This study evaluates the redox state in occupationally arsenic-exposed workers (n = 71) by assessing the dynamic serum thiol-disulfide homeostasis. We determined the serum thiol-disulfide homeostasis parameters of exposed workers and controls (n = 43) using a novel automated colorimetric assay. Median urinary As and 8-isoprostane levels of exposed group were significantly higher than control group (16.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether increased carboxyhemoglobin (COHB) levels and ECG changes, which associated with fatal ventricular dysrhythmias, including increased QT, P-wave and T peak (Tp)-Tend (Te) dispersion, can be detected after smoking narghile, which is a traditional method of smoking tobacco that is smoked from hookah device.

Materials And Methods: After local ethics committee approval, this prospective study was conducted using healthy volunteer subjects at a "narghile café," which is used by people smoking narghile in an open area. Before beginning to smoke narghile, all subjects' 12-lead electrocardiographs (ECG), measurements of COHB levels, and vital signs were recorded.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether there is a negative impact as a result of psoriatic arthritis disease of the inner ear function.

Methods: Twenty-four successive patients and 38 healthy volunteers, younger than 60 years of age, who were followed up for at least for one year in the outpatient clinics of physical therapy and rehabilitation with the diagnosis of PsA according to CASPAR criteria (17) and who did not complain of any hearing impairment were included in the study. Distortion-product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) values between 1kHz and 4kHz, tympanometric examination results, stapes reflex values, speech reception threshold (SRT) and speech discrimination (SD) values, pure-tone values between 250 and 8000Hz and high-frequency values between 10,000, 12,500 and 16,000Hz were analyzed.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of topical and systemic enoxaparin sodium on the healing pattern of experimentally induced tympanic membrane perforation and formation of myringosclerosis. A total of 24 Wistar-Albino strain rats were included in the study. Standard myringotomies were performed on each rat.

Purpose: To determine the normative database of macular and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness parameters in healthy Turkish children by OCT.

Methods: 318 eyes of 318 children (138 boys, 183 girls) aged between 3 and 17 years were evaluated. The children were scanned by Cirrus HD-OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec) to measure the macula, RNFL, and optic nerve head parameters.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) and choroidal thickness (CT) measurements in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) and healthy subjects.

Methods: A total of 34 patients (12 male and 22 female) who had type 2 diabetes mellitus with DME and 34 sex-matched healthy subjects (13 male and 21 female) were included in this prospective study. The intraocular pressure (IOP) and OPA were measured with Dynamic contour tonometer (Pascal DCT, Switzerland).

Objective: In the present study, tympanic membranes (TM) harvested from myringotomized rats were analyzed histopathologically to compare the systemic and local effects of ascorbic acid on the development of myringosclerosis.

Materials And Methods: Forty male Wistar-Albino rats weighing between 350-400 g were included in this study. Under otomicroscopic examination, a standard 2-mm myringotomy incision was made on the posteroinferior quadrant of the TM of both ears.

The authors reviewed current knowledge on occurrence, clinical and prognostic significance, and management of sustained ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and bradyarrhythmias in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). Cardiac arrhythmias worsen clinical course and prognosis in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary PCI. Sustained ventricular arrhythmias developing during or early after PCI and associated with mechanical restoration of coronary flow and reperfusion do not affect mortality, whereas those related to incomplete revascularization and ongoing ischemia are associated with poor prognosis.

Background: Many studies have investigated the relationship between blood levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfate ester (DHEA-S), cortisol, progesterone, and testosterone and the onset, prognosis, symptom severity, and treatment response of schizophrenia. In the present study, we assessed potential differences in blood levels of neurosteroids between drug-naïve first-episode patients with schizophrenia (FES), and drug-free patients with schizophrenia who were not in the first episode but were in a phase of acute exacerbation (DFP).

Materials And Methods: The present study included 32 male FES, 28 male DFP, and 24 male healthy controls (HC).

Hospital acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are important health problems. Mortality and morbidity rates associated with MRSA infections are increasing with mortality rates being higher for MRSA bacteremia than the other clinical presentations of MRSA infections. Initiation of treatment immediately and use of appropriate antibacterial agents may lead to better clinical outcomes in MRSA bacteremia.
