Electronic address:

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease which is characterized by pathological osteogenesis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification is pivotal in immunity and inflammation. In this study, the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from healthy or AS patients blood samples in Fuyang People's Hospital, which was utilized to clarify the role of m6A modification in AS pathogenesis.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to analyze the impact of a 3D printed model of the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) on surgical procedures for rectal cancer (RC) that aimed to preserve the left colic artery (LCA) and reduce complications like anastomotic leakage.
  • The research involved comparing two groups of patients undergoing laparoscopic radical resection—one using the 3D model and a control group—with results showing significant improvements in operation time, blood loss, hospital stay, recovery time, and lower complication rates for the 3D model group.
  • The findings suggest that the 3D printed IMA model can enhance surgical safety and efficiency by helping surgeons better navigate the complex anatomy during procedures.

The impact of diabetes mellitus on tendon pathology: a review.

Front Pharmacol

November 2024

Department of Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, Affiliated Fuyang People's Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Fuyang, Anhui, China.

Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases worldwide, leading to complications, mortality, and significant healthcare expenditures, which impose a substantial social and financial burden globally. A diabetic environment can induce metabolic changes, negatively affecting tendon homeostasis, leading to alterations in biomechanical properties and histopathology. Numerous studies have investigated the mechanisms through which diabetes exerts pathological effects on tendons, including increased free radical production, oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, deposition of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and microvascular changes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using an Endobutton plate combined with high-strength suture Nice knot fixation for treating distal clavicular fractures along with coracoclavicular ligament injuries.
  • It involved a retrospective analysis of 43 patients, comparing two treatment methods: the experimental group (high-strength Nice knot suture fixation) and a control group (acromioclavicular Kirschner wire fixation), over an average follow-up period of about 20 months.
  • Results showed that while the experimental group had significantly faster bone healing times, there were no notable differences in coracoclavicular space increase, demographic data, or shoulder function improvement between the two groups.

  • The coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction (CLR) technique, popular for treating acromioclavicular joint dislocations, has potential complications like clavicle and coracoid fractures, and implant failures, prompting a study on clavicular tunnel widening (CTW).
  • A retrospective analysis of 84 patients from a larger group who underwent single-bundle CLR provided data on post-operative measures, including CT width and coracoclavicular distance at 6 months.
  • The findings indicated that both CT width and coracoclavicular distance increased significantly by the 6-month follow-up, but no notable differences in CTW were observed based on factors like sex, injury causes, or Rockwood classification.

September 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory, The Second People's Hospital of Fuyang city, Fuyang, Fuyang Infectious Disease Clinical College of Anhui Medical University, Anhui, China.

Introduction: Diagnosis with Western blot test (WB) may not provide clear results for certain patients, including those who are not infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) but produce non-specific reactions, individuals in the HIV window period (WP), those with acute HIV infection, and advanced acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients. HIV-positive individuals face an elevated risk of developing kidney disease. HIV peritoneal dialysis patients may be more susceptible to catheter-related infections.

Liver cancer a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, yet understanding of its development mechanism remains limited, and treatment barriers present substantial challenges. Owing to the heterogeneity of tumors, traditional 2D culture models are inadequate for capturing the complexity and diversity of tumor biology and understanding of the disease. Organoids have garnered considerable attention because of their ability to self-renew and develop functional structures that closely resemble those of human organs.

Background: Although patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) are preferred to undergo catheter ablation (CA), the high possibility of recurrence following surgery is still concerning. We aimed to evaluate the ability of the left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI), which is the ratio of the left atrium end-diastolic volume to the left ventricle end-diastolic volume, to predict PAF recurrence after CA.

Methods: Patients with PAF undergoing CA for the first time between January 2018 and June 2021 were admitted and grouped by recurrence within a year.
