Background: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy for completely endophytic renal tumors with the reported outcomes of conventional laparoscopic partial nephrectomy and investigate the transition of renal function after robot-assisted partial nephrectomy.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, multicenter, single-arm, open-label trial across 17 academic centers in Japan. Patients with endophytic renal tumors classified as cT1, cN0, cM0 were included and underwent robot-assisted partial nephrectomy.

To elucidate the seroprevalence and rate of asymptomatic infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Japanese children, serological analysis was performed using serum samples collected from March 2020 to February 2023. A total of 1493 serum samples were collected during the first study period (March 2020 to February 2021). None of the serum samples was positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibody.

A man in his 70s was admitted to an intensive care unit with severe COVID-19 and treated with dexamethasone and tocilizumab. After recovery from COVID-19, he developed bacteraemia and non-occlusive mesenteric ischaemia, with fatal outcome. He had been prescribed MIYAIRI 588 fine granules as probiotics for a month.

Heparin resistance (HR) is observed before cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), despite with normal antithrombin III (AT-III) levels. The relationships between preoperative AT-III activity and activated clotting time (ACT) after the first heparin dose should be clarified. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 818 patients who underwent CPB surgery, with the initial heparin of 300, 400, and 500 IU/kg, between 2017 and 2021.

Background: Few interventional studies of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) have been conducted to optimize indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) use in Japan.
Methods: The nurse-led, before-after study was conducted at a tertiary care center from June 2018 through May 2022. The intervention included 1) the provision of appropriate indications for IUC use, 2) prospective feedback to the primary care providers by ward nurses on unnecessary/inappropriate IUC use with two, separate interventional phases, the first involving intensive care units (ICU) only, the second involving ICU and general wards, and 3) proactive feedback by Infectious diseases physicians in the Infection Control department to the primary care providers regarding IUC discontinuation upon discharge from the ICU.

Subtotal colectomy is often performed on patients with synchronous colorectal cancer. However, compared with colorectal anastomosis, ileorectal anastomosis with subtotal colectomy is more likely to result in bowel dysfunction. The Deloyers procedure is useful in preserving bowel function in a patient with synchronous colorectal cancer.

Modification of the R1 and R2 side chain structures has been used as the main strategy to expand the spectrum of cephalosporins and impart resistance to hydrolysis by β-lactamases. These structural modifications also result in a wide range of plasma protein binding, especially with human serum albumin (HSA). Here, we determined the crystal structures of the HSA complexes with two clinically important cephalosporins, ceftriaxone and cefazolin, and evaluated the binding of cephalosporin to HSA by susceptibility testing and competitive binding assay.

Introduction: Several studies explored the association between thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) and the therapeutic efficacy of immunotherapy. However, the effect of TTF-1 on the therapeutic efficacy of programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor/chemoimmunotherapy in patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (non-Sq NSCLC) with a programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) tumor proportion score of 50% or more who are highly susceptible to immunotherapy remains unresolved. Therefore, we evaluated whether TTF-1 has a clinical impact on this population.

Preexisting cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a pivotal risk factor for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We investigated the longitudinal (over 1 year and 9 months) humoral and cellular responses to primary series and booster doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in patients with CVD. Twenty-six patients with CVD who received monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were enrolled in this study.

Objectives: The optimal indication and survival benefits of prophylactic urethrectomy (PU) during radical cystectomy remain unclear. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the impact of urethra-preserving surgery (UPS) on oncological outcome including its recurrence patterns, and to establish an optimal urethral management strategy with a novel UPS technique in the robotic era.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 281 male patients with bladder cancer who received radical cystectomy (RC) (115 with and 166 without PU) at our institutions between 2010 and 2023.

Aim: Adverse childhood experiences are potentially traumatic events with long-lasting effects on the health and well-being of patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is important to clarify which types of long-lasting autism-related symptoms are influenced by childhood experiences to design future intervention studies. However, few studies have examined the association between childhood experiences and autistic symptoms in large samples of adults with ASD and individuals with typical development (TD).

Objective: The risk factors for residual liver recurrence after resection of colorectal cancer liver metastases were analyzed separately for synchronous and metachronous metastases.
Methods: This retrospective study included 236 patients (139 with synchronous and 97 with metachronous lesions) who underwent initial surgery for colorectal cancer liver metastases from April 2010 to December 2021 at the Fujita Health University Hospital. We performed univariate and multivariate analyses of risk factors for recurrence based on clinical background.

Cell metabolism is a key regulator of human neocortex development and evolution. Several lines of evidence indicate that alterations in neural stem/progenitor cell (NPC) metabolism lead to abnormal brain development, particularly brain size-associated neurodevelopmental disorders, such as microcephaly. Abnormal NPC metabolism causes impaired cell proliferation and thus insufficient expansion of NPCs for neurogenesis.

Background: Lung transplantation (LTx) is a crucial therapeutic strategy for patients suffering from end-stage respiratory diseases, necessitating precise donor-recipient size matching to ensure optimal graft function. While standard allocation protocols rely on predicted lung capacity based on factors such as sex, age, and height, a subset of patients with respiratory diseases presents an additional challenge - thoracic or vertebral deformities. These deformities can complicate accurate volume predictions and may impact the success of lung transplantation.
