Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM), a chronic metabolic disease, is characterized by long-term hyperglycemia resulting from the defect of insulin production and insulin resistance. The damage and dysfunction of pancreatic β-cells is a main link in DM development.
Methods: In this work, pancreatic β-cell line INS-1E cells were exposed to 30 mM glucose for 48 h to construct an in vitro DM model.

Machine learning models for the diagnosis of breast cancer can facilitate the prediction of cancer risk and subsequent patient management among other clinical tasks. For the models to impact clinical practice, they ought to follow standard workflows, help interpret mammography and ultrasound data, evaluate clinical contextual information, handle incomplete data and be validated in prospective settings. Here we report the development and testing of a multimodal model leveraging mammography and ultrasound modules for the stratification of breast cancer risk based on clinical metadata, mammography and trimodal ultrasound (19,360 images of 5,216 breasts) from 5,025 patients with surgically confirmed pathology across medical centres and scanner manufacturers.

Background: Periodontitis is a dental disease characterized by inflammation of periodontal tissues and loss of the periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. Exosomes are a class of extracellular vesicles that are involved in a variety of diseases by releasing active substances. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of exosomes from M2 polarized macrophages (M2-exos) on osteogenic differentiation in human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs).

Background: Defects in DNA damage repair can cause genetic mutations, which in turn can cause different types of cancers. Chromatin remodeling complexes, which help repair damaged DNA, can cause the chromatin structure to change as a result of DNA damage. ARID1A may play a role in the process of DNA damage repair, and arid1a may be related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer (GC).

Background: The incidence and risk factors of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis in patients with breast cancer have not been fully elucidated.
Method: Meta-analysis was performed by searching all studies on the incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter-associated thrombosis and risk factors for its formation in breast cancer patients from the establishment of the database to May 2023, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China Knowledge Network, China Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) and Wanfang databases. Then the incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis and risk factors for its formation were analyzed in breast cancer patients.

Rationale And Objectives: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus molecular targeted therapies has emerged as the main approach for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT). A robust model for outcome prediction and risk stratification of recommended TACE plus molecular targeted therapies candidates is lacking. We aimed to develop an easy-to-use tool specifically for these patients.

To investigate the influencing factors of in-hospital acute heart failure (AHF) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), and to construct and validate a risk prediction nomogram model. Three Hundred Thirty patients with AECOPD admitted to our hospital from June 2020 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed as a training set for the construction of the model. Three Hundred Twenty-five AECOPD patients admitted to the Second People's Hospital of Hefei from 2006 to June 2023 were also collected as the validation set for the validation of the model.

Background: The effectiveness of combining anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and chemotherapy has been evaluated as superior to that of chemotherapy alone in the patients with advanced epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI)-resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study the efficacy and safety of anti-PD-1 combination therapy were evaluated retrospectively in patients who experienced EGFR-TKI-resistant with advanced lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), with the goal of providing helpful guidance for clinical application.
Methods: The clinical results of patients with incurable LUAD who received anti-PD-1 antibody combined with or without anti-angiogenic or chemotherapy after EGFR-TKI therapy failure were collected.

Objectives: To detect the expression and significance of GSDMD-N (gasdermin D N-terminal) in breast cancer, along with pyroptosis effector protein NLRP3 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3), and determine their relationship with the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer.
Methods: From January 2014 to December 2014, NLRP3 and GSDMD-N expression in 90 breast carcinoma organism samples and 30 paracancer tissues in the Department of Pathology. The First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College was assessed using immunohistochemistry.

Background: AI-based clinical decision support system (CDSS) has important prospects in overcoming the current informational challenges that cancer diseases faced, promoting the homogeneous development of standardized treatment among different geographical regions, and reforming the medical model. However, there are still a lack of relevant indicators to comprehensively assess its decision-making quality and clinical impact, which greatly limits the development of its clinical research and clinical application. This study aims to develop and application an assessment system that can comprehensively assess the decision-making quality and clinical impacts of physicians and CDSS.

Background: The number of patients with breast cancer is increasing worldwide, resulting in a growing number of patients with chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), which seriously affects their quality of life. CRCI is associated with inflammatory factors and systemic inflammatory markers such as pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), which can reflect the level of inflammation in the body. While the Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM) intervention has been demonstrated to alleviate CRCI in patients with breast cancer, the specific mechanism remains unclear.

Background: Currently available evidence favors the combination of chemotherapy with concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC). However, the optimal timing for additional chemotherapy is unclear. This study was conducted to compare the efficacy and toxicity of induction chemotherapy plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (IC+CCRT) versus concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy (CCRT+AC).

Objective: To explore the effects of a knockdown of cyclooxygenase 2 upon the growth and migration of SaOS2 cells.
Methods: We employed lentivirus mediated-RNA interference technology to knockdown the endogenous expression of gene COX-2 in human osteosarcoma cells (SaOS2) and analyzed their phenotypical changes. The effects of COX-2 silencing on the proliferation, cell cycle and migration of SaOS2 cells were assessed by thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide, flow cytometry and migration assays respectively.
