2019 SEFH National Survey: service portfolio, care activities, education and research in Spain's hospital pharmacy departments.

Objective: To report on the results obtained from the 2019 SEFH National Survey regarding the service portfolio, care activities, training  programs and research work of Spanish hospital pharmacy departments.

Method: In March 2019, SEFH designed and distributed a questionnaire containing 77 questions grouped into 8 domains to its 368  affiliated hospital pharmacy departments. The questionnaire included an  additional section on the activities carried out in 2017 and 2018.

Remote pharmaceutical care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.

BackgroundAccess to drugs with hospital-restricted dispensation, such as those for patients with rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis, is regulated by healthcare policy. These drugs have the greatest cost-effective impact on the healthcare system. This is why a model for Pharmaceutical Care based on follow-up teleconsultations was defined in our hospital to improve patient well-being.

SEFH National Survey-2019: general characteristics, staffing, material resources and information systems in Spain's hospital pharmacy departments.

Objective: To publicize the results regarding the general characteristics, human resources, materials and information systems of Spanish hospital pharmacy  departments arising from SEFH's 2019 Survey on the Situation of Spanish  Hospital Pharmacy Departments.

Method: An online questionnaire was sent to the heads of the 368 hospital pharmacy departments affiliated to SEFH. The questionnaire included 77 questions grouped into 8 dimensions.

Implementation of an anti-flu vaccination campaign in a hospital pharmacy service.

Objective: To determine the impact of the implementation of an  influenza vaccination campaign in a hospital pharmacy service on  patients who are starting or receiving treatment with biological  therapies.

Method: A 15-month quasi-experimental study of patients starting or receiving treatment with biological therapies. Between October and  December 2016 and October and December 2017, we compared  influenza vaccination rates, the incidence of influenza in the study  population, the direct impact of the vaccination campaign on the  patient, the effect of the campaign on vaccination rates, and the results  of the satisfaction survey.

Rehabilitation protocols in unstable trochanteric fractures treated with cephalomedullary nails in elderly: current practices and outcome.

Background: Optimal rehabilitation treatment after surgery for fixation of unstable trochanteric fractures is challenging in elderly patients.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to analyse the existing literature on available rehabilitation protocols with regards to permitting or restricting early weight bearing following fixation of unstable trochanteric fractures treated by the use of cephalomedullary nails in patients at least 65 years of age.

Methods: A systematic review was performed based on the checklist of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA).

Characteristics of febrile urinary tract infections in older male adults.

Background: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most frequent bacterial infections in older adults. The aim of the study was to analyse the existence of differences in clinical features, microbiological data and risk of infection by multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) between older and non-older men with febrile UTI (FUTI).

Methods: This was an ambispective observational study involving older males with a FUTI attended in the Emergency Department.

Study of intraarticular pressures in the elbow joints.

The purpose of this study was to describe pressure originating in the six elbow articular compartments after muscular contractions. Ten cryopreserved cadaveric arms were dissected and the insertional tendons and capsuloligamentous tissues were preserved. The specimens were placed in a custom-made device.

A giant superinfected uterine angioleiomyoma with distant septic metastases: an extremely rare presentation of a benign process and a systematic review of the literature.

Purpose: Uterine angioleiomyoma is a rare type of leiomyoma variant and there are few cases reported in the literature. The definitive diagnosis is usually obtained only after the histopathologic examination because there are no specific imaging criteria for this disease. The objective of this article is to review published cases about this clinical condition.

Prostate cancer screening: guidelines review and laboratory issues.

Background Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) remains as the most used biomarker in the detection of early prostate cancer (PCa). Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are produced to facilitate incorporation of evidence into clinical practice. This is particularly useful when PCa screening remains controversial and guidelines diverge among different medical institutions, although opportunistic screening is not recommended.

[Spanish home enteral nutrition registry of the year 2016 and 2017 from the NADYA-SENPE Group].

Objective: to present the results of the Spanish home enteral nutrition (HEN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE group for the year 2016 and 2017. Material and methods: from January 1st 2016 to December 31st 2017, the HEN registry was recorded and afterwards a further descriptive and analytical analysis was done. Results: in 2016, 4,578 active patients were recorded and prevalence was 98.

Long-term deterioration after one-stage unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Purpose: Treatment for unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis (OA) is controversial in young patients with concomitant anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency. The aim of the current study is to report long-term results after the combination of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and ACL reconstruction.

Methods: Retrospective study of one-stage medial UKA and ACL reconstruction was performed on eight patients at a mean age of 52 years (42-60).

Clinical predictors of ceftriaxone resistance in microorganisms causing febrile urinary tract infections in men.

Objectives: Because of high rates of resistance to fluoroquinolones, ceftriaxone has become one of the main options for treating febrile urinary tract infection (FUTI). This study aimed to identify predictors of ceftriaxone resistance in community-acquired FUTIs in men.

Material And Methods: Cross-sectional ambispective study enrolling men with FUTIs treated in the emergency department of a local area hospital in Spain.

[Intravitreal rituximab for the treatment of intraocular relapse of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma].

Clinical Case: A 58-year-old woman with intraocular relapse of a diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Weekly intravitreal rituximab (1 mg/0.1 ml) for 4 weeks were  administered.

Efficacy and safety of direct-acting antiviral agents when combined with secukinumab.

Background: The interference in the immune response induced by biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) increases the risk of reactivation of infections. Treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and psoriasis is complex. The efficacy and safety of the new direct-acting antiviral agents (DAA) when combined with bDMARDs remain unknown.

[Incidence of accidental exposure to blood and body fluids among healthcare professionals in a community hospital].

Objective: To determine the annual incidence of healthcare professionals' accidental exposure to blood and body fluids in a community hospital and describe their characteristics, associated situations and follow-up.

Method: A longitudinal, retrospective study of biological accidents voluntarily reported on a yearly basis by exposed healthcare professionals at Fundació Hospital de l'Esperit Sant (in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona, Spain), between 2005 and 2014. A descriptive analysis of the variables related to the exposed professional, the exposure itself, its production mechanism and the source patient was conducted.

Design: Observational study using self-administered questionnaires.

Settings: Five teaching hospitals in the province of Barcelona, Spain.

[Impact of an intervention to improve indwelling urinary catheter use and reduce urinary tract infections].

Objective: To evaluate the impact of an intervention regarding the adequate use and improvement in the care of indwelling urinary catheters (IUC) and the frequency of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in hospitalised patients.

Material And Methods: A quasi-experimental study was performed. Basic data on the use of IUC were recorded before and after the intervention, which consisted of training on IUC use and the implementation of reminders for their removal.
