Int J Lab Hematol

October 2022

Second Neonatal Department and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, "Papageorgiou" Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece.

Introduction: The aim of our study was to establish reference ranges for neonatal coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters and to investigate their relationship with gestational age (GA) and birth weight (BW).

Methods: A single-centre prospective study was conducted in all healthy neonates born in our hospital during the study period, excluding those with maternal or neonatal disorders and diseases that affect haemostasis. The following parameters were measured: fibrinogen, prothrombin time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) as well as factors II, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI and XII, von Willebrand (vWF), protein C, free protein S, antithrombin (AT), activated protein C resistance (APCr), tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1).

2nd Department of Pediatric Surgery, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece, General Hospital 'Papageorgiou', Thessaloniki, Greece.

Degloving injury of penis and scrotum is very rare in child population and requires early reconstructive surgery for good outcomes. We report a 10-year-old boy with complete avulsion of the scrotum and partial of the penis caused by a bicycle chain due to off-road bicycling. The patient has been treated successfully with a single-staged surgery.

Abnormal Responsiveness to Dexamethasone-Suppressed CRH Test in Patients With Bilateral Adrenal Incidentalomas.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

September 2015

Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism (D.A.V., M.T., V.T., E.M., M.T., S.T.), Evangelismos Hospital, 10676 Athens, Greece; and Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism (N.M., G.P.), G. Genimatas Hospital, 11527 Athens, Greece.

Context: The bilateral formation of nodules indicates that the pathogenesis of bilateral adrenal incidentalomas (AI) may differ from that of unilateral AI. A possible role of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysregulation in their formation has not been investigated.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the presence of altered feedback regulation of HPA axis in patients with bilateral AI.

The clinical course of our patient, who sustained remission status for at least 18 months highlights the chance of long-term hormonal and tumor remission and demonstrates the efficacy and safety of discontinuation of temozolomide therapy. Prospective studies are required in order to define predictors of long-term remission of this promising therapeutic modality.

With the advent of modern imaging modalities, endocrine incidentalomas are increasingly being discovered. We aimed to investigate the presence of pituitary incidentalomas (PI) in patients with adrenal incidentalomas (AI), and identify potential metabolic correlates in this cohort. 26 patients (18 females) with AI discovered on abdominal computerized tomography were studied.

Objectives: The objectives are to present the long-term results of vaginal reconstructive operations using the labial fat pad flap (Martius flap) interposition.

Patients And Methods: Eight women, 27-65 years old (mean 40), suffering from urinary fistulae (five urethrovaginal and three vesicovaginal) who failed primary repair underwent salvage vaginal reconstruction for damaged urethra or bladder. Urethral or bladder and vaginal defect was closed and a Martius fat flap was interposed between urethra or bladder and vaginal wall flap to secure a watertight separation of the structures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the long-term effects of inserting a capsular tension ring (CTR) in patients with large traumatic zonular dialysis who underwent cataract surgery.
  • A total of 17 eyes were analyzed over an average follow-up of 25.9 months, with no instances of capsule collapse and generally improved visual acuity, except in one case due to other eye issues.
  • The findings suggest that using a CTR is a safe and effective method to prevent intraocular lens decentration in these complicated cataract cases.
