Objective: BTG1 is a member of the TOB/BTG protein family, which is a transducer of ErbB-2 and TOB2. It is known to inhibit tumor genesis, but its role in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is still unknown. The purpose of this study is to investigate the expression of BTG1 protein in PDAC and to determine its prognostic significance.

Cartilage degradation is an important in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA). Abnormal activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway in chondrocytes promotes an inflammatory response, resulting in the release of chondral matrix-degrading enzymes that accelerate the degradation of cartilage. As a non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive physical therapy regimen, warm sparse-dense wave (WSDW) has been successfully used for the treatment of OA.

SIRT3, an important mitochondrial protein, may act as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor depending on the tumor-type. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of SIRT3 in pancreatic carcinoma (PC) and its clinical association in PC patients. Immunohistochemistry was adopted to investigate the expression of SIRT3 in cancer and corrresponding adjacent non-cancer tissues across 79 patients with PC.

As a nonintrusive method, the retina imaging provides us with a better way for the diagnosis of ophthalmologic diseases. Extracting the vessel profile automatically from the retina image is an important step in analyzing retina images. A novel hybrid active contour model is proposed to segment the fundus image automatically in this paper.

Small-molecular-target-based photodynamic therapy-a promising targeted anticancer strategy-was developed by conjugating zinc(II) phthalocyanine with a small-molecular-target-based anticancer drug. To prevent self-aggregation and avoid problems of phthalocyanine isomerization, two silicon phthalocyanines di-substituted axially with erlotinib have been synthesized and fully characterized. These conjugates are present in monomeric form in various solvents as well as culture media.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the most prevalent and serious complications of SLE, with significant effects on patient and renal survival. Although a large number of genetic variants associated with SLE have been identified, biomarkers that correlate with LN are extremely limited. In this study, we performed a comprehensive sequencing analysis of the whole MHC region in 1331 patients with LN and 1296 healthy controls and validated the independent associations in another 950 patients with LN and 1000 controls.

Background: Limited information exists regarding the efficacy of pregabalin in Chinese patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (pDPN).
Methods: An 11-week double-blind placebo-controlled trial was performed in Chinese pDPN patients randomized (1 : 1) to 300 mg/day pregabalin or placebo. The primary outcome was change from baseline to endpoint in mean pain score (MPS; 0, no pain; 10, worst possible pain; using the mean of the last seven daily pain scores).

The combination of photodynamic therapy and other cancer treatment modalities is a promising strategy to enhance therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects. In this study, a tamoxifen-zinc(II) phthalocyanine conjugate linked by a triethylene glycol chain has been synthesized and characterized. Having tamoxifen as the targeting moiety, the conjugate shows high specific affinity to MCF-7 breast cancer cells overexpressed estrogen receptors (ERs) and tumor tissues, therefore leading to a cytotoxic effect in the dark due to the cytostatic tamoxifen moiety, and a high photocytotoxicity due to the photosensitizing phthalocyanine unit against the MCF-7 cancer cells.

The limited efficacy of conventional therapies for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has led to the growing interest for identifying potential antigenic targets for immunotherapy. Placenta-specific 1 (PLAC1) is a new member of cancer-testis antigens with restricted expression in normal tissues. Ectopic activation of PLAC1 has been found in different types of cancers, but its role in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains unknown.

MYBL2 (B-MYB), a member of the MYB family of transcription factor genes, regulates the expression of genes in the process of tumorigenesis. Many studies have shown that MYBL2 is high expresssion in several human malignancies including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, its role in PDAC is still unclear.

Two novel glucosylated zinc(ІІ) phthalocyanines 7a-7b, as well as the acetyl-protected counterparts 6a-6b, have been synthesized by the Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between the propargylated phthalocyanine and azide-substituted glucoses. All of these phthalocyanines were characterized with various spectroscopic methods and studied for their photo-physical, photo-chemical, and photo-biological properties. With glucose as the targeting unit, phthalocyanines 7a-7b exhibit a specific affinity to MCF-7 breast cancer cells over human embryonic lung fibroblast (HELF) cells, showing higher cellular uptake.

Breast cancer is the most frequently occurring cancer in women worldwide, microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical role in the initiation and progression of breast cancer. Here, we studied the effect of miR-455 on cell proliferation of breast cancer, and found that miR-455 was downregulated in breast cancer tissues and cells. Its overexpression inhibited cell proliferation, whereas its knockdown promoted cell proliferation of breast cancer.

BACKGROUND Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) brings major health issues for women, affecting 40% of postmenopausal women, and directly affects bladder and bowel function, as well as quality of life. In light of the projected growth in demand for care for pelvic floor disorders, determining the etiology and progression of POP has important public health implications. MATERIAL AND METHODS Uterosacral ligaments (USLs) samples of POP patients and normal controls were enrolled for RNA-Seq, and functional annotation analysis and Protein-Protein interaction (PPI) networks construction were performed for differentially expressed genes (DEGs).
