics. If functional trait variation influences plant performance, populations can adapt to their local environment. However, populations may also respond plastically to environmental challenges, altering phenotype without shifting allele frequencies.

The cytochrome P450 family consists of ubiquitous monooxygenases with the potential to perform a wide variety of catalytic applications. Among the members of this family, CYP116B5hd shows a very prominent resistance to peracid damage, a property that makes it a promising tool for fine chemical synthesis using the peroxide shunt. In this meticulous study, we use hyperfine spectroscopy with a multifrequency approach (X- and Q-band) to characterize in detail the electronic structure of the heme iron of CYP116B5hd in the resting state, which provides structural details about its active site.

Human access to space is expanding rapidly in the commercial environment, with various private companies offering commercial flights to spaceflight participants (SFPs). SFPs are more likely than career astronauts to have medical conditions novel to spaceflight and may not have undergone as rigorous a medical screening process as that used for career astronauts, representing new and unstudied risks in the spaceflight environment. We report participation of a subject with recent median sternotomy for aortic valve replacement and atrial septal defect closure in centrifuge-simulated dynamic phases of orbital and suborbital spaceflight.

Hypoxia-induced radioresistance reduces the efficacy of radiotherapy for solid malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Cellular hypoxia can confer radioresistance through cellular and tumor micro-environment adaptations. Until recently, studies evaluating radioresistance secondary to hypoxia were designed to maintain cellular hypoxia only before and during irradiation, while any handling of post-irradiated cells was carried out in standard oxic conditions due to the unavailability of hypoxia workstations.

The interaction between photochromic 8-methoxy-1',3',3'-trimethyl-6-nitro-spiro[chromene-2,2'-indole] (MNSP) and cobalt(II) hexafluoroacetylacetonate yields a deep red-violet solution due to the coordination-induced transition of MNSP from a colorless closed state to a colored open merocyanine (MC) form. The resulting complex {Co(hfac)·MNSP} (1) is obtained as crystals, and its structure at 250 K shows the coordination of two oxygen atoms from MNSP with Co, forming a distorted octahedral surrounding around Co. The unit cell of 1 contracts below 170 K by 5.
