July 2024

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Huashan Hospital, Fundan University, No. 12 Middle Urumqi Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai 200040, China.

A modified enriched environment (mEE) with 12 h per night was recently proposed and exhibited cognitive improvement. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of different courses of mEE on different deficits in ischemic mice. Mice were subjected to photothrombotic stroke at the left sensorimotor cortex and then randomly assigned to standard environment or mEE for 7 d (St-PE) or 28 d (Ct-PE) on the third day post-stroke.

Electronic address:

Background: Major hepatectomy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) patients with a small future liver remnant (FLR) risks posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). This study examines combined portal and hepatic vein embolisation (PVE/HVE) to increase preoperative FLR volume and potentially decrease PHLF rates.

Methods: In this retrospective, multicentre, observational study, data was collected from centres affiliated with the DRAGON Trials Collaborative and the EuroLVD registry.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Increases in the availability of genetic data and advances in the tools and methods for their analyses have enabled well-powered genetic association studies that have significantly enhanced our understanding of the genetic factors underlying both rare and common valve diseases. Valvular heart diseases, such as congenital valve malformations and degenerative valve lesions, increase the risk of heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden death. In this review, we provide an updated overview of our current understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying valvular heart diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The DRAGON 1 trial investigates the training, implementation, safety, and feasibility of a combined portal- and hepatic-vein embolization (PVE/HVE) approach to encourage liver growth in patients with borderline resectable colorectal cancer liver metastases.
  • The study is a worldwide multicenter, single-arm trial, with primary endpoints focusing on the safety of the procedure and 90-day mortality, while secondary endpoints look at resection feasibility, liver function, and overall survival rates.
  • The findings aim to standardize procedures for future trials and enhance understanding of the safety and effects of PVE/HVE on liver growth in this patient population.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers with high mortality, and can easily spread and metastasize, remaining an urgent disease to be solved. Nanomaterial-associated starvation or photothermal therapy has been considered to be a promising strategy in tumor therapy. However, the therapeutic effect of a single regimen for cancer treatment still needs to be improved due to their respective limitations.

Furin is involved in uterine activation for labor.

FASEB J

May 2021

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Research Center for Molecular Metabolomics, Xiangya Hospital Central South University, Changsha, China.

The uterus undergoes distinct molecular and functional changes during pregnancy and parturition. These processes are associated with the dramatic changes in various proteins. Given that the maturation and activation of many proteins require proteolytic processing by proprotein convertases (PCs), we sought to explore the role of PCs in uterine activation for labor.

NMDA autoantibody encephalitis presenting as schizophrenia suggests the possible role of adaptive cell-mediated immunity in idiopathic schizophrenia. However, to our knowledge there have been no trials of the immune-suppressant methotrexate in schizophrenia. We tested if low-dose methotrexate as used in the treatment of systemic autoimmune disorders would be tolerable and effective in people with schizophrenia in a feasibility study.

Sarcopenia is a serious public health problem associated with the loss of muscle mass and function. The purpose of this study was to identify molecular markers and construct a ceRNA pathway as a significant predictor of sarcopenia. We designed a prediction model to select important differentially expressed mRNAs (DEMs), and constructed a sarcopenia associated ceRNA network.

ZC4H2 stabilizes RNF220 to pattern ventral spinal cord through modulating Shh/Gli signaling.

J Mol Cell Biol

June 2020

State Key Laboratory of Genetic Resources and Evolution, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming 650223, China.

ZC4H2 encodes a C4H2 type zinc-finger nuclear factor, the mutation of which has been associated with disorders with various clinical phenotypes in human, including developmental delay, intellectual disability and dystonia. ZC4H2 has been suggested to regulate spinal cord patterning in zebrafish as a co-factor for RNF220, an ubiquitin E3 ligase involved in Gli signaling. Here we showed that ZC4H2 and RNF220 knockout animals phenocopy each other in spinal patterning in both mouse and zebrafish, with mispatterned progenitor and neuronal domains in the ventral spinal cord.

Department of Head & Neck Oncology, Cancer Center and State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Cytokeratin fraction 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) has been widely studied as an important biomarker in non-small cell lung cancer for both diagnosis and prognosis. Many studies have also assessed the clinical applications of CYFRA 21-1 in head and neck cancer, but the diagnostic and prognostic values of CYFRA 21-1 are not yet fully established. This pooled analysis aims at evaluating the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic applications of CYFRA 21-1 in patients with head and neck cancer.
