Bacterial wilt severely jeopardizes plant growth and causes enormous economic loss in the production of many crops, including tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum). Here, we first demonstrated that the roots of bacterial wilt-resistant tobacco mutant KCB-1 can limit the growth and reproduction of Ralstonia solanacearum. Secondly, we demonstrated that KCB-1 specifically induced an upregulation of naringenin content in root metabolites and root secretions.

Due to the serious harm of depression to human health and quality of life, an accurate diagnosis of depression is warranted. For the complex etiology of depression, a single biomarker diagnostic method often leads to misdiagnosis. As noradrenaline and HClO are closely related to depression, a "dual-locked" fluorescence probe R-NE-HClO for diagnosing of depression through the simultaneous detection of noradrenaline and HClO was designed and synthesized.

Freshly harvested contains high water content with an unprotected outer surface and exhibits high respiration rates, which renders it prone to moisture and nutrient loss, leading to decay during storage. Our research utilized ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-PL) and chitosan as a composite coating preservative on fresh . The findings revealed that the ε-PL + chitosan composite coating preservative effectively delayed the development of diseases and reduced weight loss during storage compared to the control group.

Diabetic mellitus management extends beyond blood glucose monitoring to the essential task of mitigating the overexpression of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly vital for cellular repair, especially within the nervous system. Herein, antioxidant carbon dots (Arg-CDs) were designed and prepared using anhydrous citric acid, L-arginine, and ethylenediamine as sources through a hydrothermal method. Arg-CDs exhibited excellent scavenging ability to 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH∙), and fluorescence response to hydroxyl radicals (∙OH), a characteristic representative of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

The application of turmeric essential oil (TEO), a natural effective antibacterial agent, in food preservation is limited due to high volatility and low stability. This study aimed to improve its stability and release behavior by synthesizing TEO/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) inclusion complex (IC) in a saturated aqueous solution. An orthogonal experimental design was used to determine the optimal process conditions (HP-β-CD to TEO, g/mL), 16:1; stirring speed, 850 r/min; encapsulation time, 2 h), achieving a comprehensive score value of 85.

Designing Z-scheme van der Waals (vdW) heterostructured photocatalysts is a promising strategy for developing highly efficient overall water splitting. Herein, by employing density functional theory calculations, we systematically investigated the stability, electronic structures, photocatalytic and optical properties of AlSeTe, GaSe, and InS monolayers and their corresponding vdW heterostructures. Interestingly, electronic structures show that all vdW heterostructures have direct band gaps, which is conducive to the transition of electrons from the valence band to the conduction band.
