Chronic spontaneous urticaria or autoinflammatory disease? The therapeutic effect of omalizumab in a pediatric patient.

Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a clinical condition characterized by spontaneous or inducible recurrent wheals. This condition may significantly affect quality of life of patients and of their families. Etiology is not identified in 25-85% of cases that are indicated as 'idiopathic', because all diagnostic tests are negative.

Safety of Oats in Children with Celiac Disease: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term validity and safety of pure oats in the treatment of children with celiac disease.

Study Design: This noninferiority clinical trial used a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover design extended over 15 months. Three hundred six children with a biopsy-proven diagnosis of celiac disease on a gluten-free diet for ≥2 years were randomly assigned to eat specifically prepared gluten-free food containing an age-dependent amount (15-40 g) of either placebo or purified nonreactive varieties of oats for 2 consecutive 6-month periods separated by washout standard gluten-free diet for 3 months.

Merlin, the product of NF2 gene, is associated with aromatase expression and estrogen formation in human liver tissues and liver cancer cells.

The product of neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) gene, also known as Merlin/neurofibromin 2, homeostatically regulates liver stem cells by controlling abundance and signaling of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), with a mechanism independent of the Hippo pathway. We have reported that locally elevated estrogen formation, driven by abnormally high expression and function of aromatase, may be implicated in development and progression of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through activation of a rapid signaling pathway mediated by amphiregulin (AREG) and EGFR. We have recently presented a model by which the aromatase-estrogen-amphiregulin-EGFR axis is activated in response to tissue injury and/or inflammatory disease, with its alteration eventually leading to development of major human tumors (liver, breast, prostate) and other chronic diseases (diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's and heart disease).

Hodgkin lymphoma and nephrotic syndrome in childhood.

An association between nephrotic syndrome and extrarenal neoplasia was described for the first time in 1922. Since then a large number of cases have been published, few of them describing the link between Hodgkin disease (HD) and nephrotic syndrome (NS). It shows that the incidence of nephrotic syndrome in Hodgkin lymphoma is less than 1%.
