Four cases of isolated fallopian tube torsion successfully treated with laparoscopic surgery:A case series.

We report four cases of isolated fallopian tube torsion (IFTT) successfully treated with laparoscopic surgery over the past 10 years. Two young women (each 19 years old) were IFTT with paraovarian cyst (POC) and tubal preservation was possible with detorsion and cystectomy. The other two patients (a 41-year-old woman with hydrosalpinx and a 50-year-old woman with hematosalpinx) underwent salpingectomy and adnexectomy, respectively, because there was no desire for tubal preservation.

Incidence Rates of Infections in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients Treated with Janus Kinase or Interleukin-6 Inhibitors: Results of a Retrospective, Multicenter Cohort Study.

This study aimed to compare the incidence rates (IRs) of infections, including herpes zoster (HZ), in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) or interleukin-6 inhibitors (IL-6is). We retrospectively analyzed 444 RA patients treated using IL-6is ( = 283) or JAKis ( = 161). After adjusting for clinical characteristic imbalances by propensity score matching (PSM), we compared the IRs of infections including HZ between the JAKi and IL-6i groups.

Simple prediction tools for disease progression in unvaccinated patients with mild/moderate COVID-19 aged under 65 years: Simplified DOATS and DOAT scores.

DOATS score and DOAT score, COVID-19 progression prediction tools we have developed, utilize clinical information such as presence of diabetes/obesity (DO), age (A), body temperature (T), and oxygen saturation (S). They showed good predictive power, but their scoring calculation was slightly complex, leading us to develop simplified versions. This report discusses the ability of the simplified versions to assess deterioration risk in unvaccinated, mild/moderate COVID-19 patients aged <65 years.

[Intestinal malrotation accompanied by a right paraduodenal hernia in an adult: a case report].

A 72-year-old woman was admitted to our department in March 2020 for an evaluation of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, liver dysfunction, and hypokalemia, which had persisted intermittently since 2013. Thickening of the descending duodenal wall and a sac-like appearance the intestinal tract in the vicinity of the duodenal papilla were observed in abdominal computed tomography. No duodenojejunal curvature, with two intestinal loops identified in the descending region, was detected in contrast-enhanced upper gastrointestinal imaging.

Enzyme replacement therapy in two patients with classic Fabry disease from the same family tree: Two case reports.

Background: The pathophysiology of Fabry disease (FD)-induced progressive vital organ damage is irreversible. Disease progression can be delayed using enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). In patients with classic FD, sporadic accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (GL-3) in the heart and kidney begins ; however, until childhood, GL-3 accumulation is mild and reversible and can be restored by ERT.

Clinical benefit of subsequent chemotherapy after drug-induced interstitial lung disease in pancreatic cancer patients: a multicenter retrospective study from Japan.

Purpose: Drug-induced interstitial lung disease (ILD) is not a rare adverse event in the current chemotherapy strategy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Thus, we aimed to find the optimal management for PDAC patients with a history of ILD induced by a gemcitabine-based regimen.

Objectives: Methotrexate (MTX) is associated with extensive side effects, including myelosuppression, interstitial pneumonia, and infection. It is, therefore, critical to establish whether its administration is required after achieving remission with tocilizumab (TCZ) and MTX combination therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this multicenter, observational, cohort study was to evaluate the feasibility of MTX discontinuation for the safety of these patients.

Four cases of pseudomyxoma peritonei with ovarian tumors at our hospital.

We describe four cases of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) that were diagnosed and treated at our hospital.Case 1: A 26-year-old woman with a large multicystic ovarian tumor and massive ascites was diagnosed with PMP originating from a borderline mucinous ovarian tumor. She underwent fertility-preserving staging laparotomy and was treated with three courses of intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

Hepatic failure in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis treated with methotrexate: A case report.

Introduction: Chronic liver damage from methotrexate (MTX) is not uncommon, and fatal outcome is rare. We experienced a case of hepatic failure leading to death. We considered the cause of death through this case and proposed a method to prevent the progression of this liver injury.

A case of polypoid endometriosis mimicking advanced ovarian carcinoma with rapid growth, invasion, and dissemination.

Polypoid endometriosis is a rare form of endometriosis characterized by polypoid masses that histologically often resemble endometrial polyps. We report a case of rapidly progressing polypoid endometriosis that was preoperatively assumed to be advanced ovarian cancer. A 46-year-old woman, para 0, underwent laparoscopic myomectomy and left adnexectomy for uterine fibroids and a left ovarian endometrial cyst after administration of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist for 4 months.

Incidence, risk factors, and clinical impact of major bleeding in hospitalized patients with COVID-19: a sub-analysis of the CLOT-COVID Study.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) causes extensive coagulopathy and a potential benefit of anticoagulation therapy has been documented for prevention of thromboembolic events. Bleeding events has also been reported as a notable complication; whereas, the incidence, risks, and clinical impact of bleeding remain unclear.

Method: The CLOT-COVID Study was a nationwide, retrospective, multicenter cohort study on consecutive hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Japan between April 2021 and September 2021.

Apolipoprotein C3 and necrotic core volume are correlated but also associated with future cardiovascular events.

We aimed to clarify the relationship between apolipoprotein C3 (apo-C3) and the vascular composition of lesion plaque in stable coronary disease (SCD) before percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and to investigate major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) within 4 years. Data of 98 consecutive patients with SCD who underwent PCI between November 1, 2012, and March 10, 2015, were analyzed. Laboratory and virtual histology-intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS) examinations of culprit lesions were conducted before PCI.

Efficacy of a novel large-cell Niti-S stent with a slim delivery system for hilar biliary obstruction: a preliminary study.

Objectives: The large-cell Niti-S stent is useful for multiple stenting in patients with malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO). Recently, a novel uncovered self-expandable metallic stent (USEMS) (a Niti-S large-cell SR slim delivery system) was developed. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of this USEMS slim delivery system in MHBO patients.

Rare case of angiomyolipoma of the larynx.

We report a rare case of angiomyolipoma (AML) of the larynx. AML belongs to the family of perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas). We review the literature on PEComas and describe differences in immunohistochemical findings between renal AML and AML in the head and neck region.

Prognostic significance of OX40 lymphocytes in tumor stroma of surgically resected small-cell lung cancer.

OX40 (CD134) is a co-stimulatory molecule mostly expressed on activated T lymphocytes. Previous reports have shown that OX40 can be an immuno-oncology target and a clinical biomarker for cancers of various organs. In this study, we collected formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor samples from 124 patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) who had undergone surgery.

Effect of Switching to Brexpiprazole on Plasma Homovanillic Acid Levels and Antipsychotic-Related Side Effects in Patients with Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder.

Objective: Although switching antipsychotics is a common strategy in the treatment of schizophrenia, caution is needed because of the risk of worsening of psychosis, particularly when switching to a dopamine D2 partial agonist. Homovanillic acid (HVA), a dopamine metabolite, is thought to be a possible indicator of the response to antipsychotics. We examined the effects of switching to brexpiprazole monotherapy from other antipsychotics on plasma HVA levels and side effects during maintenance treatment of schizophrenia.
