Chronotype and Cancer: Emerging Relation Between Chrononutrition and Oncology from Human Studies.

Fasting-feeding timing is a crucial pattern implicated in the regulation of daily circadian rhythms. The interplay between sleep and meal timing underscores the importance of maintaining circadian alignment in order to avoid creating a metabolic environment conducive to carcinogenesis following the molecular and systemic disruption of metabolic performance and immune function. The chronicity of such a condition may support the initiation and progression of cancer through a variety of mechanisms, including increased oxidative stress, immune suppression, and the activation of proliferative signaling pathways.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Pharmacological Treatment With Insulin and Insulin Analogs for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Colombia.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the cost-effectiveness relationship of insulins and insulin analogs in diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM1) and 2 (DM2), from the perspective of the Colombian health system.

Methods: A short-term decision tree model (SM) was built, the outcome of which was severe/nocturnal hypoglycemia, and a long-term Markov model for quality-adjusted life-years. The probabilities were calculated through a literature review of effectiveness and safety.

Gemcitabine-induced digital necrosis in a patient with cervical squamous cell carcinoma: case report and literature review.

Objectives: To present the case of a patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix who developed distal necrosis following treatment with gemcitabine, and to perform a literature review to assess the association between the cumulative dose of gemcitabine, diagnosis, and management of this complication.

Material And Methods: A 61 year old patient was treated with gemcitabine (total accumulated dose of 11,744 mg/m²) for metastatic disease at a private, nononcological, fourth level general hospital, where she was receiving outpatient management. She developed distal necrosis of the second finger on her right hand, leading to the discontinuation of gemcitabine and necessitating amputation of the affected finger.

Coupling Bio-Resonance Neurotechnology (BRNT) and Dual Hemispheric Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) Reduces Comorbid Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) as Demonstrated by PHQ-9 and GAD-7: Pilot Case Series.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) are prevalent comorbidities related to a greater likelihood of poor treatment outcomes and prolonged treatment for Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) behaviors. The current exploratory case study of a small cohort (n=3; f=2 m=1) used novel neurotechnology to treat co-occurring MDD and GAD with a multifaceted intervention that combines the novel bio-resonance neurotechnology (BRNT) referred to as NuCalm, to restore autonomic nervous system balance and dual hemispheric repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the ipsilateral Dorsal Lateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC) to treat the disrupted structural components of the brain. Neuroacoustic brainwave entrainment, electromagnetic frequency bio-resonance, and light-blocking combine to place patients into a parasympathetic dominant state.

Two-year survival in patients with oncological disease with low muscle reserve, risk of sarcopenia and probable sarcopenia: A post hoc analysis.

Introduction: Sarcopenia is a clinical syndrome characterized by the loss of muscle mass quantity and quality. Our objective was to establish the prevalence of low muscle reserve, risk of sarcopenia (RIS) and probable sarcopenia (PS) and their associations with survival at two years in hospitalized patients with cancer.

Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of the Nutri-Score and Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) operational characteristics.

Background: Little is known about trends in cancer among the older segments of the population, even less for South America.

Objective: To describe time trends in mortality of the most frequent causes of cancer death among the population aged 70 and over.

Methods: Using the World Health Organization´s Cancer Mortality Database, we studied trends in mortality from lung, colorectal, stomach, liver, prostate, breast, and cervical cancer from 1985 onwards.

Management in primary health care (PHC) focuses on system design, improvement policies, and implementation of evidence-based interventions. This review identifies and describes management strategies used to improve PHC in terms of quality, accessibility, efficiency, and satisfaction of health professionals and patients. A review of the literature published in PubMed, Ovid/Medline, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar was conducted.

Analgosedation and delirium practices in critically ill patients in the Pan-American and Iberian setting, and factors associated with oversedation after the COVID-19 pandemic: Results from the PANDEMIC study.

The Analgosedation and Delirium Committee of the FEPIMCTI (Pan-American and Iberian Federation of Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Care) conducted a cross-sectional study through a survey addressed to ICU physicians: PANDEMIC (Pan-American and Iberian Study on the Management of Analgosedation and Delirium in Critical Care [fepImCti]). HYPOTHESIS: Worsening of these practices in the course of the pandemic and that continued afterwards, with further oversedation.

Prevalence, aetiology, and hospital outcomes of paediatric acute critical illness in resource-constrained settings (Global PARITY): a multicentre, international, point prevalence and prospective cohort study.

Background: Children in resource-constrained settings (RCS) have disproportionately high illness and mortality; however, the prevalence in RCS of paediatric acute critical illness (P-ACI; life-threatening conditions that require time-sensitive interventions) is unknown. Most P-ACI can be managed with basic critical care (stabilisation, fluid resuscitation, oxygen, and vital-organ support), but RCS hospitals often lack such essential services. This study estimated the prevalence and examined the aetiology of P-ACI among children at RCS hospitals to support critical care capacity building and inform resource allocation.

Cernunnos/XLF deficiency is a rare, severe combined immunodeficiency, inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern (OMIM number: 611290), related to the NHEJ1 gene. This gene participates in the DNA non-homologous end-joining pathway, repairing double-strand breaks in the DNA of mammalian cells. The clinical features include growth retardation, microcephaly, triangle-shaped face, recurrent infections, fibroblast's excessive sensitivity to gamma-ionizing radiation, and hypogammaglobulinemia; also, low counts of subpopulations of B and T lymphocytes, with normal values of natural-killer cells.

Background: The Endoscopic Endonasal Approach (EEA) has revolutionized the treatment landscape for optic pathway-hypothalamic gliomas (OPHGs) by providing precise visualization of the lesion neuroanatomic and minimizing brain manipulation. Publication of articles in international scientific journals has been one of the main strategies for the communication of scientific findings and ideas. Prepublication peer review is a fundamental aspect of the publishing process in indexed scientific journals and, associated with the large growth in journals and articles, there has been a recent challenge in having adequate peer reviewers for international journals. In this article, we provide a short overview of the publishing process, give recommendations to early career researchers about writing peer reviews of adequate quality, and discuss some possibilities for the future.
