Background: The risks of bleeding and cardiovascular events in high bleeding risk (HBR) Japanese patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) while receiving single-antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) remains unknown. We aimed to evaluate the frequency of bleeding and cardiovascular events associated with prasugrel monotherapy after short-term dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in Japanese HBR patients after PCI.
Methods and results: The PENDULUM mono study was a multicenter, non-interventional, prospective registry (n=1,173).

Objectives: We aimed to examine the effect of unilateral inhibition of the medullary dorsal swallowing networks on the activities of swallowing-related cranial motor nerves and swallowing interneurons.
Methods: In 25 juvenile rats, we recorded bilateral vagal nerve activity (VNA) as well as unilateral phrenic and hypoglossal activity (HNA) during fictive swallowing elicited by electrical stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve during control and following microinjection of the GABA agonist muscimol into the caudal dorsal medulla oblongata in a perfused brainstem preparation. In 20 animals, swallowing interneurons contralateral to the muscimol injection side were simultaneously recorded extracellularly and their firing rates were analyzed during swallowing.

: In the past, controlling the hormone-excess-state was the main determinant of survival in Functional-Neuroendocrine-Neoplasm-syndromes (F-NENs). This was difficult because the pharmacological-armamentarium available was limited. Recently, new therapeutic strategies have increased but it also generated controversies/uncertainties.

Purpose: Although catheter ablation is an effective therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF), risks remain and improved efficacy is desired. Stereotactic radiotherapy is a well-established therapy used to noninvasively treat malignancies with precision. We sought to evaluate stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation (STAR) as a therapeutic option for treating AF.

Materials And Methods: This study examined patients enrolled in the Zilver PTX Japan Post-Market Surveillance Study ( identifier NCT02254837), a prospective, multicenter registry of 904 symptomatic patients with 1082 femoropopliteal lesions treated with the DES at 95 institutions in Japan. Five-year outcomes, including mortality, stent radiography, freedom from target lesion revascularization (TLR), and clinical benefit, were evaluated for 177 patients (mean age 74.

Rotational atherectomy (RA) has been widely used for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to severely calcified lesions. As compared to other countries, RA in Japan has uniquely developed with the aid of greater usage of intravascular imaging devices such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) or optical coherence tomography (OCT). IVUS has been used to understand the guidewire bias and to decide appropriate burr sizes during RA, whereas OCT can also provide the thickness of calcification.

However, studies about the HPSD ablation during the posterior wall isolation, the Box isolation (BOXI), are limited. We evaluated the efficacy, feasibility, and safety of HPSD ablation during BOXI.

Background: Catheter ablation (CA) is an important strategy for managing atrial fibrillation (AF). However, long-term anticoagulation strategies and clinical outcomes following CA, including thromboembolism and bleeding, have not yet been elucidated.
Methods: We established a prospective registry, called the JACRE registry, for patients on rivaroxaban or warfarin administration who received CA for AF.

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is categorized by mutation frequency: high MSI (MSI-H), low MSI (MSI-L) and microsatellite stable (MSS). MSI-H tumors have a distinct immunogenic phenotype, with immunotherapies using checkpoint inhibitors already approved for the treatment of MSI-H gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GEA); this is not observed for MSI-L or MSS. Here, we tested the hypothesis that MSI-L tumors are also a distinct phenotype and potentially immunogenic.

Background: There is insufficient real-world data on the current status of Japanese patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) or its treatment and prevention with rivaroxaban.
Methods and results: In this multicenter, prospective, observational study conducted in Japan, 1,039 patients with acute symptomatic/asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) with or without DVT prescribed rivaroxaban were enrolled at 152 institutions and observed for a median of 21.3 months.

The better understanding of the biological behavior of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) organ manifestations and the increase in clinical experience warrant a revision of previously published guidelines. Duodenopancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasias (DP-NENs) are still the second most common manifestation in MEN1 and, besides NENs of the thymus, remain a leading cause of death. DP-NENs are thus of main interest in the effort to reevaluate recommendations for their diagnosis and treatment.

Although the test bolus tracking method is available as a predicting method of scan timing in the coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography, it is known that there is a problem of scan timing due to the use of a part of test bolus method. The diluted test bolus method was adopted for test bolus, and as a result of using in combination with the test bolus tracking method, it showed a higher contrast enhancement compared with the test bolus tracking method; a stable contrast enhancement with less variation in CT number was obtained. The CT number at the peak in the test scan and the CT number of the main scan showed a high correlation.

This study evaluated variations in the treatment of coronary artery disease according to time course of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.
Methods and results: The Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics performed serial surveys during the pandemic (in mid-April, late-April and mid-May 2020) with queries regarding the implementation of PCI.

A 54-year-old man with pancreatic head tumor had undergone pancreaticoduodenectomy and was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (P-NET) associated with sporadic multiple endocrine neoplasm type 1. Five years after the resection, P-NET recurred and liver metastases were observed. He was treated with a somatostatin analog.

On April 14, the Society of Swallowing and Dysphagia of Japan (SSDJ) proposed its position statement on dysphagia treatment considering the ongoing spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The main routes of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 are physical contact with infected persons and exposure to respiratory droplets. In cases of infection, the nasal cavity and nasopharynx have the highest viral load in the body.

We recorded membrane potentialp changes in 45 pharyngeal motoneurons (PMs) including 33 expiratory modulated and 12 nonrespiratory neurons during breathing, swallowing, and coughing in decerebrate paralyzed cats. Four types of membrane potential changes were observed during swallowing: ) depolarization during swallowing ( = 27), ) depolarization preceded by a brief (≤ 0.1 s) hyperpolarization ( = 4), ) longer term (> 0.
