Purpose: Curved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) has been developed for the treatment of acetabular dysplasia. While several studies have reported its good clinical results, the complications of CPO include delayed union and nonunion of the superior pubic ramus. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of delayed union of the pubis one year after CPO, and to determine the risk factors for this complication.

Both developmental and acquired stuttering are related to the function of the basal ganglia-thalamocortical loop, which includes the putamen. Here, we present a case of stuttering- and palilalia-like dysfluencies that manifested as an early symptom of multiple system atrophy-parkinsonian type (MSA-P) and bilateral atrophy of the putamen. The patient was a 72-year-old man with no history of developmental stuttering who presented with a stutter for consultation with our otorhinolaryngology department.

Purpose: To evaluate 2-year results of the Zilver PTX (Cook Medical, Bloomington, Indiana) drug-eluting stent (DES) for femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease (PAD) in patients with no continuous patent infrapopliteal runoff arteries compared with patients with ≥ 1 continuous patent runoff vessels.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with femoropopliteal PAD enrolled in the Zilver PTX Post-Market Surveillance Study in Japan was performed. There were no exclusion criteria.

Purpose Of Review: To review recent advances and controversies in all aspects of carcinoid-syndrome.
Recent Findings: Over the last few years there have been a number of advances in all aspects of carcinoid syndrome as well as new therapies. These include new studies on its epidemiology which demonstrate it is increasing in frequency; increasing insights into the pathogenesis of its various clinical manifestations and into its natural history: definition of prognostic factors; new methods to verify its presence; the development of new drugs to treat its various manifestations, both initially and in somatostatin-refractory cases; and an increased understanding of the pathogenesis, natural history and management of carcinoid heart disease.
Background: Pericardial effusion (PE) is one of the most frequent complications from catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). We assessed the prevalence and predictive factors of PE that require invasive treatment as an early complication of AF ablation.
Methods: The Japanese Heart Rhythm Society requested electrophysiology centers to register the relevant data of patients who underwent AF ablation during 6 months from 2011 to 2015.

Background: The JACRE-R Registry, in which 42 Japanese institutions participated, monitored the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban in catheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation (AF). In the present analysis, we sought to elucidate the effects and risks of heparin bridging and different patterns of interruption/resumption of rivaroxaban on complications of CA.
Methods and results: We administered rivaroxaban during the perioperative period and recorded the incidence of complications up to 30 days after CA.

Caudal Regression Syndrome (CRS) is a rare disorder which consists of abnormalities in the lumbosacral spine, rectum, urinary system and lower limbs. These abnormalities also include orthopaedic deformities, such as hip dislocation, knee-flexion contracture with popliteal webbing and talipes equinovarus. Because of the rarity of this condition, few medical personnel are aware of it.

Background: The association between cumulative metabolic syndrome (MS) factors and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) has been highlighted over the past two decades.
Aims: To clarify the relationship between cumulative MS factors and symptomatic KOA.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey involving 119 women aged 45-88 years who were scheduled to undergo knee surgery was conducted.

Objective: This study was performed to compare health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of gemcitabine plus S-1 (GS), S-1 alone and gemcitabine alone as first-line chemotherapy for locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer in the GEST (Gemcitabine and TS-1 Trial) study and to assess the impacts of adverse events and tumour response on HRQOL.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to receive gemcitabine alone (1000 mg/m weekly for 3 of 4 weeks), S-1 alone (80, 100 or 120 mg/day twice daily for 4 of 6 weeks) or GS (gemcitabine at 1000 mg/m weekly plus S-1 at 60, 80 or 100 mg/day twice daily for 2 of 3 weeks). HRQOL was assessed using the EuroQoL-5D (EQ-5D) questionnaire at baseline and weeks 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72.

Objective: The Japan Fracture Observational Study (JFOS), a prospective observational study, investigated the real-world effectiveness of daily teriparatide to reduce clinical fracture risk in osteoporotic patients.
Methods: In routine clinical practice, Japanese patients initiated on teriparatide 20 μg/day by subcutaneous injection were enrolled. The primary end-point was the rate of clinical fractures at 6-month intervals over 24 months.

Magnifying narrow-band imaging (M-NBI) is useful for the accurate diagnosis of early gastric cancer (EGC). However, acquiring skill at M-NBI diagnosis takes substantial effort. An Internet-based e-learning system to teach endoscopic diagnosis of EGC using M-NBI has been developed.

Background: To obtain a perspective of the current status of catheter ablation for the cure of atrial fibrillation, the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society conducted a nationwide survey: the Japanese Catheter Ablation Registry of Atrial Fibrillation. In this report, we aimed to evaluate the periprocedural use of direct oral anticoagulants with respect to thromboembolic or bleeding complications.
Methods: Using an online questionnaire, the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society requested electrophysiology centers in Japan to register the relevant data of patients who underwent atrial fibrillation ablation over selected five-months from 2011 to 2014.

Purpose: Favorable long-term outcomes of the Zilver PTX drug-eluting stent (DES) in femoropopliteal lesions have been demonstrated. Chronic renal failure (CRF) has been shown to be a risk factor for restenosis and decreased limb salvage. The results of the DES in patients with CRF have not previously been reported.

Occipital artery (OA) to the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) bypass is indispensable for the management of complex aneurysms of the PICA that cannot be reconstructed with surgical clipping or coil embolization. Although OA-PICA bypass is a comparatively standard procedure, the bypass is difficult to perform in some cases because of the location and situation of the PICA. We describe the usefulness of the unilateral trans-cerebellomedullary fissure (CMF) approach for OA-PICA bypass.
