Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant urological tumor, and regrettably, and is insensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in poor patient outcomes. DBF4 plays a critical role in DNA replication and participates in various biological functions, making it an attractive target for cancer treatment. However, its significance in ccRCC has not yet been explored.

Purpose: Metabolic abnormalities, such as insulin resistance (IR) and dyslipidemia, have been linked to an increased risk of asthma. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), a metric indicating metabolic dysfunction, exhibits correlations with metabolic syndrome and IR. However, little research has been conducted on the relationship between TyG and asthma in the pediatric population.

miR-135a is highly expressed in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus, and its target genes are also involved in insulin signaling pathway, so it is one biomarker for gestational diabetes mellitus. Herein we designed a dual-mode DNA biosensor for reliable assay of miR-135a based on the fluorescence and colorimetric signals. Several experiments were carried out to demonstrate the assay feasibility and mechanism for this dual-mode DNA biosensor.

Clinical studies have shown that epileptic seizures worsen Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology and related cognitive deficits; however, the underlying mechanism is unclear. To assess the effects of seizures on the progression of AD, chronic temporal lobe epilepsy was induced in five familial AD mutation (5×FAD) mice by kindling with the chemoconvulsant pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) at 3-3.5 months of age.

The present study aimed to improve the dose distribution of radiotherapy planning for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by comparing the effects of various minimum monitor units (MUs) per dynamic control point (MMCP) values on the quality and execution efficiency of dynamic intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) planning. Thirty-four clinically implemented dynamic IMRT plans for patients with NPC were retrospectively selected. In total, 170 plans were obtained by modifying only the MMCP values (set as 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) in the treatment planning system's (TPS) optimization parameters.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study developed a CT imaging grading system to assess the severity of upper urinary tract calculi related to kidney infections, using data from 126 patients.
  • - Patients with higher CT grades, particularly those with fever or diabetes, showed significant differences in clinical findings like white blood cell counts and other inflammatory markers.
  • - The research found that a higher CT grade significantly increased the risk of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), with a 4.472 times greater risk for each grade increase.

Purpose: Proper management of subcentimeter thyroid nodules remains challenging for both clinicians and patients. Conducting extensive sonographic research using a safe and inexpensive tool for identifying thyroid nodules is necessary. The aim of this study was to identify whether having the highest-risk ultrasound (US) characteristic suggests that US-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy of subcentimeter nodules is more appropriate for the identification of malignancy than active surveillance (AS) or surgery.

Introduction And Importance: Adrenal myelolipoma (AML) is a rare, benign neoplasm of the adrenal gland often found incidentally during medical examinations for unrelated conditions. This case study presents a 39-year-old male patient with a particularly large AML, weighing 11 kg upon surgical removal, potentially making it the largest documented tumor in medical literature.

Case Presentation: A 39-year-old male presenting with abdominal distension and clinical manifestations of Cushing syndrome was discovered to have sizable adrenal masses.

Background: Acute pancreatitis is the most common complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), with an incidence of approximately 9.7% according to some literature reviews. Recent clinical guidelines propose that glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) can reduce the incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP).

Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS): Life-threatening medical conditions characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates, where the inflammatory process plays a crucial role in lung tissue damage, especially in models induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Heat shock protein A12B (HSPA12B) has strong anti-infammatory properties However, it is unknown whether increased HSPA12B is protective against LPS-induced ALI. And Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a potent α-adrenergic receptor (α-AR) agonist that has been shown to protect against sepsis-induced lung injury, however, the underlying mechanisms of this protection are not fully understood.

Aim: The retina and brain share similar anatomical and physiological features. Thus, retinal imaging by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) might be a potential tool for the early diagnosis of diabetic cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). In this study, we aimed to evaluate retinal vascular density (VD) in diabetic CSVD by OCTA imaging and explore the associations between retinal VD and cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers and cognitive function.

  • SOX2 has been identified as an oncogene linked to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), but directly targeting it is challenging due to its vital roles in various tissues.
  • Researchers discovered a protein called CDP that interacts with SOX2 and is more prevalent in ESCC, using various laboratory techniques to confirm this relationship.
  • A specific peptide aptamer, P58, was identified that can block the interaction between CDP and SOX2, effectively inhibiting ESCC growth and metastasis in model organisms like mice and zebrafish.

Department of Gastroenterology, Jiangxi Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, No.17, Yongwai Zheng Street, Nanchang, 330006, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on improving the pre-operative differentiation between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) using a new deep learning model called CSAM-Net, as current imaging methods are inadequate.
  • Researchers analyzed CT images from 395 HCC and 99 ICC patients and developed the CSAM-Net, which utilizes channel and spatial attention mechanisms for better accuracy.
  • The CSAM-Net model demonstrated significantly higher accuracy (AUC values around 0.987 for training) in distinguishing between HCC and ICC compared to conventional models, suggesting it could be a highly effective non-invasive diagnostic tool for liver cancers.
