Background: Baicalein has been used to treat inflammation-related diseases; nevertheless, its specific mechanism of action is unclear. Therefore, we examined the protective effects of baicalein on lipopolysaccharide-induced damage to AR42J pancreatic acinar cells (PACs) and determined its mechanism of action for protection.

Methods: An cell model of acute pancreatitis (AP) was established using lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (1 mg/L)-induced PACs (AR42J), and the relative survival rate was determined using the 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo(-z-y1)-3,5-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) technique.

Dual-Plasmid Mini-Tn5 System to Stably Integrate Multicopy of Target Genes in .

ACS Synth Biol

November 2024

State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, Qingdao, Shandong 266237, People's Republic of China.

The efficiency of valuable metabolite production by engineered microorganisms underscores the importance of stable and controllable gene expression. While plasmid-based methods offer flexibility, integrating genes into host chromosomes can establish stability without selection pressure. However, achieving site-directed multicopy integration presents challenges, including site selection and stability.

Methylprednisolone for acute type A aortic dissection patients undergoing total arch replacement: Design and rationale of the Medal trial.

Am Heart J

January 2025

Department of Cardiopulmonary Bypass, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Disease, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: The mortality and morbidity of emergency total aortic arch replacement (TAAR) for acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is high, which is partly due to the excessively activated systemic inflammatory response. Methylprednisolone, an anti-inflammatory agent, might suppress the systemic inflammatory response and lead to improved outcomes. However, the protective effects of methylprednisolone on TAAR for ATAAD were not clarified.

Article Synopsis
  • Hyperuricemia, a condition with high uric acid levels, can make the gut barrier weaker, but what causes this isn't well understood.
  • Researchers used mice to study how high uric acid affects the gut and found that using a medicine called Allopurinol helped strengthen the gut barrier.
  • They discovered that gut bacteria play a big role in keeping the gut healthy, and if these bacteria are damaged, it can lead to more problems with gut health.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) accounts for nearly one-third of all major congenital anomalies, with atrial septal defect (ASD) and ventricular septal defect (VSD) being the most common forms of simple CHD, which involve a large number of susceptibility genes. However, despite extensive research, the etiology of ASD and VSD remains unclear. Yunnan Province has advantages in exploring CHD pathogenesis due to its unique genetic background.

Background: The permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation and pacemaker dependency rates after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are highly variable as some of the conduction disturbances are reversible. It remains poorly investigated how to optimise temporary pacing in these patients. This study aimed to explore the potential reduction in the PPM implantation rate using temporary-permanent pacemaker (TPPM) as a 1-month bridge.

Background: For acute type A aortic dissection involving the aortic root with root diameter no more than 45 mm, there are various aortic root repair techniques. In this study, a novel surgical technique using a pericardial autograft for aortic root repair was introduced. We described its surgical steps in detail and compare its clinical outcomes with direct suture technique.

[Research on bark-frequency spectral coefficients heart sound classification algorithm based on multiple window time-frequency reassignment].

Sheng Wu Yi Xue Gong Cheng Xue Za Zhi

February 2024

School of Information Science and Engineering, Yunnan University, Kunming 650504, P. R. China.

The multi-window time-frequency reassignment helps to improve the time-frequency resolution of bark-frequency spectral coefficient (BFSC) analysis of heart sounds. For this purpose, a new heart sound classification algorithm combining feature extraction based on multi-window time-frequency reassignment BFSC with deep learning was proposed in this paper. Firstly, the randomly intercepted heart sound segments are preprocessed with amplitude normalization, the heart sounds were framed and time-frequency rearrangement based on short-time Fourier transforms were computed using multiple orthogonal windows.

Nitazoxanide reduces inflammation and bone erosion in mice with collagen-induced arthritis via inhibiting the JAK2/STAT3 and NF-κB pathways in fibroblast-like synoviocytes.

Biomed Pharmacother

February 2024

Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing 100191, PR China; Osteoporosis and Bone Metabolic Diseases Center, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing 100191, PR China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research shows that Nitazoxanide (NTZ), an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug, can prevent bone loss caused by ovariectomy by inhibiting osteoclast activity.
  • The study tested NTZ's effects on primary rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS) and a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model, finding that NTZ effectively reduces the proliferation and migration of RA-FLS without causing cell death.
  • Results indicate that NTZ decreases inflammatory markers and alleviates bone erosion in arthritis, highlighting its potential as a new treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

[Heart sound classification algorithm based on time-frequency combination feature and adaptive fuzzy neural network].

Sheng Wu Yi Xue Gong Cheng Xue Za Zhi

December 2023

School of Information Science and Engineering, Yunnan University, Kunming 650504, P. R. China.

Feature extraction methods and classifier selection are two critical steps in heart sound classification. To capture the pathological features of heart sound signals, this paper introduces a feature extraction method that combines mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) and power spectral density (PSD). Unlike conventional classifiers, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was chosen as the classifier for this study.
