Differential efficacy of modified enriched environment on motor, emotion, and cognition in cortical ischemic mice.

A modified enriched environment (mEE) with 12 h per night was recently proposed and exhibited cognitive improvement. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of different courses of mEE on different deficits in ischemic mice. Mice were subjected to photothrombotic stroke at the left sensorimotor cortex and then randomly assigned to standard environment or mEE for 7 d (St-PE) or 28 d (Ct-PE) on the third day post-stroke.

Combined portal and hepatic vein embolisation in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma.

Background: Major hepatectomy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) patients with a small future liver remnant (FLR) risks posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). This study examines combined portal and hepatic vein embolisation (PVE/HVE) to increase preoperative FLR volume and potentially decrease PHLF rates.

Insights into the Inherited Basis of Valvular Heart Disease.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Increases in the availability of genetic data and advances in the tools and methods for their analyses have enabled well-powered genetic association studies that have significantly enhanced our understanding of the genetic factors underlying both rare and common valve diseases. Valvular heart diseases, such as congenital valve malformations and degenerative valve lesions, increase the risk of heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden death. In this review, we provide an updated overview of our current understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying valvular heart diseases.

Glucose oxidase-mediated tumor starvation therapy combined with photothermal therapy for colon cancer.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers with high mortality, and can easily spread and metastasize, remaining an urgent disease to be solved. Nanomaterial-associated starvation or photothermal therapy has been considered to be a promising strategy in tumor therapy. However, the therapeutic effect of a single regimen for cancer treatment still needs to be improved due to their respective limitations.

ZC4H2 stabilizes RNF220 to pattern ventral spinal cord through modulating Shh/Gli signaling.

ZC4H2 encodes a C4H2 type zinc-finger nuclear factor, the mutation of which has been associated with disorders with various clinical phenotypes in human, including developmental delay, intellectual disability and dystonia. ZC4H2 has been suggested to regulate spinal cord patterning in zebrafish as a co-factor for RNF220, an ubiquitin E3 ligase involved in Gli signaling. Here we showed that ZC4H2 and RNF220 knockout animals phenocopy each other in spinal patterning in both mouse and zebrafish, with mispatterned progenitor and neuronal domains in the ventral spinal cord.

Diagnostic accuracy and prognostic applications of CYFRA 21-1 in head and neck cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cytokeratin fraction 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) has been widely studied as an important biomarker in non-small cell lung cancer for both diagnosis and prognosis. Many studies have also assessed the clinical applications of CYFRA 21-1 in head and neck cancer, but the diagnostic and prognostic values of CYFRA 21-1 are not yet fully established. This pooled analysis aims at evaluating the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic applications of CYFRA 21-1 in patients with head and neck cancer.

To analyze the safety of endoscopic stapes surgery, and to compare the results with stapes surgery under microscopic approach. This was a retrospective study. One hundred and thirty seven patients from Eye Ear Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University and other seven hospitals were enrolled in this study.

Global Variation of Nutritional Status in Children Undergoing Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis: A Longitudinal Study of the International Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis Network.

While children approaching end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are considered at risk of uremic anorexia and underweight they are also exposed to the global obesity epidemic. We sought to investigate the variation of nutritional status in children undergoing chronic peritoneal dialysis (CPD) around the globe. The distribution and course of body mass index (BMI) standard deviation score over time was examined prospectively in 1001 children and adolescents from 35 countries starting CPD who were followed in the International Pediatric PD Network (IPPN) Registry.

Background: Sahariya, a primitive tribal group, residing in Gwalior and Sheopur districts of Madhya Pradesh, India, show high incidence and prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). The study was designed to understand the genetic diversity and phenotype - genotype association of drug resistant M. tuberculosis strains, infecting Sahariya tribe.

Myocardium segmentation from DE MRI with guided random walks and sparse shape representation.

Purpose: For patients with myocardial infarction (MI), delayed enhancement (DE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a sensitive and well-validated technique for the detection and visualization of MI. The myocardium viability assessment with DE MRI is important in diagnosis and treatment management, where myocardium segmentation is a prerequisite. However, few academic works have focused on automated myocardium segmentation from DE images.

[Observation and prevention measures against adverse reaction to intratympanic corticosteroid injections].

To investigate clinical characteristic and incidence of the adverse reaction to tympanic injection. The incidence rates of adverse reaction were also compared after improvement of anesthetic method and changed ratio of methylprednisolone. A retrospective analysis of 712 cases (1 928 injections) of receiving injection in a medical center, to explore the overall and classified adverse reactions, as well as effects of age and gender and frequency on adverse reactions.

Isolation of Stem-Like Cancer Cells in Primary Endometrial Cancer Using Cell Surface Markers CD133 and CXCR4.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common familiar gynecologic malignant tumor identified in the female reproductive system and has been increasing yearly. In this study, we will identify the surface markers and stem cell markers related with cancer stem cells (CSCs) of EC. Tissue samples were obtained from endometrial cancer patients during surgical procedures.

[The spontaneous herniation of temporomandibular joint into external auditory canal: diagnosis of otoscopy, CT and MRI].

Objective: To summarize the otoscopy, CT and MRI features of spontaneous herniation of the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) into the external auditory canal(EAC) through the persistence Huschke's foramen(PHF).

Methods: The otoscopy, CT and MRI images of three cases with the herniation of the TMJ into the EAC through the PHF were analyzed retrospectively.

Results: Otoscopy revealed the masses located in the antero-inferior aspect of the bony EAC, and the mass displayed an alternative of forward and backward motion during opening and closing of the mouth.
