Cartilage degradation is an important in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA). Abnormal activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway in chondrocytes promotes an inflammatory response, resulting in the release of chondral matrix-degrading enzymes that accelerate the degradation of cartilage. As a non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive physical therapy regimen, warm sparse-dense wave (WSDW) has been successfully used for the treatment of OA.

National & Local Joint Biomedical Engineering Research Center on Photodynamic Technologies, and Fujian Engineering Research Center of Functional Materials, College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, 350116, China.

Small-molecular-target-based photodynamic therapy-a promising targeted anticancer strategy-was developed by conjugating zinc(II) phthalocyanine with a small-molecular-target-based anticancer drug. To prevent self-aggregation and avoid problems of phthalocyanine isomerization, two silicon phthalocyanines di-substituted axially with erlotinib have been synthesized and fully characterized. These conjugates are present in monomeric form in various solvents as well as culture media.

November 2017

Department of Nephrology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Key Laboratory of Nephrology, Ministry of Health, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China;

Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the most prevalent and serious complications of SLE, with significant effects on patient and renal survival. Although a large number of genetic variants associated with SLE have been identified, biomarkers that correlate with LN are extremely limited. In this study, we performed a comprehensive sequencing analysis of the whole MHC region in 1331 patients with LN and 1296 healthy controls and validated the independent associations in another 950 patients with LN and 1000 controls.

State Key Laboratory of Photocatalysis on Energy and Environment & Fujian Engineering Research Center of Functional Materials, College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University , 2 Xueyuan Road, University Town, Fuzhou 350108, Fujian, P. R. China.

The combination of photodynamic therapy and other cancer treatment modalities is a promising strategy to enhance therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects. In this study, a tamoxifen-zinc(II) phthalocyanine conjugate linked by a triethylene glycol chain has been synthesized and characterized. Having tamoxifen as the targeting moiety, the conjugate shows high specific affinity to MCF-7 breast cancer cells overexpressed estrogen receptors (ERs) and tumor tissues, therefore leading to a cytotoxic effect in the dark due to the cytostatic tamoxifen moiety, and a high photocytotoxicity due to the photosensitizing phthalocyanine unit against the MCF-7 cancer cells.

The limited efficacy of conventional therapies for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has led to the growing interest for identifying potential antigenic targets for immunotherapy. Placenta-specific 1 (PLAC1) is a new member of cancer-testis antigens with restricted expression in normal tissues. Ectopic activation of PLAC1 has been found in different types of cancers, but its role in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains unknown.

MYBL2 (B-MYB), a member of the MYB family of transcription factor genes, regulates the expression of genes in the process of tumorigenesis. Many studies have shown that MYBL2 is high expresssion in several human malignancies including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, its role in PDAC is still unclear.

Preparation and In Vitro Photodynamic Activity of Glucosylated Zinc(II) Phthalocyanines as Underlying Targeting Photosensitizers.

Molecules

May 2017

State Key Laboratory of Photocatalysis on Energy and Environment & National & Local Joint Biomedical Engineering Research Center on Photodynamic Technologies, College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou 350108, China.

Two novel glucosylated zinc(ІІ) phthalocyanines 7a-7b, as well as the acetyl-protected counterparts 6a-6b, have been synthesized by the Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between the propargylated phthalocyanine and azide-substituted glucoses. All of these phthalocyanines were characterized with various spectroscopic methods and studied for their photo-physical, photo-chemical, and photo-biological properties. With glucose as the targeting unit, phthalocyanines 7a-7b exhibit a specific affinity to MCF-7 breast cancer cells over human embryonic lung fibroblast (HELF) cells, showing higher cellular uptake.

Breast cancer is the most frequently occurring cancer in women worldwide, microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical role in the initiation and progression of breast cancer. Here, we studied the effect of miR-455 on cell proliferation of breast cancer, and found that miR-455 was downregulated in breast cancer tissues and cells. Its overexpression inhibited cell proliferation, whereas its knockdown promoted cell proliferation of breast cancer.
