Erdheim-Chester disease: a comprehensive review from the ophthalmologic perspective.

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare clonal histiocytic neoplasm with less than 1200 documented cases to date. The disease is life-threatening and difficult to recognize, although increasing awareness as well as the integration of clinical, imaging, pathology information, and genetic studies have led to a recent exponential increase in new reported cases. ECD affects multiple organs and systems, including skeletal, neurologic, and cardiovascular.

Hybrid angioplasty-catheter placement procedure performed in a hemodialysis patient with central venous obstruction disease. Presentation of a case.

Obstruction or occlusion of the central veins (Central venous disease, CVD) represents a major complication in hemodialysis patients (HD) limiting central venous access available for a central venous catheter placement. Endovascular treatment with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is the first therapeutic option to restore patency and gain access. This case presents our initial experience of a HD patient with CVD treated with a combination therapy of a balloon PTA to the left brachiocephalic trunk, through the right hepatic vein and standard catheter placement technique to the previously occluded junction of the left internal jugular vein to the left subclavian vein.

Epstein-Barr Encephalitis in a Child with Congenital Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection: A Case Report Calling for No Forgetfulness.

Background: In resource-rich settings, the rate of mother-to-child transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has dramatically decreased by virtue of a combination of preventive strategies during the last two decades.

Case Presentation: We present a case of progressive developmental milestone loss in a toddler with previously unknown congenitally acquired human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, complicated by an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) coinfection.

Conclusion: Our report underscores the differential diagnosis between HIV encephalopathy and EBV encephalitis and the vertical transmission of the HIV infection, which constitutes an alarming issue in terms of public health.

Combined Type III and Type II Endoleaks after Endovascular Aneurysm Repair: Presentation of 2 Cases and a Literature Review.

Although endovascular aneurysm repair is a feasible option for high-risk patients resulting in lower perioperative mortality when compared with open repair, the need for reintervention and long-term follow-up affects its use. The aim of the current report is to present 2 cases of patients with type IIIa endoleak from limb disconnection (one patient with double-bilateral endoleak) combined with a late type II endoleak and symptomatic sac growth treated in our department. We also performed a literature review about type III endoleaks and their treatment options.

Taxane Induced Cystoid Macular Edema: Case Report and Integrated Pathogenic Theory.

Purpose: To report a case of a 73-year-old man who presented with decreased visual acuity due to bilateral macular edema after paclitaxel administration for prostate cancer.

Methods: The ophthalmic evaluation consisted of medical and ocular history, Best Corrected Visual Acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy and Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography / Fluorescein Angiography.

Results: Optical Coherence Tomography and Fluorescein Angiography revealed silent cystoid macular edema.

OCT-Angiography for monitoring and managing neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Purpose: To evaluate the combined use of optical coherence tomography and angiography (OCT-A) for imaging choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).

Materials And Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted from May 2015 to April 2017. Included in the study were 54 patients (n = 63 eyes), all of whom had CNV secondary to nAMD and all of whom had been examined by OCT-A.

Lengthening Over an Existing Intramedullary Nail In Cases of Post-traumatic Femoral Shortening. Technical Note. Case Series Study.

Background: Intramedullary (IM) nailing is the method of choice for the treatment of most femoral shaft fractures. However, despite successful solid union, great initial fracture comminution can lead to significant leg length discrepancy affecting normal gait mechanics. Femoral osteotomy and distraction osteogenesis over the pre-existing IM nail could restore this limb inequality.

We report a rare case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment due to a full-thickness macular hole in a young patient with pars planitis. This study was an interventional case report. A 38-year-old Asian man presented with acute reduction of vision in his left eye.

Giant popliteal artery aneurysm: case report and review of the literature.

Popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) are rare in general population but represent the second most common peripheral arterial aneurysms following those located in the aortoiliac segment. They usually affect men over 60 years old with established cardiovascular disease caused by atherosclerosis. Other more unusual conditions such as trauma, congenital popliteal aneurysm, mycotic aneurysm, inflammatory arteritis, or popliteal entrapment are responsible.

Case report: Primary pituitary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma developed following surgery and radiation of a pituitary macroadenoma.

Objective: Primary central nervous system (CNS) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a rarely encountered clinical entity. Here we present a case of a primary CNS diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma developed on a previously operated and irradiated pituitary macroadenoma. DESIGN-RESULTS: A 60-year-old woman presented with muscle weakness and eye lid ptosis.

Optic disc pit maculopathy treated with vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling, and gas tamponade: a report of two cases.

Purpose: Two cases with optic disc pit associated maculopathy, treated with vitrectomy surgery with internal limiting membrane peeling (ILM) and gas tamponade, are presented.

Methods: Interventional case reports.

Results: Two patients with serous macular detachment associated with a congenital optic pit underwent vitrectomy surgery, induction of posterior vitreous detachment, peeling of the ILM, and gas tamponade.

Retinal detachment due to a macular hole in a patient with Behcet disease treated with vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade.

Purpose: A rare case of unilateral retinal detachment due to a macular hole in a patient with Behçet disease is presented.

Methods: Interventional case report.

Results: A 31-year-old man with a 6-year history of Behçet disease presented with a relapse in his disease and received infliximab.

Langerhans' cell histiocytosis in an adult patient manifested as recurrent skull lesions and Diabetes Insipidus.

We describe a 57-year old female with the diagnosis of skull and meningeal Langerhans' cell histiocytosis who was treated with the combination of azathioprine and methotrexate. Although the skull lesions improved considerably on this regimen, the patient developed diabetes insipidus while the anterior pituitary function remained intact.

Successful treatment of multiple myeloma relapsing after high-dose therapy and autologous transplantation with thalidomide as a single agent.

A 52-year-old dentist with kappa light chain multiple myeloma relapsed 6 months after 180 mg/m2 melphalan and an autograft. A partial remission had been attained after the autograft. Relapse occurred while he was on dexamethasone maintenance therapy.
