Background: The prognostic roles of three lymph node classifications, number of positive lymph nodes (NPLN), log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS), and lymph node ratio (LNR) in lung adenocarcinoma are unclear. We aim to find the classification with the strongest predictive power and combine it with the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th TNM stage to establish an optimal prognostic nomogram.

Methods: 25,005 patients with T1-4N0-2M0 lung adenocarcinoma after surgery between 2004 to 2016 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database were included.

Background: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) is a major cause of chronic liver diseases. Inflammatory response is a basic pathological feature of ALD. Mucosal-associated invariant T(MAIT) cells are a novel population of innate immune cells, which may be depleted in various inflammatory diseases.

Association between long-term ambient air pollution exposure and the risk of breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

November 2021

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, 81 Meishan Road, Hefei, 230032, China.

Breast cancer is a complex and multifactorial disease which stems significantly from both environmental and genetic factors. A growing number of epidemiological studies have suggested that ambient air pollution (AAP) exposure may play an important role in breast cancer development. However, no consistency has been reached concerning whether high levels of air pollutant exposure were related to increased breast cancer risk among the current evidence.

Aim: Given the increasing prevalence of hysteromyoma among the Chinese rural women of childbearing age, it is imperative that more attention should be given to researching risk factors that predispose women to this condition so that early preventive measures may be taken. Our study investigates potential risk factors for uterine fibroids such as participants' demographic characteristics (age, ethnicity, education), physiological characteristics (age at menarche, primiparous age), and the occurrence of several different female reproductive diseases (vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease).

Methods: 2200 rural women of reproductive age were screened from a cross-sectional study carried out in the northern Anhui province.

Global Trends in Research of Macrophages Associated With Acute Lung Injury Over Past 10 Years: A Bibliometric Analysis.

Front Immunol

June 2021

Department of Anesthesiology, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is an intractable disorder associated with macrophages. This bibliometric analysis was applied to identify the characteristics of global scientific output, the hotspots, and frontiers about macrophages in ALI over the past 10 years. We retrieved publications published from 2011 to 2020 and their recorded information from Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC).

Role of Ferroptosis in Lung Diseases.

J Inflamm Res

May 2021

Department of Anesthesiology, Fuyang Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Fuyang, Anhui, 236000, People's Republic of China.

Ferroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death characterized by intracellular iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation that leads to oxidative stress and cell death. The metabolism of iron, lipids, and amino acids and multiple signalling pathways precisely regulate the process of ferroptosis. Emerging evidence has demonstrated that ferroptosis participates in the occurrence and progression of various pathological conditions and diseases, such as infections, neurodegeneration, tissue ischaemia-reperfusion injury and immune diseases.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to investigate the association of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and mRNA expression profile of () in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a Chinese population.

Methods: polymorphism was genotyped using TaqMan allelic discrimination assay in 517 RA patients and 601 healthy controls. Simultaneously, the SIGIRR mRNA expression levels of 79 RA patients and 76 healthy controls were examined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Background: To evaluate the influence of patellar morphology on knee joint function and patellofemoral tracking in patients with primary osteoarthritis after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) without patellar resurfacing.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 156 patients with primary osteoarthritis who underwent TKA without patellar resurfacing from April 2018 to July 2019. As per Wiberg classification, patients were divided into Wiberg type I (group A, n = 38), II (group B, n = 88), and III (group C, n = 30) groups.

The number of coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) patients with left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction is significant, but the clinical outcomes of these patients are rarely reported. The present retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the long-term outcomes of successful recanalization vs. optimal medical therapy (MT) for CTOs in patients with preserved and impaired LV systolic function.

Imaging features of COVID-19: What we can learn from SARS and MERS (Review).

Exp Ther Med

April 2021

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100010, P.R. China.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly infectious type of pneumonia caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that has rapidly become a global pandemic. COVID-19, SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) are all caused by members of the Coronaviridae family. As expected, emerging genetic and clinical evidence from patients with COVID-19 has indicated that the pathway of infection is similar to that of SARS and MERS.

Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are an invariant T cell subset, which have been reported to play an antimicrobial role in infectious diseases. However, little is known about it in malignant diseases and tumors, especially in gastric cancer (GC). So in this study, we aim to examine the frequency, phenotype, partial functional capacity and clinical relevance of this cells from GC patients' peripheral blood by flow cytometry.

The interaction of ASIC1a and ERS mediates nerve cell apoptosis induced by insulin deficiency.

Diabetes-related brain complications are the most serious complications of terminal diabetes. The increasing evidence have showed that the predisposing factor is not only hyperglycemia, but also insulin deficiency. In this study, we demonstrated that insulin deficiency was involved in the apoptosis of nerve cells, and it was related to the interaction between acid-sensitive ion channel 1a (ASIC1a) and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS).

An Immune Risk Score Predicts Survival of Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Receiving Chemotherapy.

Clin Cancer Res

January 2021

Department of Hematologic Oncology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou, Guangdong, P.R. China.

Purpose: Prediction models for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are useful, but have considerable inaccuracy and imprecision. No current model includes covariates related to immune cells in the AML microenvironment. Here, an immune risk score was explored to predict the survival of patients with AML.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a common clinical critical disease, with a high mortality. The imbalance of alveolar macrophage (AMs) polarization plays an important role in the occurrence and development of ALI inflammation. The study of the regulation mode and mechanism of macrophage polarization can provide more theoretical basis for clinical prevention and treatment of ALI.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of lymphoma, accounting for approximately 30% to 40% of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL). The administration of rituximab significantly improved the outcomes of DLBCL; however, the unavoidable development of resistance limits the long-term efficacy. Therefore, a new generation of less toxic drugs with higher chemotherapy response is required to prevent or reverse chemoresistance.
