Butein, a rare chalcone found in the toxic plant , has been shown to regulate glucose homeostasis via inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta (IKKβ)/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway in the brain. Here, we investigated whether the nonpoisonous plant could be a source of butein as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes (T2D). In mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) to induce glucose intolerance, an oral petal extract improved glucose tolerance at doses of 3.

Aim: Pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) is a common condition particularly affecting young men. Females affected by the condition account for about 20% of patients and are rarely mentioned, much less studied specifically. In this study we evaluate the surgical outcomes in a female population following Bascom's cleft lift (BCL) surgery in primary extensive disease, non-healing wounds after previous surgery and recurrent disease in a large Danish cohort from a high-volume centre.

Importance: There are no validated decision rules for terminating resuscitation during in-hospital cardiac arrest. Decision rules may guide termination and prevent inappropriate early termination of resuscitation.
Objective: To develop and validate termination of resuscitation rules for in-hospital cardiac arrest.
Aims: With the recently validated tool for estimating chronic pain after colorectal cancer surgery, the aims of this study were to calculate the prevalence and to identify predictive risk factors for chronic pain after colorectal cancer treatment.
Method: Clinical data from colorectal cancer patients treated between 2001 and 2014 were obtained from the Danish Colorectal Cancer Group database. In 2016, all survivors were invited to participate in a national cross-sectional questionnaire study on long-term functional outcomes, including the chronic pain questionnaire.

Background Context: Recumbent MRI is the most widely used image modality in people with low back pain (LBP), however, it has been proposed that upright (standing) MRI has advantages over recumbent MRI because of its ability to assess the effects of being weight-bearing. It has been suggested that this produces systematic differences in MRI parameters and differences in the correlation between MRI parameters and pain or disability in patients thus, potentially adding clinically helpful information.
Purpose: This paper aims to review and summarize the available empirical evidence for or against these two hypotheses.

Background: In the era of resistance, the design and search for new "small" molecules with a narrow spectrum of activity that target a protein or enzyme specific to a certain bacterium with high selectivity and minimal side effects remains an urgent problem of medicinal chemistry. In this regard, we developed and successfully implemented a strategy for the search for new hybrid molecules, namely, the not broadly known [2-(3-R-1-[1,2,4]-triazol-5-yl)phenyl]amines. They can act as "building blocks" and allow for the introduction of certain structural motifs into the desired final products in order to enhance the antistaphylococcal effect.

Several studies have suggested that probiotics could play a role in the management of patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP). In this randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of consumption of probiotics containing human DG as an add-on treatment in patients with clinical recurrences of CBP, through gut microbiota modification analysis. Enrolled patients with CBP were randomized to receive for 3 months probiotics containing human DG or placebo following 1 month treatment with ciprofloxacin.

Despite advances in prophylaxis, early diagnosis, and treatment, urogenital cancers represent a significant challenge to public health in Poland due to their relatively high prevalence and mortality rates. This narrative review aims to explore contemporary evidence on the epidemiology of urogenital cancers in Poland, such as prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, and penile cancer, focusing on current and historical status and trends in the broader context of healthcare delivery. The literature consistently indicates that urogenital cancer continues to be a significant contributor to cancer incidence and mortality rates in Poland.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Even though catheter ablation has emerged as an available and effective treatment for AF, recurrence remains a significant challenge. This review presents the existing evidence on the prognostic role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the prediction of AF recurrence after catheter ablation.

The e-STROKE study is a prospective, multicenter observational study designed to assess the impact of various CT parameters (including e-ASPECT, CT perfusion (CTP), collateral flow status, and the size and location of the ischemic lesion) on the clinical outcomes of patients with ischemic stroke, as evaluated by the modified Rankins Scale (mRS) three months post-stroke. This study also aims to investigate whether the use of multimodal CT imaging increases the number of patients eligible for recanalization therapy. The analysis will integrate data from the RES-Q registry and radiological data from the e-STROKE system provided by Brainomix Ltd.

Introduction: CDK4/6 inhibitors in combination with aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are the standard first-line treatment for hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative (HER2-) metastatic breast cancer. Landmark trials have demonstrated a comparable progression-free survival (PFS) across CDK4/6 inhibitors, but the overall survival (OS) outcomes have varied. This study aimed to evaluate the real-world PFS and OS for palbociclib and ribociclib when combined with AIs in patients with HR+/HER2- advanced breast cancer.

Surgery is the cornerstone of vulvar cancer treatment, but it is associated with a significant risk of complications that may impact prognosis, particularly in older patients with multiple comorbidities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of age, comorbidities, and frailty in predicting postoperative complications after vulvar cancer surgery and to develop a predictive nomogram. A retrospective cohort study was conducted, including patients who underwent surgery for vulvar cancer at two Italian institutions from January 2018 to December 2023.

Manual and mechanical ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation are critical yet poorly understood components of resuscitation care. In recent years, intra-arrest ventilation has been the subject of a growing number of laboratory and clinical investigations. Essential components to accurately interpret or reproduce original investigations are the exact measurement and transparent reporting of key ventilation parameters, such as volumes and airway pressures obtained during ongoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
