Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is characterized by an uncomfortable urge to move the legs, worsened in the evening, occurring at rest, and relieved temporarily by movement. Although its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, oxidative stress has been suggested. Uric acid (UA) is a marker associated with oxidative stress, and its reduced levels pose a risk for certain neurodegenerative diseases.

Comparison of Coconut and Sunflower Seed Oils in Improving the Skin Integrity and Weight Gain of Infants in the Neonatal ICU.

Objective: To determine the effects of sunflower seed oil and coconut oil on the skin integrity and weight gain of preterm infants in the neonatal ICU.

Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 66 preterm neonates (34-37 weeks' gestation) in the neonatal ICU of a training and research hospital were equally divided into three groups: sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, and control. The weights of neonates in all three groups were measured at admission to the neonatal ICU, at discharge, and at 1 month postdischarge.

Surgical treatment of a giant hydatid cyst in the interventricular septum.

The surgical procedure detailed in this case report focuses on the treatment of a large cardiac hydatid cyst located in the intraventricular septum. The surgical intervention comprised a comprehensive approach involving a median sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass. A localized mass below the tricuspid valve at the basal region of the interventricular septum was revealed.

This study aims to evaluate and compare patient education materials on rhinosinusitis created by two frequently used chat robots, ChatGPT-4 and Google Gemini.

Method: One hundred nine questions taken from patient information websites were divided into 4 different categories: general knowledge, diagnosis, treatment, surgery and complications, then asked to chat robots.

The Utilization of Acetaminophen for Managing PGE1-Induced Fever in Neonates with Critical Congenital Heart Disease.

Introduction: We aimed to retrospectively evaluate the use of acetaminophen, which may be a risk factor for the ductal canal, in the treatment of fever due to prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) infusion in newborns with critical congenital heart disease (CCHD).

Methods: The study included newborns who were followed-up in our neonatal intensive care unit with the diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease, developed fever due to PGE1 infusion and had acetaminophen administered for antipyretic treatment. The patent ductus arteriosus diameters of the patients were evaluated by echocardiographic imaging before intravenous acetaminophen treatment and at the end of the day of acetaminophen treatment.

Diagnosis of Multiple Organ Dysfunction in Neonates with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy: Vasoactive Inotropic Score, Renal Score, Fibrosis-5 Index and Lactate/Albumin Ratio.

Background: Vasoactive inotrope score, renal score, fibrosis-5 index, and lactate-albumin ratio have not been investigated before in determining multiple organ dysfunctions accompanying infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The aim of this study was to determine whether multiple organ dysfunctions that may accompany HIE in infants are correlated with vasoactive inotrope score (VIS), renal score (RS), fibrosis-5 index (FIB-5), and lactate-albumin ratio (LAR), and whether these parameters can predict morbidity and mortality.

Methods: This is a retrospective study, and 106 newborns diagnosed with HIE and treated with hypothermia were included in the study.

Vascular Injury of Penetrating Trauma of the Extremities.

Physical examination and computed tomography angiography (CTA) are used for diagnosing arterial injury in extremity trauma. In recent years, CTA has been overused to obtain more objective data. Our study aimed to investigate the effect of using CTA for the management of patients with extremity penetrating injuries, specifically in cases where vascular injury was not detected during initial examination.

Introduction: Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is crucial for saving lives when used appropriately. This study aimed to assess TPE's impact on tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) protein and IL-6 levels in critically ill pediatric patients.

Methods: Conducted between May 2022 and December 2022, the study observed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients undergoing TPE, recording demographics, lab results, TWEAK, and IL-6 levels pre- and post-procedure.

Response rates of pazopanib therapy in metastatic soft tissue sarcoma using real‑world data.

The present study was a retrospective single-center study. A total of 81 patients diagnosed with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma were included who received pazopanib therapy. Clinical data, including age at diagnosis, histological subtype, treatments received before pazopanib, number of metastatic sites at the time of initiation of treatment, progression-free survival and overall survival time under pazopanib treatment, side effects and response evaluation in follow-up imaging after initiation of pazopanib therapy, were recorded.

Background/aim: In Türkiye, the recommendations for screening for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) were updated in 2021. Background: To minimize adverse events of peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection in healthy donors, it is reasonable to limit the total dose of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and/or the number of apheresis days without decreasing of PBSCs yield. Therefore, we have started to collect G-CSF induced PBSCs on day 4 instead of on day 5. So, we retrospectively aimed to investigate the results of this 4-day G-CSF administration.
